Plus if they have anything good in the liquor cabinet - fair game
That must have been awesome!
HA! My FIL did actually text my wife and say the exact same thing. The sledding was awesome, we didn't buy one fast enough the first time we had a snow storm this winter, so this time I hustled over to Target and secured one. Pretty sure I had just as much fun as he did!

Does this work for Florida too? You get to go “check” on the house over there when they back home? 🤔
I've been playing this angle for almost 8 years now and haven't been successful yet...hasn't caused my persistence to wane though!

Another busy week but sneaking on TSC while eating lunch is always welcomed. Working through samples discovered during my hunt for Williams in the box of soap and up next is B&M Reserve Spice. Nice scent, good performance, but not quite as Shulton-y as I'd like from an OS themed soap. Glad I picked this up as a sample (years ago I think) compared to a full tub.

Another day, another dollar. Seems like most of us around here are working for the weekend these days. Nothing particularly exciting on the home front, continuing to work our way through seasons of Entourage in the evenings after getting the little guy down to bed.

Took the Canadian Williams puck on her maiden journey this morning in anticipation of February. Didn't want to cut up my nice French Canadian box so still have a normal American box on the tub she was grated into. All systems go! Modern Williams isn't necessarily the sexiest or bestest soap on the market but it just works, no muss no fuss!

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! We had a fairly productive one around here. Went to a couple of fireplace stores as we're looking to convert our gas log fireplace in the family room into an insert that will really provide some much needed heat to that room - it boarders the garage on one wall, exterior walls on 2 sides, is the furthest room from the furnace and has cathedral ceilings, leaving it to be quite cold in the winter. Unfortunately the efficient inserts will run somewhere $8K - $10K installed, so need to figure out when that's in the budget. My in-laws have one from Mendota in their family room and it's a gamechanger, so not a matter of if just a matter of when.

Got a wonderful surprise from a fellow wetshaver in the mail on Saturday, a tub of B&M Amazelnut that he didn't enjoy at all. I fell in love with the first swirl of my shaving brush. Chocolate hazelnut a la Nutella was expected, but it also has some wonderful coffee notes too. Definitely a cooler weather scent but could also see myself reaching for it on a nice relaxing Saturday or Sunday morning shave. Gearing up for the Williams and single blade challenge tomorrow, so won't get touched again for a bit.

Amazel-Shave!

I remember our old house had a wood burning stove and our heating bills were so cheap in the winter. Then we had a house built and I had them put in a gas fireplace because I thought it was cool to start a fire with a remote and not having to chop wood. Then I got our first gas bill (this was back in 2005) - and it was $350 - the rest of the house was a heat pump - so that $350 was on top of our regular bill.

Sounds like you are doing the opposite? Smart move! Hopefully saves you some money (long term)

That's the hope! By having the gas insert in the family room, not only will that room be significantly more enjoyable to live in, but we *should* be able to turn the main thermostat / furnace down, as our second story definitely doesn't need as much heat as is currently being produced and the front of the house gets sun all morning long so is always warmer as well. So in theory a win-win. In practice, we'll see, I'm not sold on how much gas we'll save by being able to turn down the main furnace, but in reality the wife just wants the family room more livable.

Woke up to 5-ish inches of snow this morning, with another projected 4 throughout the day today. Feels like it's been a while since we had a true snow storm like this so can't complain too much. Got out after riding the spin bike and cleared the driveway and sidewalk. For some reason our local district didn't cancel school today, I have to imagine teachers and parents alike are livid at that fact as the roads were absolute garbage this morning as I plowed through the side streets in the Outback. Gotta say the Subaru's live for this weather!

Started Williams February a day early yesterday - whoops. Also started the single blade challenge, so we'll see how long this Bic SP goes for. The Personna Lab Blue went 130+ shaves last year! Second shave with the same set up today was better on both the Williams and SP front. Find it takes a couple days to get Williams re-dialed in and that the first shave with a new blade isn't always the best.

Have a great Hump Day friends, thanks for reading!

Received the predicted 4ish more inches so total for our storm was right around 9 inches. Went out again yesterday afternoon and cleared the remainder after the plows came through and dumped all that great heavy stuff on the driveway apron. Unfortunately woke up this morning and the plows had come through again, depositing another large amount of heavy wet stuff on the apron. Only took another 5ish minutes to clear with the blower but was annoyed nonetheless. I will say I've been very impressed with my Honda single stage through the 3 winters I've had it. It doesn't have any issues throwing the heavy stuff and is leaps and bounds easier to maneuver over a dual-stage. My wife could use this one if she needed to, which would not be the case for the dual-stage.

Last night I took to organizing my fountain pen ink collection, which has been sitting in a drawer mostly untouched since we moved out of the city to the burbs 2.5 years ago. I fell down the fountain pen rabbit hole back in 2015, and used to have a great time at a local fountain pen meetup group when living in the city. Since moving to the suburbs, the lack of a regular pen meetup coupled with the extreme reduction in my hobby expendable income due to having a child means I haven't purchased anything fountain pen related in those 2.5 years since moving. No worries there, as I have plenty to keep me busy in this space when my heart desires FP items.

My collection was primarily ink driven, and mostly samples at that. While I have around 15 pens and 21 full bottles of ink, the true love was in trying, swabbing, and cataloging ink samples. I have 91 ink swabs in the catalog, with 16 I've found were swabbed onto cards but never properly inked up in a pen. So I organized these 16 remaining samples along with my catalog of cards last night and look forward to working my way through these over the next year or so.

Day 3 of Williams and one blade February was as good as one could ask. Going to be a nice February with Williams and looking forward to seeing how long I can push this Bic SP.

You are way more organized than I could ever be! I looked in the app store - and found several pen and ink collection apps. Big time cool.

Have a fantastic day!
