11 Feb Silver Snow Super Lather

Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (5)
Razor: Razor Rock .84 Game Changer
Soap: Eucris
A/S: Rich's Mongoose
Brush: Oz Silver Snow White Synthetic

Having another go with super lathering. Ive not had good success with Eucris for lathering so using a remnant am experimenting using the super lathering compound of water, glycerine, and vinegar, in distilled water. It is my hope that this counters my hard water and increases the latherability of soaps.
The soap is loaded with a damp brush on a dry puck and then spritzed with the solution in the lather bowl. To my great delight, I was rewarded with a thick, slick lather the likes I've never seen from this soap! I really like the fragrance and it is a great shower soap for this, but it does leave a bit of a film in my hard water. When lathered with the superlather compound it seems to rinse quite more cleanly. I presume this will also help retard build-up on the brush as well. I intend to use CBL Brush cleaner with this solution to clean and refresh the rest of my brushes.

The shave was quite good and the GSB seems to be getting smoother as I use it. three passes and I am pretty much set at DFS where I expect. I very much like the GameChanger and see it has a permanent place in the rotation.
I contacted Italian Barber and asked if there were any .64 plates left and was told there are a couple of blems that he can send. So I have one on it's way. Might as well get the whole system for experimentation at a later time.

Hey, looks like this journal is back to being a regular thing now. Good to see you back here as well as the videos.

Great shave report Rich. Looks like you’re shaking things up with some newfound progress!

13 Feb GTB Wednesday

Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (6)
Razor: Razor Rock .84 Game Changer
Soap: Groomatorium CF GTB
A/S: GTB
Brush: Omega Boar

Having seen a lot of Ghost Town going about here on the Cadre, I had my own jones to fuel and broke it out myself.

The monsoon like rains paused for the day and the pumps are at work keeping the basement dry. I am positive that if the pumping continues at this rate, the whole hill behind me is going to deflate and collapse from all that I have removed. That bright thing is even making an appearance in the sky which has a peculiar blue color (surely this can't be a good thing) I bravely turn to make with the shave

I am starting to wonder about this brush. Actually about boar brushes in general. I am starting to experience difficulty raising a satisfactory lather with them on a consistent basis. Particularly this one. I will run it through the CBL Cleaning regimen and try a test lather with it later. It took a couple trips back to the puck to get a good lather today, but the resulting shave was great. The GameChanger is proving it's mettle and is earning it's place in the lineup with no problems. I did raise a tiny weeper on my neck, but not a worrysome thing. The Silver Blue is settled in and smoothed out so that I don't think I want to try another razor for a bit for fear of ruining a good thing. So, three passes and no problems. DFS+

I just recently picked up a Stirling boar brush and have had issues with mine also. It sheds like crazy and just doesn’t seem to whip up a decent lather.

That's crazy. GTB is soft enough any brush should easily pick up enough for a good lather. Maybe your brush needs new batteries?

It’s pretty mysterious, I’ve not had this before. I’ll try again after cleaning the brush.

15 Feb 19 Monday Mongoose

Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (7)
Razor: Razor Rock .84 Game Changer
Soap: Fine Snake Bite
A/S: Thayers Aloe - Mongoose 1.1
Brush: Sorrentino R2D2

Another great day for shavin'! I cleaned the Omega Boar using CBL Brush Cleaner and rinsed it thoroughly, but the test lather afterward was disappointing. I am wondering if brushes have a service life and what happens when brushes approach that time? I will clean it again and let it soak in Vinegar to really deep clean it. The Sorrentino is always up to the game of making a great lather. Because this cake of Snake Bite is a couple years old, it has no detectable fragrance off the puck, so I placed a drop of WS-23 in the lather to see what that does. Apparently that small of a dose isn't enough. We'll figure that out presently.

Three passes relatively without incident. Typical DFS result. I like predictableness!

Congrats to all the winners of the 6 Man Aqua Velva game. It seems to be a fun game that was pretty well received. I'll have to work on how to close out the game a little.

I'll be curious how many of my soaps I end up tossing because they lose their scent. I imagine it will be way more than actually get used up.

Sounds like a good shave to me Rich! Is the Snakebite soaps as cold as the aftershave?

I remember the fragrance, but not the sensation. It might be a good candidate for addition of fragrance, if I knew how to do it without killing the soap.

I have a sample of the Fine Snakebite AS, it mostly just smells like menthol and a hint of that medicinal aroma like Proraso Green but barely detectable.
