I Simply had to try:
Straight Shave #310
Razor: 6/8 Dorko Inox 172
Brush: Sorrentino Limited edition TSC Tuxedo
Soap: Sterling Iced Pineapple
Scuttle: Crown King
AS/EdT: Sterling Iced Pineapple
Sound track: None
The Stuff: This Dorko has a crack on the beauty side right at the rivet. I'm thinking it can be repaired with the right stuff. My speculation is complete disassembly and fitting a brass liner on that side. I'm pretty sure the medallions and fancy stuff can't be transferred. I did some freshening of the edge, but with the sketchy scale I didn't do much. The Sorrentino needs no introduction. It's performance and overall design puts it among the pantheon of my favorite brushes. Finally, of course, Iced Pineapple. Nuff' said.
The Shave: I was feeling pretty desperate for a shave and it had to be a straight shave. I reasoned my middle finger isn't as involved in the grip on a Straight as with a DE. In practice however, I found some of my usual strokes were more difficult and awkward but still doable. The Dorko is sufficiently sharp to do the job, but is certainly not what I would consider having a stellar edge yet. After repairs, either by me or should I farm the repairs to more practiced hands, this razor will need some ministrations on the stone to make it the performer it's moniker implies. I made an attempt to E-W across my chin and ended up with a Kirk Douglas style blip. Aside from that little hiccup, I was able to get a CCS in three passes. Sterling A/S finishes the shave and feel satisfied that I can work in a straight shave on occasion.
Comments: I certainly put in a good effort for this shave, but know that DE's and Jectah's are in my future for a little while longer. Since I discontinued PT on my hand the pain is significantly reduced, but mobility is as well. I am encouraged by my being able to struggle through a long blade shave to scratch that itch as needed.
