Quijote's search for BBS

Nice shave Don. On the bee hive, I'm of two minds. I know how much work goes into that, which is somewhat substantial. But, I've seen the results when it's done well, on a small scale. My Dad's friend has/had a couple of small hives in his back yard he kept and would get gallons of honey yearly out of them. He had a homemade bee suit, and never got stung when harvesting the honeycombs. Interesting for sure...

Nice shave Don, sans the seepage.

Do you live in a rural area? The neighbors might have something to say about a bee hive or two.

I'd love to have a bee hive. A couple of my coworkers have them. One of them lost his hive last year to mites. I told him if he wanted to start over and keep it on my property, he could (it was on someone else's property before).

A personal source of honey would be pretty cool. But the stings and all make spending $15 at the farmer's market worth it.
Nice shave.

You should get the hive. (As long as you don't mind picking up the slack... Or perhaps it could be a shared father/son bonding thing?) The world needs more bees.
I love honey as much as the next guy, but being allergic to bee stings really prevents me from thinking about getting a hive. Nice shave today also!

Great catching up, Don! Nice shaves and good reading.

Thanks everyone. I am considering getting a hive in the future, but I know we don't have time to keep up with it right now. During the week, our time at home involves feeding the kids, getting them ready for bed, and then rushing to get done what needs to be done around the house after 9PM before we go to bed. When the kids become more self sufficient, then we will consider it.

Not that I'm in the position to ever have one, but now I'm curious to find out how much labor there is in keeping up a hive. I just assumed you put it out there with a Queen and some workers and monitor for when it gets full and you need to harvest.

I got interested and it appears the "Crazy Russian Hacker" guy on youtube keeps bees. He is Hysterical.

I have a 28mm and I can't see ever going any larger than that....

This is what inspired me to use the monster Rudy Vey yesterday!

OK, didn't get a chance to post yesterday, so this is a 2 in 1.

RazoRock German 37 - Gillette 7 O'Clock Green (1)
Stirling Synthetic
Stirling Naked and Smooth
LT VC / Barbasol Pacific Rush

I decided to try out the new to me slant. I have never used a razor with a stainless handle before and was amazed at the weight. It felt good though. I decided to use the Green because it is a very versatile blade in my experience. My first impression after the first stroke is that it was a very mild shaver. I didn't feel the blade at all. Then I looked down and was amazed at the amount of whiskers that were in the lather. I ended up going 3 passes and ended up with a BBS+. This was a great shave. I finished it off with the Lucky Tiger salve and some Pacific Rush was what this hot day was asking for.

RazoRock German 37 - Gillette 7 O'Clock Green (2)
Sorrentino Tuxedo
Cella
LT VC / Fine Italian Citrus

Yesterday was so good, I decided to play it again. The length of my whiskers this morning were shorter than any second day I have had with a DE. I think this may be my new go to in the DE world. The efficiency of it without having a harsh feel is amazing. I also tried a slightly different technique for lathering and it paid off in spades. The lather consistency was better than normal with Cella. I may have to try this new technique for other soaps as well. I decided to try just 2 passes to see how well it would do. I didn't make it to BBS, but it was easily DFS+.

I got an email stating that Chatillon Lux is releasing their next seasonal release tomorrow, Colonia Balsamica. It is one of the ones that I have been waiting to try because it is supposed to be Colonia with a grassy note added. I will be purchasing this one.

A la Mancha, Arabella has her American Heritage Girls awards ceremony tonight. She is going to be receiving many new badges tonight. I think Tammy said that she will be getting around a dozen badges and around ten service stars. Should be a lot of fun. Will make for a hectic night though. I have to leave work to go to Elijah's practice, get him out a few minutes early, then rush to the ceremony.

Have a great day everyone, thanks for reading.

If Chatillon Lux is releasing a new scent, does that mean someone is releasing a new soap?

Great couple of shaves, Don! Sounds like you are one of the chosen to have good luck with slant razors!

I've been eyeballing the new CL release and corresponding DG soap. Not sure if I'm going to pull the trigger on this one however. There's another scent being released tomorrow as well, Yuzu/Rose/Patchouli...

Great pair of shaves. I am glad that the RR37 is working well for you. I am also a fan of the 7O'Clock Green blades.

Congrats to Arabella on the achievements!

Straight Shave #52
Keen Kutter K11
Graydog 2 band
Prorasso SB Cypress and Vetyver
LT VC / Prorasso SB Cypress and Vetyver ASB

Today I wanted to change up my straight a little bit, so I went with the Keen Kutter. This thing feels tiny in my hands after getting used to the Waterville. It still gave a great shave though. The Prorasso did great once lathered by the Graydog. And after 2 passes, I ended up feeling great with a DFS. I have never really been one to classify scents into seasons, but today I feel very "Springy."

I have decided that I am going to end up tackling the repinning of the Waterville myself. But, I want a little experience with getting the pin to mushroom correctly, so I am also going to redo the scales of my other 2 razors first. I have never been a fan of the scales the previous owner put on and this will be great experience.

A la Mancha, we ended up skipping Elijah's baseball practice because it would have been just too chaotic. Arabella's award ceremony went great last night. She ended up getting 17 badges, a service award, and was supposed to get 12 service stars, but there was a clerical error and only received 2 of them. The group leader said she would get the rest to her. We did have to leave just a little early though because she was starting to get a migraine. It was a lot of fun what we were there for though and we are very proud of her. I think the only kids in her age group that earned more badges were the daughters of group leaders.

Thanks for reading everyone!

Great shave Don!

Big congrats to your girl! That’s a heaping accomplishment!

Great shave Don!

When you go to repin the razor, the best advice I can give you is take your time, get a small jewelers hammer and you'll need a smooth metal surface, I use this setup:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0073VBSXC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0013UD43Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I also purchased a 5/64" and 9/64" solid carbide drill bits and had the machinist at work drill a couple through holes and a couple of blind holes in the metal block. I use the through hole when de-pinning a razor and the blind hole to put the pin in when I first start pinning the opposite side.

Wow, congratulations to your daughter
Thank you Dave.
Great shave. I hope that re-pinning your razors goes well.
Thanks Doug.

Thanks for the advice Craig. Luckily, being the son of a machinist, I already have all the tools available to me that I will need.
