Rich's Journal: Adventures with Life and Sharp things

Rich, not sure how I’ve fallen so far behind, but all caught up now.

A belated congrats on #300!

Congratulations on 300 Rich, and I'm glad the vehicular problems are going to soon be behind you. You have had some good shaves along the way as well.

Genco Wedge Whisker Whacker

Straight Shave #304

Razor: 5/8 Genco Wedge
Soap: Sterling Iced Pineapple
Scuttle: Crown King 12oz.
Strop: Mitchel Mogal #824 Horsehide
Brush: Sterling boar
AS/EdT: Sterling
Sound track: Israel,Kamakawawo’ole :Hanahane Kho Aka

The Stuff: another Genco today, this on is a Wedge I’ve been struggling to get ‘the’ edge on. It’s a whisker slayer, but something feels just not right about it. Balancing the uncertainty is a perennial favorite spring favorite and Sterling brush to go with it. Iced Pineapple is a great favorite of mine and it engenders confidence.

The Shave: Buster comes in and inspects the equipment before the Shave and wanders into the tub playing with the curtains. I’m sure the random pouncin* sounds ar3 a warning to old man Murphy. Perhaps it’s just the Wedge profile that gives me trouble. I had a similar Wedge in a gold duck I let go a couple years ago. I hope it’s still working for whoever won it. The shave is fine, but lacks that ‘oomph’ that says you be getting the business here. It was NOS and a bit scabby when I got it and gave it new shoes. Three passes and I give myself a DFS which I think could be better once I get more familiar with a 5/8 Wedge.

Comments: I've been reading but minimally typing pending my next visit to th3 orthopedic doctor. The hand I injured in February clearly did not heal properly and has been quite painful to use. I admit to a bit of trepidation at the prospect to the repairs ahead. In addition, my other hand has my middle finger stuck in the curled position (trigger finger) which is not painful, but quite inconvenient. This will be quite the visit..

Nice shave and read Rich!
Hope you and your doctor can get you fixed without too much discomfort!

Love those old advertisements! I had a chance to go see Brother IZ when I was in Hawaii during the 90s. For such a big man...his voice was like velvet. And let me tell you...he sounded better in person than he does on CD! Such a shame the man passed away in his prime.

I’m enjoying the reach back adverts and such, you are doing quite a job finding these things.

right hand middle finger stuck in curled position? Did you flip the wrong person the bird?
my left hand pinkie is curled, I did some damage to the tendons when I fell playing duck duck goose with my cub scouts...not painful but odd. Strange thing is my mom had he same thing and I remember being interested in how it happened and why it was still bent up. I learn3d from her not to try to straighten it by placing it under a book and having the fat girl stand on it.

I burned my hand on a floor furnace as a child. They did surgery on the middle finger to allow it to straighten when I was 14. Now that my warranty is up, I've developed this annoying thing of it getting stuck all curled up. I have an appliance on the finger while the injection of whatever magic stuff they put in there does its stuff. Then there is the physical therapy on the left hand to break up a mess-o-scar tissue to help regain movement in the index finger. Today was my first day of PT and it was painful, but only excruciatingly so. I am proud that I did not utter any colorful euphamisms. Although I did call upon the Almighty at one point. Six weeks of this and I have high hopes of being able to move that finger properly again, or take up the ukulele and sell my six strings. Anyone interested in a 4 digit serial number Ovation?

Sounds like not such a fun time Rich...hopefully the PT begins to pay off sooner than later.
