For the Love of Old Spice - Illini's Shave Journal

Happy Halloween Cadre! It's a dreary and overcast day here in Chicagoland, here's hoping the rain stays away for the trick-or-treating later this afternoon. While my kiddos are still not school aged, it's a quiet afternoon on the work front as many of my colleagues take time off to go to various school Halloween festivities.

The weekend was a nice one around here. Saturday my in-laws came over in the morning and my wife and I had a "date day" which included lunch and a stroll along the Riverwalk in our downtown area admiring the foliage. It was a very nice time and much needed time for the two of us! My FIL also finished making a dresser for my daughter (he did the same for me son as he's a bit of a woodworking enthusiast) so he brought it over and I got it anchored to the wall. It's a bit mid-century inspired and really turned out beautifully - solid wood, 1000% nicer than any of the MDF stuff most stores have these days. Definitely an heirloom dresser that he hopes both kids will hang on to.

Yesterday was just a relaxing day around the house, carved a pumpkin from the great-grandparents farm and watched a couple Halloween movies. No shaves over the weekend so 3 days of growth were mowed down with ease this morning. The Canadian Prewar Tech really is one of my favorite razors in the den.

His family makes their own furniture and grows their own pumpkins.

Salt of the earth!!!
Re-reading my post, it sure does make my wife's family sound like the Ingalls! My MIL's parents live an additional 45-ish minutes west of us and all it takes is a quick 15 minute drive west to hit beautiful rolling farmland, so while Naperville is one of the largest suburbs in Chicagoland, it's also pretty far West!

Hopefully everyone had a nice Halloween. The rain stayed away for most of the day yesterday, so around 4 we ventured out with my 2.5 year old son dressed as Spiderman and my 2 month old daughter rocking a homemade Spider costume from my wife. We only went to around 15 houses before my son ran out of steam, but man did the neighbors love seeing them both. I think the overall gloomy weather kept a lot of trick-or-treaters at bay, and we had maybe 15-20 groups come through before shutting off the porch light around 7:15 when my daughter went down. We've never had huge amounts come through, but we don't even make it through 1 Costco bag which is pretty surprising!

Hoping for a quiet week at work, but time well tell. Now that we're into November, I'll continue to use my Coast-to-Coast soap for a while but might start mixing in my B&M Amazelnut and closer to Thanksgiving break out the Stirling Christmas Eve set.

Thanks for stopping by!

Been a fairly quiet week overall which has been welcomed. Ready for the weekend to get here, not too terribly much on the docket so hoping it'll be a nice and relaxing one.

Little bit delayed, but hope everyone had a nice weekend! Spent some time with my parents on Friday, got chores done Saturday, and on Sunday my in-laws stopped by and I was able to get a lot of "winterizing" done out in the lawn. Never a bad excuse to whip out the chainsaw!

Been struggling with the next career move to potentially make (I have an interesting blend of IT and finance experience) and think I arrived at a decision on what to pursue last night after many discussions with friends, colleagues, and of course, most importantly, the Mrs. We'll see if it plays out. Crossing my fingers!

In continuing with my one-in, one-out methodology, I finished off my Sean John 3AM last week, so took the opportunity to use some of those "Wellness Rewards" Visa gift cards on Bentley Silverlake which should be arriving Thursday. Prices seem to have finally settled around $40 on eBay and have been itching to try it for a while. In terms of my next cheapie kill target, I have bottles of both Penguin Ice Blue and Halston Z14 that are primed. Ice Blue is super synthetic but also a nice after shower or "working from my home office and re-spray every 3 hours" dumb reach scent. And Halston Z14 is nice for colder weather.

Thanks for reading!

Today is a WFH day, and my bottle of Bentley Silverlake just landed. It has been compared to the discontinued ADG Essenza quite often, and while I've never smelled that particular frag, it definitely has that ADG vibe going on. I had a sample of ADG EdP that I loved, and to be honest, this is scratching that itch for a mere $40. We'll see how longevity goes, but right now this is feeling like an absolute homerun blind buy for me!

Nice smelling acquisition!

Happy Friday Cadre, we made it through another week. Should be a great weekend, my buddy won tickets to the Goose Island Prop Day release tomorrow so the 2 of us will be enjoying some heavy Bourbon County beers tomorrow at their brewery. Then Sunday is my daughter's christening so will be having the family over afterwards. Weather has gone from Indian Summer straight to winter, with highs in the 30s, so a bit of a bummer there.

Have a great weekend friends, thanks for reading!
