Rich's Journal: Adventures with Life and Sharp things

Sorry to hear about the struggles. Hoping something works out so you can continue entertaining the safety cats.

Snake and Mongoose: A tale of desperation
Straight Shave #309
Razor: Feather AC SS / Kai Microtouch(?)
Soap: Fine Snakebite
Scuttle: Crown King 12oz.
Strop: Mitchel Mogal #824 Horsehide
Brush: Sterling Boar
AS/EdT: Rich's Mongoose Ultra Menthol
Sound track: Sha-Na-Na 'Blue Moon'

The Stuff:
These are all proven components and I NEED them to be on their game today. It's been over a week without a proper shave and I am starting to itch. I briefly considered growing a beard but quickly decided I should at least try to get as many shaves in as I can before surgery and then reassess the situation. What blade better for mass deforestation that the Feather with pretty much any of the blades in the arsenal. As a precaution, I shanghaied all the cats into the den and closed the door for maximum dermal protection. SnakeBite is the soap of choice mostly because we've been binge watching Harry Potter the last couple of nights and I noticed the Logo on the underside of the cake. America!

The Shave: SafetyCat First Class Mittens was nonplussed by the lock-down, but Little Noel was a little disturbed by it and was not shy about telling me about it. She doesn't like closed doors in general. With extreme care the first pass virtually wiped all the lengthy growth from the mug. Subsequent passes went pretty well. I am still trying to work out a grip that allows for a malfunctioning middle finger. I ended up holding the razor kind of like a popsicle and did all passes straight N-S and S-N. I made an effort for the jawline, but gave that up as a lost cause. I believe I can get the job done with a DE. But I longed for an open blade and this was in my view an emergency shave. If I had been close, I'd have gone to visit Dave and the boys. I did, however manage a CCS.

Comments: I've not been posting much as using the keyboard requires (for me) touch typing and I'm pretty sure I will wear out the backspace key with knocking out all the errant and extraneous letters the right paw keeps inserting into the text, and the left paw just hurts. I would only wish this on a special chosen few that my obsessive personality won't let go of. I am shopping bidets as we speak on the Amazon Prime Sale but getting quite a push back from SWMBO. I think it would be kind of neat to have my nether's blow-dried. I had her laughing so hard last night she snorted.

PMSL....that last bit to your journal entry just about made me spit up. LMAO!!!

Get well soon Rich...hopefully the digits will begin functioning normally again soon!

There is the SOTD that I have missed! Glad to see your wit and humor intact! Your entry today made me smile!

I’m sure we all hope a purchase was made and your nethers will be perfectly dried.

Getting electricity to the appliance may be a bit of a feat. At first flush, it looks like a drip dry affair. ??

Rich nice shave and hope things are going well.

I have also considered a bidet.

Great shave and read, Rich. I also almost did a spit-take at the last line lol.

Clearly I'm not as refined as you guys. I kept reading it pronounced in my head as a "rid it" thinking what's that and whats the blow dry all about........got it now

Great to hear from you Rich!

Glad you were able to get a shave in and I pray that the doctors can fix you up!

The Stuff:
I bought this soap on a whim from a posting on a Social Media site after noting it was a tribute to Abercrombie and Fitch's Fierce, and that it was a short run of the product. Since SWMBO kind of liked Fierce last she sniffed it on me, the quest for a frag she really likes initiated the automatic trigger pulling system. I haven't decided much on it, we shall see when she gets home if she likes it. That is, if the scent is still there when she gets home. Paw problems continue and I have switched to DE's for a while until I can get more power to the digits. This is purely a Murphy Repellent decision given I now have the precision hand movement of a Panda right now. The Gillette Rubie is in trials and this is it's second outing. I recall it as being quite nice last time.

The Shave: No Cats to be found anywhere on my floor this morning, they must be meeting in the basement. I forge on alone. The Soap is only a little fussy on it's moisture balance to get a good lather and once there it is very stable and slick. Most notable is it has tremendous residual slickness. I could almost have done a second pass on the residuals alone, but then where would be the fun in that? A simple N-S, S-N with cleanup got me to DFS. Fragrance: it's nice. I can't put my palm on where I've smelled this before, but there is something familiar about it. It is clean and masculine, kind of citrusy woodsy. Light in it's intensity. I am not sure how long the scent will last.

Comments: Continued hand strength problems not related to carpal tunnel are putting a cramp in my style. I had thought if I increased the exercises the Physical Therapist recommended would help, but they seem to be exacerbating the problem. I will stop them altogether today and see what happens, worst case is I'll still have noodles for fingers and I'm already there. I feel like a panda with an extended dew claw. Wondering how I'm going to install that Bidet. Got a message from the hand doctor pushing my appointment back to the end of August so I have some time to see if my lessez faire strategy works. On another front, SWMBO and I started our KETO diets and are starting to see some pretty OK results. I check my weight often and there is a real scatter-graph from that, but if just the first thing in the morning after-pee weight is the most telling, I am down 21 pounds. I can't editorialize on the spouse unit's progress as she is struggling with her carb addiction far worse than me. I find my gaze lingering on that last 12 pack of Coke in the garage, but find it is now way too sweet to my tastes and water is best. I am glad Bacon is not off the menu!

All caught up, Rich. I'm sorry to hear that the digits are just not healing up. But glad that you were able to get in a couple of shaves - and take some photos (very nice!).

Great shave Rich! Good call to stick to DEs for a bit while on recovery and sans safety cats. Glad the soap is working for you!

Rich! Happy to hear from you again. Sounds like the NO is a winner! I love the stuff and am now wanting to get some.

Awesome work on keto! 21 pounds is nothing to snivel at! Keep up the awesome work!
