So OK, so it’s not Arizona, Desert Cali, or San Antonio hot, but we East Coasters get the added bonus of the sauna effect as well. Even my weather app agrees with me… taken before noon…and on the rise…

So my shave is dedicated to cooling off……

Razor: Blackland Vector
Blade: Feather Pro Guard Artist Club
Brush: Yaqi Lucky Dice
Lather: Wet the Face Lemon Ice
Aftershave: Oleo Soapworks Pucker

This is definitely refreshing and the cooling agents do their work. The scent strength is perfect. I enjoy the ease of my Vector - it was a simple and efficient shave today.

Today I’m debating on whether to put a pool that extends from my couch to the backyard and wraps around the whole yard. There;s gotta be a company that builds those theme park lazy rivers for personal use 😂.

kids are all back to normal so back to work!

have a fantastic day!

I was only able to visit the East Coast once, loooong ago. It took a day or two to adjust to the temp/humidity, I and another family member actually had to stay in bed the first day after arrival because our bodies were so sapped.

I‘m not sure if it’s that it’s getting hotter and more humid or that I’m old 😂

I am having a fantastic day! I will share it down in the blog.

I missed out on posting yesterday - I was waiting in the mail for one of the soaps and then it arrived late in the evening - and I got sidetracked by the Olympic swimming!

I am on a Lime kick for some reason (I am saving one of my favorite lime soaps for next week's artisan appreciation) - I can't seem to get enough of it. This soap and aftershave combo is, to me, the closest realistic scent in this genre. It blows me away - I know there are a lot out there (I want to try both Royall Lymes and GFT Extract of Limes) - but for what I have in my den- this is among the best. So this was last night's shave - Gold Medal

Razor: Tedalus Essence
Blade: Kai Captain Titan Mild Pro Touch MG
Brush: PAA The Peregrino
Lather: Maggard Razors Limes and Bergamot
Aftershave: Maggard Razors Limes and Bergamot
Additional Care:
L'Artisan Parfumeur Batucada EdT

I am really liking the Tedalus. I still haven't tried any other style of blades with it but Artist Club, but next week I will go with some DEs. Just easy to handle - and the right weight for my liking. The fragrance is a take on the Brazilian national drink - the Batucada. While it is its own thing - I would liken it to something between a traditional margarita and a gin in tonic. I always say any fragrance is unisex - people like what they like. This particular fragrance (I bought one of the OGs bottles) is now marketed as unisex, but since it has been gaining more appeal on the men's side, they have rebottled into a gray bottle. Same fragrance. I love the smell - it is perfect for a hot, hot summer day.

Onto today's shave - going with another summer boozy scent - a bespoke made for me by Ginger's Garden - the Dark and Stormy. Simple notes - but some of my favorites - rum, ginger, and lime. Irena did such a fantastic job. Get the boozy drink feel but not smelling like a bar - these three simple notes combined are so very refreshing!

Razor: Smart-Helix Apollo
Blade: Wizamet Iridium Super Extra Stainless
Brush: Yaqi Mysterious Space
Lather: Ginger’s Garden Dark & Stormy
Aftershave: Ginger’s Garden Dark & Stormy

I love the shave stick "format" - easy to apply and work up a lather and convenient especially for travel. The Smart-Helix Apollo is a beautifully engineered art piece in my opinion - care was taken into every part - from the packaging to the razor itself. This is the heavy version - so it works similar to a Rockwell to let you choose between blade gaps/exposure. Truly a pampering experience.

Now onto the what is some of the best news ever for me. I have 4 children, one is autistic, and I have been battling his mother in the courts for his care. Not to get too into details, but his mother would not show up for therapies, school IEPs, etc. But would show up to court - and battling the courts in Maryland are uphill battles for fathers. I have done everything in my power to engage her with Aidan. Changed appointment times to be on days that she has him, involve her in all medical and therapy decisions. But she has always been a no show. Yet that did not matter (until today) - did not seem to matter with the judge. Now that my autistic son has turned 18 - and he is not capable of living on his own - there are lots of things that need to be considered - outside of educational, therapy, and medical - for instance social security. Living arrangements, etc.

Well today, I was just awarded sole and exclusive decision making authority for Aidan. This opens so many possibilities for him, and his care! I am blessed and wanted to share that today.

Dude, that is awesome. Totally sucks when it seems like no matter what is filed and said in court, it can go in one gavel and out the other. Sounds like today you can put that past you and plan for the future. Now, what kinda shave gear you going to get for Aidan? :D

lol - Already started on him my friend. He's got a Leaf Twig razor - and drum roll please.......his favorite soap is CBL Grape Soda!

Following for the lime experience, I love lime, and oddly have none.
Thanks for exposing me to the Smart Helix, and you know, big fan here.

Huge congratulations with your son, I understand how these battles can be.

Thank you my friend! And We're now Helix Brothers!

Wow Brian! I’m so happy for you and Aiden! Hopefully that affords you some peace now in that area of life.

Congratulations man!

Razor: Tatara Muramasa
Blade: Gillette 7 O’Clock SharpEdge
Brush: RazoRock Noir Plissoft
Lather: Wholly Kaw Fern Concerto
Aftershave: Wholly Kaw Fern Concerto
Additional Care:
Christian Dior Eau Sauvage EdT

Yesterday was such a phenomenal day, and the good news I received eclipsed anything I have gotten out of my new acquisition.

Last night I received the Tatara Muramasa razor an adjustable, stainless steel razor from a company out of Portugal. This is the other half of why I sold half my razor collection. I will do a write up after artisan and hobbyist appreciation week.

My shave was sweet - Wholly Kaw Fern Concerto is based on one of my all favorite fragrances - Eau Sauvage (man, our shaving forefathers got it right)! The scent is described as a citrus aromatic - I think this skirts the line of being a Chypre. I would classify The soap and AS are mentholated - making it a wonderful way to start what should be a hot summer day.

I know whatever the fam and I do today will include water whether it be in the version of a pool or water balloons!

Shout out to my my fellow Marylanders / DC area who displayed such fantastic sportsmanship this week (and are bringing home some medals as well): Katy Ledecky (swimming), Katie Zaferes (Triathlon), Taylor Knibb (Triathlon), and Torri Huske (swimming).

Have a wonderful day!

Good news, on top of good news!

I'll be following your impressions of the Muramasa, it's such a cool concept. But the big question seems to be did they get the adjustment band right?

I’ll definitely put this one through the ringer - I’ve only tried it on setting 3 so far - which is the same gap/exposure of the Masamune Nodachi I had previously. just looking increases and decreases of the exposure and gap playing around with the dial there are definitely differences. the adjustment doesn’t Have click in settings so it is similar to the REX Ambassador in that technically it would have unlimited settings. I’m excited to give this a whirl!

Razor: Blackland Vector
Blade: Kai Captain Titan Mild Pro Touch MG
Brush: Yaqi Mysterious Space
Lather: CBL Soap Orion California Sunrise
Aftershave: CBL Soap Orion Tonic California Sunrise
Additional Care:
CBL Soap Orion Apothecary
Mont Blanc Starwalker

I am so glad that Artisan and Hobbyist Appreciation Week started on Sunday! That way I could take my time and savor the shave.

The CBL Orion Soap (with California Sunrise Scent) is one of the few soaps that I bowl lather. This is because I love getting those wafts of fragrance that hit you in a subtle yet distinctive way. California Sunrise is so aptly named - it does invoke of me memories of when I did live in California and visited the Oxnard area with the vast fields of various blooming flowers and produce. This is the perfect “Sunday Brunch” kind of scent - the marigolds subtly grab your attention, then the orange brandy takes over (citrus boozy- I’m in!), finally the tonka bean, tobacco, and vanilla round it out giving it depth. Well done! Just a pleasant all around scent experience that tethered with a fantastic performing base. The post shave oil and after shave tonic do make you feel that - I’ve just been shaved at a barbershop kind of pampered.

Everyone have a fantastic day!
