Good morning Cadre! Hope you had a pleasant night.

Calmer morning today although sleep was disturbed last night due to some storms rolling through. Not complaining though. We need the rain.

In a Dylan mood this morning so here's couple to get you going.

No shave today. Face is feeling better though so maybe tomorrow I can get back to it.

Hope you have a great day!

Good morning Cadre! Hope you had a pleasant night.

Let's get right to today's "Morning Music" segment with the jazz/fusion sounds of Spyro Gyra!

Back to shaving this morning. Face feels a lot better but I erred on the side of caution and limited it to just a two-pass shave. Also plan to avoid the alcohol based splashed for a few days and stick with balms. May even skip a day for a while. I'll see how the 'ol mug is feeling tomorrow morning.

Hope you have a great day! :)

Right on, you're getting back in the swing of things. Man haven't heard Spyro Gyra in ages.

I guess the big question is, did the face peel work?

Good morning Cadre! Hope you had a pleasant night.

Gonna spend the next however many "Morning Music" segments* focusing on instrument-specific selections. Being a bassist, I'm going to focus on that instrument first.

Jeff Berlin first emerged in the 70's as part of Bill Bruford's (Yes, King Crimson) band Bruford along with guitarist extraordinaire, Allan Holdsworth. Being highly outspoken about his belief that a formal instrument instruction is a must, coupled with his Queens NY in-your-face style has made him a very polarizing figure in the bass world. From his 2006 album Aneurythms, here's "Porky & Beans" and "Lapp Dance".

Face felt pretty good this morning so I went ahead and shaved. Again, limited it to just two passes which resulted in a "Socially Acceptable Shave" (SAS) but nowhere near how I like it. Oh well, I'll be able to get back to normal soon I'm sure,

Hope you have a great day!! :)

A friend raved about Bill Bruford, so we went to see him at the Keystone Club in Berkeley. One of the most amazing shows I've attended, with more percussion instruments than I knew existed. Plus a huge gong, which Bruford played to great effect. There was an excellent band with him, including a virtuoso guitarist, but I don't recall his name. Was Allan Holdsworth playing with him in 1979?

I know he was recording with him around that time. I don't know if he was part of the touring band though.

Here's what I found:

The Bruford Tapes is a live 1979 album by the British band Bruford, only issued in the United States, Canada and Japan. It was recorded on July 12, 1979 in Roslyn, New York State and originally broadcast on WLIR radio. Shortly before the tour, guitarist Allan Holdsworth left the band and was replaced by his student John Clark (appearing as "the unknown John Clark" on the album sleeve), who had played with the prog group Quasar. The show features extended performances of material from the group's previous two albums Feels Good to Me and One of a Kind.

Probably very similar to the show I attended.

Good morning Cadre! Hope you had a pleasant night.

Continuing with my "bass-centric" Morning Music segment, today I'd like to feature a cat who blew me away the first time I heard him. Jonas Hellborg hails from Sweden and, in addition to his solo work, has played with such luminaries as John McLaughlin (Mahavishnu Orchestra), Ginger Baker (Cream), Buckethead and many, many more. From his album Abstract Logic, here's "Serpents & Pigs" & the title track, "Abstract Logic". Hope you enjoy.

Face felt great this morning so I thought I'd chance it and hazard a three-pass shave. Went great! Still went with a balm over a splash just to be safe.

Hope you have a great day!

Good morning Cadre! Hope you had a pleasant night!

Let's get to today's "Morning Music - Bass Player" edition. You've seen me write about him often. When I first heard this cat, he blew me away in every way possible. He has been and still remains my all-time favorite bassist. Anthony Jackson! I guess the first song I ever heard him play on was The O'Jays's "For The Love of Money" although I didn't know who he was at the time. I dug that funky, flanged-out line though!! The first time I learned who he was was on Al DiMeola's Casino album and my head was ripped off with the first track, "Egyptian Danza". So here they are. Hope you enjoy!

RESPECT THE BASS!!!

Great shave today! I took the weekend off to give my face a little more time to heal. Three pass, BBS shave today!

Hope you have a great day!
