Rich's Journal: Adventures with Life and Sharp things

I thought that most garage door openers came with a power-outage bypass. In our old place, there was a pull handle installed in the door that you could unlock if the power went out, allowing the door to disengage from the opener's drive chain.

There is a bypass, but we couldn’t get to it. We are working on a contingency plan.

That's like the old joke. I used to be able to reach this high....but now I can only reach this high. While you put you arm all the way up and then only partially up.

So this is what would have happened to Indy in Raiders of the Lost Ark if he hasn’t made it through the stone gate during his escape from the idol temple...

Comments:
Stepping out of the comfort zone a bit today with a traditional Kamisori shave. I haven't used this razor a lot so am still a little shaky with it. The asymmetric grind of this razor is a little bit intimidating so requires a bit more concentration. After the den was given the go ahead by Buster the SafetyCat, I think I am up to the challenge. After all other than being a different shape and needing a different grip, all shaving with a Kami is completely different than using a standard straight or DE/SE. No worries. here we go.
This is my first day when I would normally be working on getting ready for PT and am instead doing most of those exercises on my own here at home. I have to remind myself more often to go slowly even though the Doctor said it was ok to go at full speed. It is still a little sore.

The Hardware: I gave this razor a few strokes on the Jnat and stropped it before coming to the den so it should be ready. 50/75 linen and leather. Feeling the 'stick' on the stones is a sensation that still eludes me. I am not putting out a DE as a safety for this shave. I feel pretty confident I can do all passes this time.

The Software: Decanting Proraso into a hand soap container was a wise move. I can be pretty consistent with how much product I am using. Pre-treating my face with the Trans-Galactic face cube also provided a good deal of slickness.

The Shave: Three passes and I'm happy to get to CCS+ I'll need more practice to get the strokes right with this kind of razor. Trouble spots (rather area) is on the neck where I am pretty sure I never got a good stroke in the whole shave. It is a little shaggy and I will need to go back after lunch and hit it again to fix the itch.

Spring blossoms from my Kwanzen cherry tree are not as dense as in the past. probably due to the extreme wetness of the winter.

Grabbing a quick shave before headed out to see Avengers End Game.

The Hardware: The General is always here on standby and is a natural choice for this kind of shave. I can be quick with a bigger swath per stroke and no be as concerned of unintentional fluid loss.

The Software: In keeping with the hurried pace of this shave, but still wanting to keep it a good one, what to reach for but the good ol’ GTB? I don’t face Lather very often, but figure I should do it some to prepare for upcoming vacation shaves.

The Shave: As expected, the General is close and comfortable, and oh that GTB fragrance! I think I actually go ahead and shave without thinking so much about it.

This was in keeping with the Tribute theme of the week. This was my Dad's razor, and I presume his, or perhaps one of my uncle's brush. Also received a mail-call of two Lady Gillettes in pretty great condition, that I did not get in trouble for at all! My quest to wean Mama off of those darned carts is moving forward and she says she will try it on a shin first. I didn't tell her I have a blue tip coming just in case the LG isn't mild enough. She is commandeering my Sue Moore Rose soap (no problem there) and is awfully fond of my Cherry Blossom and Bamboo. (We may have to Rochambeau over that one.

The Hardware: I refreshed the edge of this razor on a freshly lapped ILR and it worked a treat! I was inspired by Dr Matt and broke mine out to try it after it languished for a while. The Badger knot shed a bit, but it was a sincerely epic cheapie. It's not glued in at all and is held in by friction by the rubber. Should be easy to re-knot it at a later date with a better knot.

The Software: Iron Throne is a wonderful scent with an amazing cooling sensation! I enjoyed it very much. It also continues with CBL's continued tradition of amazing performance. The intergalactic preshave cube was almost enough to shave with. I may yet do that again.

The Shave: The thick shank of the Henckell made for some slippage while gripping, and stropping, but that was easily overcome. Three passes plus a spot cleanup for a DFS that dried down to DFS+

I can't tell you how relieved I am that he no longer puts the edge of his straights on metal containers and other things when posing them for pics.

To prove to my wife the razor I got for her is not dangerous, I shaved with it today. Also experimenting with the Shave Cube to see how it works as a shave soap. I had suspected as much and even tried it once before, but today I only applied what would be my custom to use as a pre-shave.

The Hardware: I'm not sure where these razors lie in the Gillette scale of mildness, but this one sure is quite mild. I would expect this for a razor that would be used to shave
legs and pits and whatnot. I liken it to a very long handled SuperSpeed. But it's relation to the Silver or Blue is in question. The Voshkod blades smoothness is above reproach and provides a great shave regardless of the platform. Of course the Brush is still in there pitching!

The Software: I was quite pleasantly surprised with the slickness of the cube's lather and the cooling of the menthol. It did one and a half great passes and I did a single swipe to liven up the slickness to finish the shave.

The Shave: Three passes and a good amount of buffing polished up my face to a good surface. It is a little bit too mild for my tastes and I ended up with a DFS+, but I really had to work for it on my trouble spots. I suspect this is due largely to the inherent mildness of the razor. I think it will do great for the wife unit on her legs, and for me if I should ever need a super-mild razor like on a hangover day.
