For the Love of Old Spice - Illini's Shave Journal

You guys crack me up. My parents first mobile phone wasn't one of the 20 pound ones, but was one of those brick Motorola MicroTAC ones. They still had it in a box when we moved them out of the house I grew up in a couple of years ago.

We had a nice but busy weekend around here. Saturday morning our friends came over with their 5 month old for brunch which was a great time. Our son really hasn't been around many babies, so we were a little worried to see how he would do, but he did awesome. Gave us a little bit of hope for when our daughter comes next month. In the evening we had a block party, which was great since there were people around the block we had still yet to meet after 3 years. Our son was a little young for most of the stuff, but he still had a blast and it was nice meeting some of the other parents we hadn't previously met.

Yesterday we spent most of the morning and early afternoon prepping meals for when our daughter comes. My wife has filled up our basement freezer with meals to make those early weeks a little easier. Was exhausting but will be very welcome when we're both sleep deprived and the last thing we want to do is cook something.

This week is going to be a real busy one here at work but next week I took the entire week off to spend some last minute time with my wife and son before we become a family of 4. Just need to get through this slog!

The wife had this planned for our son too, but coming 5.5 weeks early in the midst of Covid back in May 2020 really threw everything for a loop. She's bound and determined to have everything ready at that same point this time around just in case!

Indeed she was, all the way through the Gold Award. She is still salty because of all the press Eagle Scouts and projects get while the equivalent on the Girl Scout side isn't widely known "or appreciated" per her. Definitely don't want to get her on THAT soap box! :ROFLMAO:

As a military commander, I would prefer to take into battle a battalion of scorned women over a division of over-hyped men.
 
As anticipated, this week has been a little chaotic at work, but at least it's hump day! Really working for the weekend and my week of PTO next week.

Had $10 of Paypal rewards expiring at the end of the month, so placed an order last night for Jimmy Choo Man Ice EdT to replace my bottle of Nautica Voyage that will empty in the not-too-distant future. $24 shipped after the $10 reward, hard to beat that! Gets compared to Dior Homme Cologne and while I don't expect longevity to be great, it should be a great and fresh scent to throw on in the evenings after a long day at work or on the weekends.

I have Dior Homme Cologne and though I love it - it doesn’t have longevity either - so you are getting a great cologne and a fantastic price and you can spray a ton of it

I tried it out the last time I was in Sephora and loved it too (assume it's the new 2022, I can't really keep track of all their variations) but the price is steep for a fleeting longevity scent. Hoping this scratches that itch!
 
Another busy day, but at least it makes it go faster. Last day in the office for over a week so that's a plus! Planned out our staycation last night, lots of R&R is just what the doctor order.

Just got a confirmation email that our local library accepted my request for them to purchase the new Jurassic Park Unmatched game released this year, "Dr. Sattler vs T Rex." We've never played Unmatched, but I love the theming of this set and glad they agreed to order it.

Rare Sunday check in for me! We're on our "staycation" now and it's been a nice and relaxing start around here! Had a nice date night after our son went to bed last night, including take out Chinese and a movie. It's the little things for a 35 week pregnant wife, that's for sure!

With little on the agenda, we've been playing board games during our son's nap the past couple days too. Picked up Everdell yesterday morning from our library and have both enjoyed it! This is the most complex game we've played yet, and I was a little worried the wife wouldn't enjoy it, so that's a pleasant surprise.

On the shave fronts, still plugging along on my CBL Poseidon, but have been working on killing off various mostly empty bottles of aftershaves that have been floating around the den for too long, as well as getting through a backlog of frag samples. So far I've killed my bottles of Osage Rub and Skin Bracer, with my AV just about gone too. Always feels good to de-clutter the cabinet.

Loved the YSL Y EdT 2022 sample, but doesn't smell all THAT much different from my A&F First Instinct Together-, and definitely not enough to justify 5x the price. Invictus Platinum is also very nice with awesome longevity, but don't think I'd pick up a full bottle.

I personally love engine builders / worker placement, but it's been a harder sell on my wife. I have Wingspan on my Switch that I've put over 70 hours into already - she took one look at all the components of the board game when I brought it home from the library and said "hard pass." 😅

Good news is we've played 2 rounds of Everdell now and she's enjoyed both! Looks like we have a winner on our hands!
