For the Love of Old Spice - Illini's Shave Journal

Strong shaves Ryan! Good job finishing a tub! Glad you’re fairing OK with the crazy weather!
Thanks Chris! We obviously have a lot of employees down in Kentucky at the distilleries and thankfully everyone is safe and accounted for. Unfortunately, the tornados stuck the hometown of a DVP that I'm a business partner for and obliterated her mother's house. She sent pictures and despite growing up in an area where tornados aren't exactly rare, the total and complete devastation is nothing I'm ever ready to see. Both our company and distribution partner sent people and supplies to western Kentucky to help with the clean up but it's truly been a wild week of weather here in the Midwest.

Exactly how I do it - when it annoys me, it's gone.
Ha! Life is too short to be annoyed chasing around the remnants of a puck!

Happy Friday, Cadre. Hadn't gone into it previously, but while in the office on Monday someone who I was working with found out they have been exposed to someone who had just tested positive. To be completely safe, I came home Monday night have self-isolated away from my wife and son this week, waiting for this individual to get a PCR done. This person's test came back positive last night, so that means further isolation until I can get a PCR test tomorrow morning and we get the results, which could easily be Monday at this point. A true buzzkill and if I test positive, not sure what we're going to do in terms of isolation, Christmas, etc. Hoping to test negative and not have to worry about that, but the pandemic fatigue is really starting to take a toll on me. There was nothing any of us could have done any more "by the book." The party this person was at was 100% vaccinated, as required by company policy, we wore masks while working together in conference rooms on Monday, only taking them off when we had lunch, and all of us are fully vaccinated as well as boosted. Just seems like at some awful point we're all just going to throw in the towel and let this play out how it wants to, since only living as bubble people seems to make the difference. I cannot begin to imagine the fatigue that doctors, nurses, and all others in those front-line jobs are feeling after 2 years of this, as it's catching up to me now and I'm most definitely not a front-line worker.

Anyways, on a happier note, took the Hombres soap for it's first go-around this morning and it's a definite winner in my book! @BarberDave you and @CBLindsay created quite the unique and wonderful blend of scents! I am thrilled I threw in a puck in my last CBL order. Chased with this bizarre BdC EdP single use sample that I couldn't quite get to spray well. I get some whiffs of it, but it's not particularly strong and definitely not EdP level. What I do smell when I stick my nose against my skin is a pleasant woody fresh scent but definitely not worth the price tag in my book.

Hope you have a wonderful Friday and thanks for reading!

So sorry about the extra stress plus essentially being separated from your family. Here’s hoping for a negative test and moving forward.
Thanks Brian - hoping very hard over here too!
Dang sick people not staying home! So annoying! 🙄

Hope your holiday doesn’t get ruined. Hoping for a clear test!
Thanks Chris!
Hoping you don't study very hard and fail your test, Ryan.
Ha! No kidding, me too!
I went through a period of using quality colognes several years back. I priced them recently and was astounded by the prices. Never had a Chanel product.
Chanel is one of those ones that rarely shows up at grey market discounters too, so for me to pay full retail it definitely would have to "wow" me and BdC EdP definitely didn't do that from this sample card!

Christmas Week is upon us, and it is indeed a good one for me. I got a PCR test done Saturday morning and the results came in around 11pm last night after I had fallen asleep, thankfully negative! While the last week of self-imposed quarantine away from my wife and son was tough, it was the right thing to do for us and I'm thrilled to have tested negative. Got another one today (that we scheduled a few weeks ago) for both me and the wife just to check the box before seeing some family later this week. I felt like George Bailey this morning, reading the test results and running down the hall to give my wife a hug and kiss before going into my son's room to do the same.

Weekend of isolation was a bit of a bummer, but productive in the sense that I was able to edit & backup the 3 year backlog of family home videos I have been putting off. Always feels good to get something off the list like that. This is my last workday of the year, as we have a use-it-or-lose-it policy of PTO. I'm sure I'll answer emails and be on a few fire drill calls as we close out the fiscal year but it will still be nice to have the next couple weeks *mostly* disconnected!

Glad the test was negative! Though if I were going through that I would have said I spent my time in isolation going through every shaving retail site to memorize every available product. You spent yours on family videos- priorities 😂

Just a couple more sleeps until Christmas! While I've been off the last couple days, I've been online working a couple hours each of them working through fire drills. I knew it was probably going to be the case but annoying nonetheless. Just a factor of working in finance around year-end I suppose.

Other than the work-on-PTO stuff, the first few days have been wonderful family time. My wife and I both took one more PCR test before seeing our extended families later this weekend and thankfully both came back negative. We've been baking cookies, watching Christmas movies, playing board games, couldn't really draw up a better week leading up to Christmas! Had to pick up a few last minute things at Target yesterday which is RIGHT next door to a Burlington, so stopped in and found a 50mL of Azzaro Pour Homme that was priced higher than what I would have paid at an online discounter, but instant satisfaction ran supreme here. Smells lovely!

Hope you and yours are staying happy and healthy!
