Rich's Journal: Adventures with Life and Sharp things

Yessir. I will be going Delta Echo for a while. I hope to get systems back on-line before long so that I may be back to long blades, which are my first love.

Understood, but you certainly aren't slumming it with that razor as a back-up.

Congrats on your weight loss with keto! I love the keto way of eating and am down about 35 lbs since March.

Keep at it. And if you are ever struggling, let Don or I know.... we’re right there with you!

Fat Bottom Razors make my Shavin' World Go 'Round:
DE Shave Straight Shave #309
Razor:Gillette Tech / Gillette Black (7?)
Fat handle courtesy of Don The Dangerous
Soap: Noble Otter: Proraso Cypress Vetyver
Scuttle: Crown King 12oz.
Strop: Mitchel Mogal #824 Horsehide
Brush: Razorock 400 Tribute Synthetic
AS/EdT: Fine Fresh Vetiver
Sound track: None

The Stuff:
I received a care package from Don a couple of days ago. I had though he was going to send one fat handle, but he sent two and a sample of soap I am looking forward to trying. I have the Proraso Cream in a soap pump bottle and a single pump turns out to be the right amount of product for one Scuttle of lather with this brush. The Indian made Black Gillette blade shows no signs of giving up the ghost yet.

The Shave: Once again the cats have failed to staff their post. Perhaps giving them some time off has affected their conviction to duty. I find the fat and large 400 handle is easy to hold on to and allowed me to create a generous lather from a single pump. Don's handle also allowed me to take a modified grip to try some of the different rudiment strokes I saw in one of Dave's latest vlog entries. The result of better control of the blade and slick lather made this an easy coast in three passes to DFS. Fine Vetiver gets a "nice" from SWMBO! Being able to hold on with index and ring fingers and have good positive traction to control the head made all the difference in the world. Thanks Don!

Comments: Laying off the PT for a couple of days seems to have made some difference in hand strength. I am not crushing walnuts yet, but at least I am turning door knobs and typing here at space normal speed. I've not tried driving the Miata yet but I have high hopes for the next sunny day. Help from my brethren has given me hope to shave at least for another month, then I have arranged a once a week shave with a local barber to keep me from being bearded if necessary. I think it might be neat to have a friend record one of these shaves as he is one of the last master barbers left in town.

Glad the handle is working out for you Rich! I would love to see a video of that shave!

That's awesome that Don was able to help you with the equipment. Personally I'm a bit concerned about the cats and their dereliction of duty.

Noble Otter for the Win:
DE Shave Straight Shave #309
Razor:Gillette Tech / Gillette Black (8+)
Fat handle courtesy of Don The Dangerous
Soap: Noble Otter: RAWR
Scuttle: Crown King
AS/EdT: N.O.RAWR
Sound track: None

The Stuff:
Last shave was good enough to try again except try again with the N.O soap. This may be the set-up I use if the doctor follows through with his threats. I do like the way the razor feels in my hand, although it looks like Zippy the Pinhead with that tiny little head on the heavy handle. I am also really liking the heft of this 400 clone. Is the real deal solid Aluminum?

The Shave: While I got a cat to do a cursory look at the worksite and the equipment, none would stay for the shave. I think perhaps they have lost their conditioning. I'll have to do "mock shaves" to re-introduce the behavior into their routine. Because the set-up is pretty much the same as last time, I'm attaching a bit of lather for your enjoyment. The Black Ninja is tuggy and starting to create little nicks so it's time to Bin the little guy. 8 or so shaves are quite good for a DE I think. I think the lather may have been a bit more airy than usual as I was really going to town on it and it did noticeably firm up with bigger bubbles. I cut my losses on the dying blade at two passes and CCS+.

Comments: A busy couple of days at the Casa. Feeling a bit guilty as I have SWMBO out with the weed whacker going around the house. Should be my job but I'm grounded from that kind of stuff. Our lawn-boy hasn't been getting up close to the house and have developed a bit of a wildlife habitat around the perimeter. She will cut 'em down and I'll mix up a deadly cocktail to keep 'em at bay. Back in the day, the old man would spray used motor oil mixed with a bit of diesel to kill down the weeds, but that got vetoed right as the words were leaving my mouth. So, Double strength Roundup is nearly as good. Then I'll have the perimeter graveled and plants in big pots placed around. I may even put synthetic flowers in them. (lol) Now to find someone to dig and deliver the stone.

Rich, Glad you got a close comfortable shave and sorry about the difficulties. My #4 Rubberset is hollow and I believe all of them are. Not a lot of heft to them and I have never been able to compare it to a newer one. Have a good day !!

Those are some serious bubbles in that lather Rich! Glad the handle is working out for you. I think you and I have the same philosophy when it comes to gardening...unfortunately, I think our wives do too. Tell which ever safety cat that is duty to quit shirking his or her responsibilities. We don't need any mishaps on the shave!

SOD Journal Entry Addendum: Jeez I completely forgot to talk about the NO fragrance. It is a Light woody, fruity frag probably meant for younger men than I, but I like it nonetheless. It is a bit short-lived, but very nice as I've never tried the real deal.

Very nice shave Rich. Glad you were able to find a setup you can use and Don is awesome for lending a hand so to speak. Tell the cats going awol is not acceptable and is punishable by lack of feeding and sleeping until proper etiquette can be resumed.
