Something new comes in the mail and I feel driven, nay compelled to use it. Today brings two deliveries that just had to come together. First is a soap purchase I picked up purely on the recommendation of KY Dave. I mean, when he says I gotta get some, who am I to disagree? I’m not sure if the name of the company is Eleven or DFS, so I went with Eleven until I get back to the webpage to verify. This was a god purchase. Second, and probably best I got a New-to-me and most likely NOS Rubberset badger brush to Christen. It has a fishing fly lure encased in the handle and a quick decision was made that this was probably cooler to pick up than a Paladin for the near term. It’s a touch small, ( 18.5 mm) but it bloomed and spread out nicely after a couple of rounds with CBL’s Brush Cleaner.

The Hardware: The Old Style is a hair more aggressive than the blues and Lady Gillettes I’ve been messing around with lately. It is quite in the ballpark with the GameChanger.84. AS I mentioned, the Rubberset is a little small, and I don’t know how old it is, so I let it soak a little extra long just to make sure everything was hydrated enough. It would suck to start lathering and have all the bristles break off. Thankfully they didn’t and the bonus is that I was unable to detect any shedding and I was looking for that! Most important is that I got it and it will see some action and not sit on someone’s shelf. I doubt there are very many like it in circulation.

The Software: When Dave mentioned this fragrance was subtle, a light came on because we will soon be taking a long car trip with some friends and I was looking for something really low-key but pleasant. This one seems to fit that bill very very well. It is quite pleasant and when SWMBO gets home in an hour or so I’ll try it out on her! I think it’s probably one of the ones going on the cruise for close quarters. This soap is super slick and has excellent residuals. Bowl lathering was quite easy and voluminous even with this tiny brush.

The Shave: This turned out to be a very good to excellent shave placing in at DFS+ to BBS- and will certainly dry down to a solid BBS after three passes with a bit of touch up on the residual. Alum and witch hazel had no feedback and the fragrance of the aftershave was quite nice. It is indeed a keeper. I chose the Limited release package using the logic that perhaps with a small batch, more attention may have been paid throughout the process so I could be sure to get to try the best the artisan has to offer. We will see how that logic bears out, but is’t worked for me a couple times.

Easy there Tiger! Let her get through the door first!

Yes, Eleven is the same of the company. DFS is one of those "other" forums which that scent was made for.

Glad you liked it Rich. The scent is subtle compared to the Cognac and Cuban Cigars but is certainly noticeable and the quality is better than their older formula under the other name. Nice set up ! Love the brush.

Thanks guys! I misread the model. It’s a 15s. They apparently made a good number of them, but I can’t find production dates.

I must admit to being a little distracted for todays shave. I am worried about SafetyCat and had a very difficult day yesterday with the Vets. I keep hearing the same tune when I talk to them. Yes he is very sick, he has to take his medicine, get him to eat, That will be (insert fee here) They aren't helping much with how to accomplish any of the problems. I am thinking this must be a dog lovers world, or cats are held in lower esteem on the 'give a rat's behind' scale. Its tearing me up. I suspect due to lack of nutrition, he is forgetting where the food bowl is, and how to get to the litter box. He was trying to drink from the faucet this morning, a favorite thing for him to do. Then he moved over to his designated sink, peed in it and then laid down in the sink.

The Hardware: What can I say? It's a 'Jectah shave! And the 74 is working just fine.

The Software: CBL soaps in general are as good a soap as I can think of to use on a daily basis. This one is no exception. Excellent slickness and cushion and one less think to worry about. Thanks Chris!

The Shave: Pretty good shave. I'm feelin a little low so didn't even feel myself up. I'm sure I'm a solid DFS. I can robo-shave with this razor and soap combination. I apologize for being a little less than upbeat. I'll try harder.

Don't worry Rich, we'll get someone over there to feel you up ASAP!

From what I hear, animals have a better sense than humans of when it's time to just slow down and let things run their course.

If you REALLY want to determine how much energy and life-interest Safety Cat Mittens has, try giving him his pills as a suppository.

Hang in there Rich, Mittens has your back.

Rich so sorry what you are dealing with. Have you tried a second opinion from a different vet? Maybe find one that specializes with cats? I don't know I am at a loss. I remember when my last cat which lived to 19 started downhill, it was difficult. But thankfully we found a good vet that prolonged her life from 17-19. We then knew it was time, and I trusted that vet when she said that it was time.

Thanks guys! We started him on yet another pill today, but stopping the big ol horse pill. Hopefully this appetite stimulant will get his strength up.

I. Have been neglectful of my journal. I find it difficult to collect my thoughts still, but figure this is small practice in getting the brain rolling again. I’m a bit ashamed to admit the passing of SafetyCat affected me on a deeper level than the passing of my mother just a couple of years ago. I believe it has to do with the suddenness of the event and the intimacy of the relationship my cat and I shared. It’s been about a month and I figure I should try to begin functioning again. Yet the remaining Safety crew do not automatically take their positions yet when shavetime comes, which is something I’ll be working on.

We got our cabin assignments for our cruise yesterday and I was glad we weren’t placed close to the bilge where surely I would be assigned to shovel coal into the boilers while we are under way. They must have found someone else to volunteer for that duty. So the Wives have been excitedly booking activities and looking at web pages and getting excited about what to wear and stuff. I am looking forward to the cruise, and to the diversion from being in this hole of my own making. It is my hope that a good time traveling and some time in the sea air will break me out of this rut.

So... We are taking a trolly tour of Boston where we can get on and off at our leisure, but we must be mindful we are supposed to be back on the ship by 1700, despite the fact the ship will be docked til 2300. I look forward to seeing the Constitution, which should be in port while we are there. Of course we’ll see some old buildings. Perhaps wander through a couple of tourist malls and eat some local cuisine. I like that part. My job on this cruise is to eat as much interesting things and do food tourist stuff, I am going non-Keto for 9 days. Then will resume when we return. I figure I’ll have gained some 12 pounds by then. Unless I continuously spike myself with prune juice so as to speed things through before they get a chance to attach.

We will tour Acadia when we get to Bar Harbor (Ba’ Haba) where the highlight will be a lobster roll. Then we haven’t anything solidly scheduled until Halifax, NS where we will take a Duck boat ride about the city and the bay. And, of course eager Tails and Poutine.

The ship promises to be loaded with diversions from Karaoke nights and Trivia, to Stage shows and movies. Alas, I cannot drink so shall not partake of the many interesting drinks the bars are able to concoct. But maybe SWMBO will get real drunk and I’ll get luck and take some great pics to blackmail her with later as needed.

I’ll be taking probably three sample soaps, my travel tech and likely the Batman razor and plan on several shipboard shaves. Following Dave’s pro-tip to shower and stuff in the locker room, where there will be more room. If he’s with me that week, Flat Spider will be coming along for the adventure. It’s starting to look like this may be the case! Unanimous consent that I keep the box an additional several days for this. If it arrives in time, I may also take the pimp razor too.
