California Sunrise is one of my all time top scents, just love it. Need to use it more often.

Hey, can I ask, how do you get those beautiful background colors in your SOTD pics? It's a great effect, really brings the photos to life.

Thanks my friend for the compliment! I bought a cheap light box from Amazon - basically their either fabric or plastic 5 sided Cubs with a foil like surface on the inside to reflect the led lights. I originally got it because my kids went through an Instagram phase lol (Glad that didn’t last). They usually come with 5 or six colors of backgrounds. Prices vary - but a decent one can be $15-30.

Nice shave Brian!

I see Mont Blanc frags come up from time to time…how do you like the one(s) you have?
I apologize my friend - I missed this! I have 3 Mont Blanc - Explorer, Individuel, and Starwalker. I think the do an excellent job and best of all very affordable. Starwalker is more of a shower gel type scent - so it basically goes with everything. I think I like Explorer the best and it gets compared to Creed Aventus. Individuel is my fall office scent - not that you couldn’t do it all year round but in the dummer for me - it’s citrus, citrus, citrus for me!

Dear Diary -

I keep forgetting to add my journal items.

I am truly enjoying Artisan & Hobbyist week! Love watching all that is out there and available to all of us Cadre! I am falling in love with my new Tatara Muramasa (almost to the point that I don't miss the Masamune Nodachi which is a fantastic razor). Today's shave was the perfect balance of citrus with menthol - a great summer shave.

Things are relatively chill - getting ready for the next school year. Our state is doing pretty well in regards to the vaccine with over 77% of the population over 18 vaccinated and 65% of the total population having received at least one shot, and 59% of the total population fully vaccinated (6th in the country). The state isn't mandating masks yet, they are weighing the impacts of the Delta variant - but thankfully the school districts are mandating them - I am glad they are deciding to lean to the side of caution. My local Costco ran out of masks - and I am on my last box - so the kids and I bought some colorful design ones just to add some color to things.

Trying to decide what to do for vacation before school starts. Want to save up some money - so we're probably just going to take a few day trips. My son Jack said he was craving a cheese steak - so I think I'll accommodate him with a trip to Philly! He jokingly said he was considering trying Geno's, but as he looked at me he said, "I know, I know......We're a Pat's Steak family) lol! I will tolerate him being a Yankees fan - but to not have loyalty to your cheese steak house - well I think that would justify a shunning 😂🤣 (though he loves to remind me of the story that when 'Grandpa took you to your first Philly's game you went to a dive that only had a slot in the window - and you said that was the best." Which is true and if I could find that place again - I would make an exception to Pats.

Have a great day my friends!

The loyalty of cheese steaks reminds me of the loyalty of Italian beefs here in Chicagoland. You have plenty of people who love Al's but those of us in our right mind know that Johnnie's is by far the superior shack. And of course you can get generic ones all over the City. But nothing compares to a dipped beef with hot peppers and lemon ice at Johnnie's!

I thought your food of choice was Deep Dish pizza

Ha! You are not wrong. But I think the rest of the country thinks we eat nothing but deep dish pizza. In reality, I grew up eating "tavern style" (thin crust cut into squares, also fairly certain a Chicago/Midwest thing) with MUCH more frequency. Not to say we didn't have Lou's or Giordano's, but when my parents ordered pizza, I'd say 80 to 90% of the time it was tavern. Still the case for my wife and I as well.

But yes. Between pizza and Italian beef, Chicagoans have no shortage of local staples to argue over!
