For the Love of Old Spice - Illini's Shave Journal

Staycation continues to be exactly what I needed in terms of disconnecting from work. Yesterday we went to the zoo which is always fun, today we went to a local historical site that has a bunch of old houses, buildings, etc. from when the town was founded in the 19th century. Good stuff!

My bottle of Jimmy Choo Man Ice landed yesterday so I've worn it the last two days - this is great stuff. Definitely has those DHC vibes, and longevity is better than I had expected.

Wife had to stop by Sephora on the way home from the historical site this evening, so had a chance to try out sprays of the new YSL L'Homme EdP as well as Dior Homme Cologne. L'Homme EdP is a nice, darker L'Homme that would be nice in the fall and winter I think. Not quite as versatile as my bottle of L'Homme but still nice. I sprayed DHC on my wrist before leaving, and immediately sprayed on some more Jimmy Choo Man Ice on the opposite arm when I got home so I could do a direct comparison of the two. IMHO they are probably 80% similar, with the Ice a bit more citrus-y and the DHC having more musk. The Ice DEFINITELY beats the DHC in longevity though, as it's been 3 hours and I can barely pick up DHC while Ice is still going strong. Needless to say I'm very happy with the JCM Ice purchase!

Went with my wife and son to "toddler swim" at our neighborhood pool this morning, what a nice way to spend an hour! I could get used to this whole not working thing! Annual physical earlier in the day too, everything looking good which is always welcomed. Played "Ticket To Ride : Nordic Countries" this afternoon, another pick up from the library for our staycation. This one is designed for 2-3 players, and I actually think it's more fun than the base game at a 2 player count, which is obviously what my wife and I most commonly play at. Not sure it's one we need to purchase, but will definitely stay on the list to pick up from our library on occasion, especially towards November/December - just look at this box, it screams Christmastime!

Finished off the AV Ice Blue earlier in the week and switched over to Clubman, another classic!

Ticket to Ride Switzerland 🇨🇭 is also a fun version for just 2 players.
That is one of the few variants our library doesn't currently have, although I've heard great things about it for 2 players. Might have to suggest another purchase for them...

Family time is precious. Savor every moment of your children's youth, Ryan. :)
I was just speaking with a colleague a couple of weeks ago, if there is a silver lining to be found in all of this Covid madness, it's that it fundamentally shifted the expectations and commuter culture of the office-based work force. I went from commuting downtown 4 days a week to 2. That is HUGE amounts of time back (3 hours a day for me) that directly equates to more time with my son and soon-to-be-born daughter. I wouldn't trade that for anything.

Week of staycation officially concluded and it's back to work today. Ah well, such is life.

Friday we took my son to my parents house and had a "date day," the last one before our daughter arrives in a few weeks. We went to a matinee showing of the new-ish Jurassic Park movie which I loved, then had a nice dinner out just the two of us. It's the little things like dinner and a movie that mean the world to us right now. Saturday and Sunday were both relaxing ones around the house, playing games and playing outside as the weather was picture perfect. Set up the sprinkler for my son to run through for the first time, and while he didn't really "run" through it, he had a blast. He also loves his water table, which has gotten a lot of use this summer. Not sure why these didn't exist when we were kids!

When I went into the basement to cycle this morning, I noticed a puddle of water surrounding our HVAC floor drain. Uh oh. Tried to lightly snake the drain to no avail. Knew it could either just be a clogged line or something much worse with the sewer. Thankfully there wasn't any movement when we flushed toilets or anything, and the plumber stopped by this morning and confirmed it was just a clogged line. Quick power rod and we're back to normal. Probably the first time that's ever been done in the 32 year old house, so just need to make sure I'm pouring water down that drain each month. Crisis averted.

Continue to use up my CBL Poseidon soap and Clubman splash. Now also trying to throw in some sample frag bottles into the mix to whittle that stash down too.

Have a great Monday, thanks for stopping by!

Nothing too crazy going on at work yesterday, and hopefully that's the case again today. Have a couple of large things to wrap up here at work over the next couple weeks but kinda feels like we're just in a waiting game for baby girl. My wife had a standard OB appointment last night and everything checked out normal which is always reassuring. Starting to think she just might make it to the scheduled C-section date which is exactly 3 weeks from today!

Have a fantastic day Ryan! And very excited for you!
Thank you Brian! We're excited too!

I remember the feeling. For me, it was a nerve-wracking time that seemed to drag on forever, but of course, I couldn't tell my wife that. :)
My son came so unexpectedly early that we never really got to the waiting game part. So while I am 100% more confident about caring for a newborn compared to our first kid, this waiting part is entirely new and definitely nerve-wracking!!
