For the Love of Old Spice - Illini's Shave Journal

Apparently I forgot to include this morning's SOTD in my post - Mark's representation of me is more accurate by the minute this Monday! Celebrating my wife by chasing with both our wedding aftershave as well as her favorite EdT.

TGI Hump Day. Crazy hectic day at work yesterday so hoping for a slower one today. Our toddler is really testing both mine and my wife's patience as he enters the "throw everything, hit everything" stage while still being what we feel is a little young to fully understand time outs and such. So it goes! Nice barbershop shave this morning. Thanks for reading!

Almost there friends, almost there. Got a nice little assortment of free frag samples in the mail from Bloomingdales yesterday which was a welcomed surprise. Some heavy hitters in this one. Chris' post yesterday reminded me that I needed to finish off quite a few lingering frag samples, and the arrival of 4 more only expedited the need! Looking forward to giving these ones a try, as I've only smelled Light Blue before (and much preferred the Light Blue Intense, but beggars can't be choosers when it comes to free mailer samples!!) Wonderful shave with CBL Hombres, chased with Thayers and *almost* the last of my Bottega Veneta Illusione EdT sample vial.

Friday is finally here - talk about a drawn out work week. Looking forward to a hopefully relaxing weekend around the house. We actually have Monday off for MLK Day, which always catches me off-guard since I don't have a kid in school yet, so 3 day weekend here I come!

Have a fantastic weekend, Cadre!

Somehow I blinked and it's already Hump Day again - guess having Monday off and a hectic Tuesday at work will do that to a guy. Weekend was phenomenal - exactly what the doctor ordered. Lots of relaxing with the family, played some board games with the wife, took down the remaining Christmas garland we had on the front of the house and went to the Zoo to see the dolphin show (my son's favorite.) Sounds like a lot when I type it all out, but spread over 3 days it really felt like a nice and easy going weekend.

Work has been crazy as it typically is this time of year. Looking forward to both the Williams and One Blade challenges here on the Cadre kicking off in February. Shaves were on and off this weekend, but continue to work through the backlog of frag samples as well as the existing stash of soaps.

One more day...one more day...hoping for a quieter day today but who knows.

Sample heavy shave this morning. Been wetshaving since early 2014 but had never tried Shannon's. Had a couple of samples of her barbershop soap laying in the bin that I stumbled across looking for Williams so threw it in a bowl and gave it a go this morning. Great stuff, lather was as yogurt-y as I expect of a good soap with matching performance. Nice barbershop scent too. Chased with Thayers (a must when it gets this cold and dry out) and JV XX Indigo.

Thanks for reading.

We made it to Friday, friends. Not sure why but this week really dragged despite it being both a short work week and a crazy busy one at that. Happy to have made it.

Nothing too exciting on the agenda for this weekend except continuing to lay low, which means more family time. While easy to go stir crazy, there's also something to be said about being able to spend so much quality time together just the 3 of us. Continue to try and find the silver lining in all this Covid craziness...

Shave yesterday was so good, I had to do it again this morning. Shannon's is a great soap no doubt. Chased with my sample of JPG Le Male Le Parfum and it set me up to tackle the last work day this week. Thanks for stopping in!

Happy Monday Cadre. Was just thinking last week that we really hadn't had much snow - of course that was rectified the past 24 hours with around half a foot falling. Nothing too crazy and across 2 systems so easy to get cleared, but that'll teach me to think about snow...

Weekend was a lovely one with the family. Spent Saturday at my in-laws house, without my in-laws, as they're down in Florida. They appreciated having us go and check up on the house, and my wife appreciated the change in scenery. Win-win for all. Yesterday we took my son to the neighborhood retention basin where he had his first time sledding. It was a blast and he loved it. Those are the types of memories that last forever as a parent.

Also found a set of Z-14 cologne and aftershave for a whopping $9.99 at our Burlington on Saturday evening so of course I had to pick it up. My father had a bottle of Z-14 that I distinctly remember stealing and applying what was probably 10 - 15 sprays before my first middle school dance in the early 2000's. For an EdC, this one has some serious staying power and the combo of woods and cinnamon are really nice for this time of year. Definitely an older-school frag but one I definitely enjoy!

Hoping this week is a little quieter than last, but we'll see. Thanks for catching up!
