Ha! You are not wrong. But I think the rest of the country thinks we eat nothing but deep dish pizza. In reality, I grew up eating "tavern style" (thin crust cut into squares, also fairly certain a Chicago/Midwest thing) with MUCH more frequency. Not to say we didn't have Lou's or Giordano's, but when my parents ordered pizza, I'd say 80 to 90% of the time it was tavern. Still the case for my wife and I as well.

But yes. Between pizza and Italian beef, Chicagoans have no shortage of local staples to argue over!

Start the day with one of your all time favorite scents!

Razor: Blackland Vector
Blade: Feather Pro Guard Artist Club
Brush: Yaqi Atlantis
Lather: Stirling Soap Weekend in Malibu
Aftershave: Stirling Soap Weekend in Malibu Balm
Additional Care:
Stirling Soap Weekend in Malibu Balm
Stirling Soap Weekend in Malibu EdT

I believe last year was the first year of this coming out - and it was a hit in my house. I think the Stirling website describes it best…..

“One of our summer scents that's just hard to place but makes you feel good. Like you're cruising down Route 1 through Malibu in a cherry red convertible with the top down.”

The Vector tops off the great shave - it is definitely an easy razor to use and so efficient!

Shout out to a former Penn State wrestler who won gold at the Olympics today. Though I never wrestled competitively - growing up in North Central PA - and a hop skip and a jump from the PSU main campus - wrestling was their revered sport.

Today is going to be a busy day at work - so I’ll be offline most of the day- which means @NurseDave Bingo will call my numbers - Murphy’s Law of Bingo!

Have a great day!

Oh the things us Cali boys missed, but at least we had great fresh vegetables.

Finland is a bit of a wasteland when it comes to food, other than some fantastic meatballs that I order at any opportunity. Sadly the best place for them near me closed at turned into a vegetarian restaurant.

Now that you’ve had some time with it, how aggressive dose the Muramasa go? Beyond or just equal to the Nodachi?

I thought the Swedes locked the market with meatballs !

For me it’s been providing both with the Masamune did as well as the Nodachi - it has 5 adjustable settings. I have to say - even on the highest setting (which I rarely do on most razors) - it has been really efficient without adding blade feel which I get on most aggressive razors.

I think the lack of blade feel has been the point of contention, it sounds good to me though. Got a feeling it’s going on my Christmas list. I love being able to change settings mid shave.

Happy Friday everyone!

Razor: REX Supply Co Ambassador
Blade: Derby Premium
Brush: Yaqi Green Handle
Lather: Victory Shaving Co Heaven Can Wait
Aftershave: Lucky Tiger Aftershave & Face Tonic
Additional Care:Ginger’s Garden Salty Dog

This was one nice BBS today! it’s funny how as we learn and our technique gets better - we can revisit Shave items that we may have written off in the past and they become some of the best things we use. When I first returned to wet shaving back in 2016, my Utopia shavette Razor that I bought came with derby premium blades. I hacked myself right proper! it had to be the blades right?

Fast forward to 2020 - I acquired this REX Ambassador- and by all accounts - it is quite an aggressive razor - I keep it at a 3 to 2.5 setting and even at the 2.5 it can be rough. Even my Bolzanos couldn’t tame it. On a whim - I put a Derby Premium in and Shazam! Smooth sailing ever since. I’m sure my technique has improved over the years (I sure hope so at least) - and that is a factor - but for this razor - the Derbies are a perfect pairing.

I really enjoyed @NurseDave unboxing video with his daughter - and I think I’ll check out the ‘Home Depot’ shave soap! Just a fun video to watch!

Planning on taking Aidan to an interactive music festival today and possibly indoor go cart racing - though we have a pool nearby with a lazy river - so maybe that‘s the ticket?

Have a fantastic day today!

Fantastic way to end artisan & hobbyist appreciation week!

Razor: Karve Christopher Bradley
Blade: Gillette Nacet
Brush: RazoRock Big Bruce
Lather: CBL Soap Hello
Aftershave: CBL Soap Hello Tonic

I bought the soap because the label is from one of my favorite movies and that @Luecke3262 was part of the collaboration (plus as they say - CBL soap/AS ain't bad neither (my proper English in me in cringing). But nothing is better than going from ' hey - they notes seem ok, I think I'll like it - to actually receiving in and just being wow'd by the scent! Fantastic job! I really like how nicely the lavender and the citrus play well with this. I thought my D&G Pour Homme pairs well with the Lavender in this and the Tobacco adds some depth (not that the soap & AS needed an extra push - it is a fantastic scent).

The Music Festival was cool yesterday - Aidan participated in a drum circle. Found out that we needed to make a reservation for the go carts (thank goodness I checked before driving down) - so we'll do that Monday. So this weekend is lazy river time and of course I'm sure there will be water balloons involved as well.

Have a great weekend! Oh, let's finish off with a couple of my favorite quotes in the movie from my man Inigo Montoya!

Trying something new today…

1628426652782.jpeg

Razor: Tedalus Essence
Blade: Gillette Nacet
Brush: Yaqi Purple Handle
Lather: Lodrino God Shave The Queen
Aftershave: Ginger’s Garden Iced MintTea

Good Sunday morning everyone! almost everything new today, and even with the razor which I’ve used before, I’m using a DE blade, which is the first time for me in this razor.

I acquired the Lodrino soap after reading about it from a post from @EMG06 and a comment from @mrdoug. Of the three soaps available at Pasteur’s - this one appealed to me the most - first - the scent notes and the label and name made me smile. The scent did not disappoint- I really like it - though I cannot pick out individual notes - it is very well blended. I liken it to CBL Tucson Lime - similar in that the blend notes all play well together to give a great unified scent - but this maybe a tad sweeter, but not overbearing - just a smidge. I can tell it has citrus (which as anyone that knows me - ka-ching!), then the green, florals, and amber round it out. Scent notes in the description: Bergamot, orange, and lemon with a touch of salvia (I originally thought this said saliva lol), resting on a delicate green teal and a jaggery floral background of jasmine, pink and soft amber.

The soap is on the softer side - but not so much that you have to load from a bowl - you can load from the tub. It is quick to lather - doesn’t require a ton of water (another bonus IMI).

The AS is a bespoke from Ginger’s Garden - love mint Iced tea so why not in an aftershave for what will be a hot day?

Tried my Tedalus with a 1/2 Nacet blade today. It was a milder shave than when using an artist club blade - the blade loads towards the front. I did have a couple of nicks due to my technique - when I was going to quickly and not accounting for less of an edge as compared to an AC blade which extends the length of the razor. I will use DEs again with the razor again - though I do prefer the AC blades as I find them easier with shavettes. I am debating on ever using an injector blade which this razor also allows for - as my skin gets irritated with those blades - I had soled my Supply Co razor because of this - which was sort of a bummer because I loved the look and it is a great new engineered type of razor. It wasn’t for lack of trying - used about every brand of injector blade out there and all three base plates- just wasn’t for me.

Looking forward to a chill day today! Have a good one Cadre!

Enjoy the day Brian!

Congrats on the Bingo win…post up pics once stuff arrives! I’m curious what Paladin you got!!!
