Quijote's search for BBS

Waterville
Sorrentino Tuxedo
Cella
LT VC / Clubman

I did get to use the Waterville today. I also decided to try my hand at face lathering again today. I haven't done this in a long time. I got great results, but I also slung water and soap around more than normal. I went for 2 passes am wound up with a high class DFS. I am not sure I am going to make it to the bottom of this tub. Maybe I can just combine the tub Cella to this tub of brick Cella and pretend that I finished something off.

A la Mancha, I taught at church this morning, but we are now just hanging out at home. 2/3 of the animals haven't warmed up to the FIL yet. The cat is hiding in the bedroom and the Great Dane keeps sniffing him them barking at him. I am currently hanging out with the cat to give him some attention.

2 passes and DFS works!

Other than the all the animals not warming up, how is the visit going so far?

Nice read, Don. I usually shoot for a two pass DFS, so absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Keep going with the tub of Cella. Load it hard and eventually you will get to the bottom. How long have you been using it so far?

Thanks everyone!

The Cella has only been a couple of weeks of every other day. I think the problem is that it just isn't one of my favorites. It is good, just not great.

The visit is going ok. The only real issues are that if I do not agree with one of his opinions and want to discuss it to see why he believes that, I am automatically arguing with him. I learned this in the past, and to keep the peace, I just bite my tongue and move on. The other thing is that we asked him probably a half dozen times if he wants us to make anything in particular to eat trying to be good hosts. Well, he always said, I am easy, I will eat whatever is put in front of me except for raw fish. That is not what happens in practice though. Just as an example, Tammy went to make him eggs yesterday morning and instead of just saying he wanted them over medium, scrambled or some other way, he spent 5 minutes telling her exactly how he wants them. It is like that for everything we made so far. But, the kids are having a great time and there is peace in the house. That is what is important. Plus, I am earning a lot of bonus points with the LOTH. As they say, all is well that ends well.

Everready Round Guard Shovelhead - GEM Personna (8)
Made Rite 1000 w/ 22mm Maggard 2 band
Lisa's Natural Bay Rum
LT VC / Captains Choice Lime

Today, I just wasn't feeling the straight. I feel like I am in a rut. I don't know if it is just because we have a house guest or what. But I could not get excited about anything today. I grabbed the Shovelhead because it is a guaranteed great shave. I also wanted to try face lathering again and wanted to try something other than a synthetic at it because that is basically my whole experience at it. The face lathering went very well, the 2 band felt great against the skin. I did still drop a few drops of lather on the counter, but less than I did with the synthetic. It just releases the water more slowly than the synthetic did. Maybe I should start with a drier brush, will have to work on that. When the GEM is running over the skin and making no noise, you know you have a good shave. That thing doesn't sing, it screams. But on the 3rd pass, it was whisper quiet, so, I didn't even have to feel my face, I knew before the rinse. I was BBS. And oh, does it feel so good! This lime is an awesome scent, but like a lot of lime scents it is fleeting. Here I am 3 hours after I got done shaving, and I can't even tell I put on aftershave. I think it has been said that the lime essential oil is one that disappears rather quickly.

A la Mancha, I already expressed what is going on with the father-in-law. Not much else going on at the house this week. Glad to be at work. Have a great day everyone!

Great shave and read Don!

Those bonus points wit the LOTH are very valuable! Although the exchange rate seems to be somewhat skewed.

Ah... the shaving rut. I hit it usually in the fall. The best way to get over it, is to really change things up. Grab that soap in the back of the drawer that you haven't used in awhile. Talk to someone new about this style of shaving... perhaps the father in law?

Great shave. Congrats on the easy BBS.

I hope things get easier with the FIL. I hope your shaving rut is a short one.

True, we shall see once he leaves what they are worth.

It is more than a shaving rut, it is one in general. I think I am just thrown off with him around.

No worries, it will all work out.

Injector - Eversharp (6)
Stirling Synthetic 24mm
Wilkinson Sword Soap
LT VC / Pinaud Lilac Vegetal (THE VEG!)

Well, today had 2 new to me items, the Wilkinson Sword soap and THE VEG! Since the soap got used first, I will review it first. I received this via a PIF and I have had some reservations about using it based on the varied reviews. I got this open and gave it a big sniff. It smelled very familiar, and very soapy. It took me a while, but I think I know what it smells like, Irish Spring bath soap. It is definitely one of the major soap producers, but I am about 90% sure that is the right one. It has just been so long since I smelled it. Not a scent that I mind at all. Since this is my first time I used it, I bloomed it in some warm water for a few minutes, dumped the excess water into my bowl, then proceeded to load for 40 seconds. With a well shaken brush, I built the lather. I only had to add a few more drops and got a great lather. As I was brushing it on, I felt like it had a good amount of cushion. Then I went to work with the 'JECTAH. It had enough slickness for a good shave too. I didn't try any water only touchups, so I cannot comment on the extent of the residual slickness, but while doing the cold water rinse, it did feel a little slick. This shave was done with the one that is the most forgiving of my current razors in use, but I have no qualms about moving up to the GEM with this soap. It may even be good enough for the straight. We shall see. After 3 passes, I am BBS+ and very happy.

Now onto THE VEG! Sorry, I cannot seem to be able to write it without caps and an exclamation point. The lore surrounding this mysterious green liquid alone seems to be fitting of that formatting. I let my son smell this last night, and he thought that it was a great scent and that it matched the soap well. And since today is his birthday, I decided to go with it. Reacting to my skin it definitely smells differently than it did in the bottle. I can sense some of the notes that may lead some people to believe that it smells like cat urine. But there are many other notes in there as well, and the urine ones are WAY in the back. I am thinking that if I decant this into the glass like Spider recommends, it will get rid of all of those off putting notes. That being said, no one has gone running away from me today at work, as a matter of fact a couple people have been a little more invasive of personal space today. So, I can say that you can count me among the Chosen.

A quick question for those of you with injectors. What do you do to get all the water out of them when you go to store them? I noticed that the blade has a slight amount of rust forming where it contacts the frame of the razor (no where near the edge). With there so much more life left in the blade, the thrifty (cheap) part of me does not want to throw away a blade prematurely, but I do not want to be shaving with a rusty blade either. All my other razors, I just take them apart and dry them. This one I can't do that with.

A la Mancha, today is the little dude's 6th birthday. The LOTH is planning everything. The only things that I know we are doing is the cake that she made (a jello cake) and what we bought him. Other than that, I will be as surprised as anyone else. It should be interesting how everything goes down though. Arabella has softball practice tonight, which usually goes to about 7:00, so most Tuesdays are usually shot. And she can't skip this one, she has her first game on Saturday and she has to pick up her uniform tonight.

Thanks for reading my long rambling today.

Nice reads, Don. Sounds like a challenge at your place right now, but things will get better.

Happy birthday to your son. Nice shave too.

I haven't tried the Wilkie Sword soap, but it sounds like a nice one. The Veg on the other hand didn't seem to work for me. I have been told, by both Spider and Xeno, that decanting it into glass really improves it. One of these days I will give the decanted version another try.

Nice shave Don, and welcome to the ranks of The Chosen! A very happy Birthday to your son as well.
