For the Love of Old Spice - Illini's Shave Journal

It's been quite a while since I've had time to sit down and browse the Cadre - it's nice to be back! Loved following along in the Rudolph exchange and seeing all the wonderful gifts and photos!

Been chaotic the last week or so, mostly due to various levels of Covid questions across multiple sections of families. Shouldn't be surprised but still put a damper on celebrating with my wife's side as we couldn't even get together with her parents before they headed down to Florida for a little over a month. My son is far too young to care but it was very upsetting for my wife. We'll celebrate with her family once they're back. We were able to celebrate with my parents and sister on Christmas Eve so that was very nice.

Other than that, we've been hanging low around the house, getting projects done when possible, and spending as much time with my son as I can during these time of PTO. Have to take advantage of the time when I can! Tomorrow night, my friend (who is 8 months pregnant) and her husband are coming over and we're going to play some board games to ring in the New Year. Very low key but looking forward to being able to celebrate with another couple!

Hope everyone is staying as healthy as possible right now and had a wonderful Christmas!

Glad to see new posts my friend! I hope you have a wonderful New Year with your friends. You should pop in and say hi for our TSC NYE Zoom!

I've been off this week as well. Getting some stuff done at my pace. Yes, do treasure the time with your son. Happy New Year, Ryan and Family.

I keep saying to myself I need to get on one of these Zoom calls so I can formally put faces to everyone's names! One of these days I'll get there!

Happy New Year, Cadre! After almost a week and a half, today was the first day back to work for 2022 as yesterday was a company holiday. The January/February timeframe is always crazy busy in the finance world, both closing the prior year and finalizing the current year's budget, but hoping that my new role won't be quite so centered in the typical financial planning carousel of pain.

Missed the NYE Cadre Zoom call, but some day soon will make it to one. We spent NYE with my friend and her husband playing the Ticket to Ride board game and catching up - it had been almost 6 months since we saw them in person. It was really nice to ring in the New Year with a couple of friends, especially compared to the previous year. The last 3 days have been spent soaking up family time with the wife and son. As we rapidly approach 2 years since all this Covid craziness began, I continue to find myself both yearning for the days before all of this but also thankful for some of the silver linings that are appearing as well.

Wishing you and yours a wonderful New Year, and looking forward to what 2022 has in store for all of us!

Nothing beats family time. This is the second journal entry I've read today where negative circumstances led a person to reflect on the positives. Very encouraging to read. 😊

Happy Hump Day, Cadre! While I miss the last couple of weeks and spending so much time with the family, it's been nice having a return to a more typical daily schedule. Plus sitting at my computer all day gives me ample time to hop over to the Cadre! Bitter cold has returned to Chicagoland but didn't stop me from having a wonderfully fresh shave this morning. Got a new board game from the library yesterday called "Welcome To..." that was a big hit with the wife last night after getting our son to sleep. Gotta say, we've both really taken to playing board games in the evening because it just feels so much more engaging than vegging out in front of the TV on our phones. Obviously there are always nights where that's a gift in itself, but spending time at the kitchen table playing board games together is just a nice way to spend time together after long days.

Came downstairs after work yesterday and my wife had packed up all of the Christmas decorations - house always feels a little empty post Christmastime. Hoping for a break in the bitter cold this weekend so getting the exterior lights and garland off the house is a bit more bearable.

Not sure what it is about this bitter cold but instead of reaching for spicy warm scents, I've been feeling the blue freshies the past couple days!

I like the heft, and its short, stout handle is easy to grip and cup in my hand.
Yessir, I know many prefer the Slim for its longer handle, but I prefer the short & hefty original!

The Fatboy is my favorite of the Gillette adjustables 😎👍
Me too Chris. Not sure if prices came back down to normal, since I remember seeing them well over $100 on eBay at one point, but I scooped up this user grade one with the original clamshell case for $40 back in 2013. Keep thinking I'll send it into BRG to get replated but then I think about everything this razor has seen over the past 60+ years and keep it as is...

Happy Friday Cadre! Despite it being a short work week, it really dragged so happy to have made it to the end. Don't have a lot on the docket this weekend, so hoping to lay low and get some stuff done around the house. Nice barbershop shave this morning to close out the work week.

I'm not a light applier, so I go with 3 on the chest area and one on each forearm. Don't find this one to project all THAT strongly though so don't feel bad about 5!
Yes 😎👍

I keep wanting to come back to this one but it keeps getting knocked out of rotation. I’ll need to rectify that tomorrow!

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Ours was lowkey as expected while also productive. Saturday I was able to get down the exterior lights before the ice storm but not the garland. Thankfully this coming weekend is looking fairly nice and it usually only takes 15-20 minutes to take down regardless. Did a full house cleaning on Saturday and while today is my wife's birthday, we "celebrated" yesterday with breakfast in bed and a carrot cake. A little harder to celebrate when it falls during the week but I picked her up a doughnut this morning (her favorite food) and we're having deep dish pizza for dinner.

In an uncharacteristic move, I didn't document my shave Saturday and didn't shave at all yesterday. Suppose that's how it goes sometimes when you're chasing around a toddler all day long alongside trying to get stuff done around the house!

Have a great Monday Cadre, thanks for reading!
