Rich's Journal: Adventures with Life and Sharp things

16 Feb 19 Days of Roses and Vegetal

Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (8)
Razor: Razor Rock .84 Game Changer
Soap: 2015 B&B Soap for Hope
A/S: Thayers Aloe - Da 'Veg
Brush: RazoRock 400 Synthetic

I've been eyeing this soap container for a while. It's bigger than most in my stash and takes up a lot of room. But last time I tried a Rose soap I had a reaction. Is three years enough for EO's to calm down? Let's find out.

Fragrance is mild in strength off the dry puck and moderate on blooming. This is a moderately soft soap that is pulling away from the sides of the container a bit. Evidence it's drying down some. It does lather quite nicely with the Super Lather spritz solution. Good Slickness, OK residual. Rinses very clean.

The GC is holding quite well with the GSB after 8 uses. No signs of dullness so far. Three passes for my DFS.

Major Rich! You look super stoked Breaking out the Veg! You sir are a brave man for even trying that stuff lol. In all seriousness it looks like you have been "Chosen" as that bottle looks like its been used a time or 2.

Is that B&B soap the Rose & Currents one made by TTFFC? If so many people seem to have had burning issues with that particular scent. Picked up a tub from a trade a while back and he had issues with it as well. Sometimes (as you mentioned) the fragrance oils can mellow over time, or your skin can change sensitivity from day to day.

Anyways, great stuff. Sounds like you had a decent shave.

That soap (and I believe it is the Rose & Currents) is the reason I think I react to any rose scented soap. I found out that this is not true. I do have a reaction to some rose scented soaps...but not all. That soap though lit my face up like I have never experienced before. And yes...a lot of people had the same reaction. It's a shame...I really liked the scent of it. I heard through the grapevine (never substantiated though...) that particular soap didn't cure long enough and was released sooner than it should. Not sure if this is the case or not...but if it was...I would think that over time the en fuego would settle down!

18 Feb 19 Lather Quandry

Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (8)
Razor: Razor Rock .84 Game Changer
Soap: SV Opuntia
A/S: Thayers Aloe - SV Opuntia
Brush: Sterling Boar

Today's shave, although excellent, was marred by lathering problems. Because I changed several variables, I can't isolate the problem. This will require some additional study. I lathered with the Boar in a hot scuttle that I've not used in a while and got substandard, foamy lather. Thankfully, SV is an excellent soap regardless of the lather and was slick enough for me to get a good shave in three passes.

Subsequent to the shave, I reloaded with the Boar, and test lathered with a Badger, and a Synthetic using identical conditions; cool water, superlather solution, and the Captains choice lathering bowl. (Grammer Fans can marvel at that sentence) I was able to achieve pretty excellent results. Mourn for the waste of perfectly good soap. I suspect perhaps my hot water is perhaps too hot, although that wasn't a problem in the past. Puzzling.

Got this in the mail today. Does anyone else think I look like I should be picking coffee beans in the misty mountains of Columbia with my burro?

Look at that kid, ready to take on the world!

Where you headed Rich? Or just updating?

Updating and preparing for a cruise using that coupon we got from the time-share pitch we endured in Florida.
