Rich's Journal: Adventures with Life and Sharp things

Got a page behind but caught up now. Back on the 6th you showed a photo of some probiotics and it reminded me of what my doc said. He said the gut flora we carry with us is somewhat unique person to person because it is ultimately a result of our own diet. He went on to say that if you have eaten a very sugar and starch heavy diet the gut flora are conditioned to “want” that same diet and they will actually influence your cravings should you reduce your intake. So, not only do our brains desire the sugar but the gut flora does too. He said the flora took years to develop in the kind and composition you have so changing the composition by changing diet alone would take years too. By taking “pre” and “pro” biotic supplements you are able to force change to occure faster. Providedyour diet is different while taking the supplements you gut flora will change composition over the course of several months...eventually resulting in a mojority of flora that doesn’t crave sugar but craves what ever you altered diet is. He said more and more hard evidence is pointing toward the pre/pro biotic being a significant health consideration. He even went on to say the ‘treatment’ of gut flora is being considered more and more important to achieving the best medical outcomes....then he began to describe the potential for gut flora transplants for severely ill people, boy am I happy I am not severely ill.

I can't prove anything that Chris has said...but I have to agree with him. I have been using different types of probiotic...mostly inulin...and I believe that has helped me a lot. I have read some medical and nutritional studies that call our gut bacteria the body's "second brain." It's that important!

I have noticed I don’t really even miss most of the foods that are outside the diet. Excepting rice, which has been a staple to my diet all my life. I think when I ease into maintenance mode I may have some occasionally. Meanwhile, I have a 50 pound bag sitting in the pantry.

Yeah, rice is a bummer. For me, only because I love sushi. I’ve made some sushi with alternate methods, and it’s just not the same.

People who give stuff away are nutjobs, but at least he was smart enough not to give away good things like, for example, soap.

Rich Tries a Kami :

Straight Shave #311
Razor: Azuma Kamisori - Bic Sensitive single blade disposable.
Soap: Pre de Provence
Brush: Serrintino R2D2 Badger
Scuttle: Crown King
AS/EdT: Da'Veg!
Sound track: None

The Stuff:
Kami is hot off the stones and sizzling sharp on arm hair.. will that translate to the face? See the video to find out!

Rich

Well done, Rich. I didn't worry overly much about the "rule" of always having the lettering out when using a kamisori. On the left side of my face, the stamps went "in", with the blade pointed toward my ear and the handle towards my nose, no matter which side of my face I was shaving.

My razor, my face, my blood = my rules override the others'. LOL

WOW! What a tremendous PIF! I hear that Viper dude that plays a lot of chess is a really good guy! That Kami looks amazing!

Kami's are probably the one shaving vehicle I have NOT explored yet. I find them quite intimidating. One day.....

Cool Water Snake Bite :

Straight Shave #313
Razor: 5/8 Case Red Imp.
Soap: Fine Snake Bite
Brush: Razorock 400 Synthetic
Scuttle: Crown King
AS/EdT: Rich's Mongoose!
Sound track: None

The Stuff:
This razor is quite a singer! Today is very hot but it's a humid and miserable heat. Need a cool water shave and mucho menthol. Deployed Fire hose strop from Sam prior to 50/50. All other components are proven

Comments: 3 passes to a DFS. No safety Cats on site. They were in the den before the suction cup holding the iPad to the mirror failed sending them in a mad scurry! First try of a lavalier mic so I don't need to artificially increase volume post production. It works, but the cord gets in the way.

Rich

Hear of the Snakebite AS, didn’t realize there was a soap too! Nice!

Is Mongoose your own blend of AS?

Is Mongoose your own blend of AS?

Yes. It was my first mixture. I like menthol A LOT and Mongoose is a saturated solution that will make a grown man cry! I've watered it down a bit, but it still is an apex menthol hit.

Your cat has incredible markings, I’ve never seen safety cats full front facing profile. Very cool.
