That must have been some feeling of Nirvana to sit by a serene lake and Hone a razor.
The part about meeting a professional knife sharpener guy next doors. Amazingly serendipitous. Apt to say "two kinds of people in the world - those who hone their own edges and those who don't" ! And this would remind me of Robert Pirsig and his "Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance". Let me not go there now !

Glad u had a great time.

It was an interesting conversation. He approached knife sharpening from a mechanical method, however. He bought a machine for about $1800, he said, that does the work. I showed him the stones and razors I had with me and he was amazed. He felt the True Hard and Coticule and said he never felt anything so smooth.

I landed in Coachella, California this afternoon at the Loves truck stop. I’ll be here till Sunday. Then I’ll move over to Petros at Ontario to set up for Monday’s delivery.

I was very pleased with my last shave. The experiment I ran with honing past my set-point of Shapton Glass 30k, then coming back to the Arkansas True Hard, seemed to work well. Next shave is tomorrow morning.

Hi Leon,
Your last shave look like it was very good. I am all for experimenting, and I would have to think that some of the characteristics of the SG 30k edge will be retained when you go back to the Arkansas stone. It looked like you were getting a good combination of keenness and smoothness.

Yes, for me this was the point of the experiment. Seemed to work well on the two razors, the Hoffritz and The Lord Barber. I think I’ll keep this practice as a standard. BTW, thanks for watching.

Thank you for your comments regarding online courtesy. It's one of the aspects of TSC I like most. Other forums seem to have attack dogs waiting to pounce. It's largely why I left Z&Z or whatever it's called. Kudos for shutting off YouTube comments - I would do the same, and for the same reasons. (y) (y)

These “hit-and-run” bandits act like their mamas never taught them any social graces or manners. The last straw was a couple a days ago when one of the poor creatures said, “That was a terrible shave,” or a day or so before that another said, “Please stop shaving.” Neither offered any comment as to why or improvement.

I knew Jarred of The Superior Shave had shut off his comments due to some horrid things said to him. It just made sense. Shut off comments. Come to TSC to leave comments because we have a code of conduct, and a good enforcer, and a good group of fellas who will hold offenders accountable.

Thank you for your reinforcement, Bruce.

YouTube says Copyright Claim. Another page says, blocked from public view. The video is 1:25.00 if that’s a factor. I used no copyright material. Any suggestion would be helpful.

The shave was “awesome’. Includes head shave and refinements.

Any music? In the background? Even faintly on the radio or something?

From 1950? Maybe it was The Sons of the Pioneers Ken Curtis singing I’ll Take You Home Kathleen?
Your guess is as good as mine. The violations rules and red tape are needlessly bloated and over complicated.

That’s why it’s best to make sure everything you use media-wise in-video is public domain/free use.
