For the Love of Old Spice - Illini's Shave Journal

Two days growth is not the norm, but was absolutely smoked by my tried and true combo of Schick Krona loaded with a Lab Blue. Something about this combo is just "Holy Grail" level for me. No matter the soap, stubble, age of blade, or personal disposition that morning, I know that I'm going to get a good shave. Threw together a "super lather" of MWF and TOBS Mr. Taylor and chased with more of my sample of Burberry Hero. Still nothing particularly special about this EdT but it is a nice woody scent and seems to fit both the current frigid weather and holiday season well.

Thanks for your thoughts on Burberry Hero…hadn’t really seen any reviews yet, though I know it’s still relatively new.

This past week was one of the busiest I've had at work in a long time. So much so that I had to abandon my morning ritual of coffee and TSC before jumping into work stuff. No bother, it's a nice and quiet Sunday morning so no time like the present to get caught up on both mine and everyone else's journals!

Friday was a company-wide holiday "to thank everyone for their hard work this year." Always nice to have a random Friday off, especially during the holiday season! Weather was gorgeous in the morning, so we drove downtown and took my son to the Christkindl Market at Daley Plaza. My wife and I have gone every year since being together, and I have a nice little display of each year's mulled wine mugs we've gotten displayed each Christmas in our house. It was crowded per usual but nice to have the tradition again after having it cancelled last year.

Yesterday we were supposed to go down to Champaign to watch the Illini - Arizona basketball game, an annual tradition we have with my wife's friend and her husband. But her husband got a concussion on a piece of farm equipment, so rather than be the 3rd wheel, I told her to just drive down and have a ladies brunch instead. My parents were already going to watch our son, so I had just about all of Saturday completely to myself for the first time in probably years. My wife was supposed to be back around dinner but of course they got caught up talking and she didn't get home until almost 9pm. I got some errands done, watched some basketball, had some brews, ordered a pizza for dinner, pretty much the most stereotypical "bachelor" day I could have drawn up. And it was lovely. Today we're headed over to my parents around lunch to grab the little guy and celebrate my dad's birthday as it's tomorrow. Think we have some small things around the house we want to get done this afternoon but overall should be a pretty relaxing day. Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Birthday to your dad and what a fantastic weekend recap! So glad you got a recharge day! And does that guy realize he has a large beer can on his head?
Our son is at the age where he can process what is right and wrong, and tests it multiple times an hour, but not quite at the age where a punishment really means anything. Exhausting to say the least, so 24 hours with grandma and grandpa was exactly what both mom and dad needed to recharge!

Wow! Fantastic update Ryan! Glad it’s been a good, albeit busy week!

Happy Monday, Cadre! I'm in the office today as my backfill for my previous role started with our company this morning. It'll be nice to finally get my old R&R off my plate and transitioned to someone new. These prolonged transitions at work when you "dual hat" aka do two jobs definitely wears on you. Our little guy came down with a cold last night, so a 2am wakeup to give him some Tylenol and raise up the crib mattress a tad to help with his congestion was ordered. Result was not great sleep but a 5am ride on the spin bike still felt great. No shave yesterday but today's with the SC Old Spice set was a fantastic way to start this commute day!

I hope your son feels better soon, Ryan. I was always frustrated when one of our sons would be ill. I wanted to take their germs myself, because it didn't seem fair it should happen to them.

Wishes for a speedy recovery for Ryan Jr! I’ll bet your previous team is appreciative of your back-filling! Hopefully it’s not too much longer.

Good vibes for the little guy! Mat the future Cubs fan get better quickly!!
Really know how to grind my gears with the Cubs comments, Brian!! :ROFLMAO:

100% agreed Bruce. It's heartbreaking. Unfortunately both my wife and I have sore throats this morning so looks like we got the germs - ugh!

Thanks Chris! The team is definitely appreciative, which helps a lot. Everyone from the VP of sales finance down has made comments acknowledging the dual-hatting and expressing gratitude which makes it a little easier!

Nice shave this morning with some season software. Continue to love this sample of Y Le Parfum too, definitely getting the spicy apple notes that seem to meld well with this time of year!

Happy Thursday, Cadre, we're almost there. Been a busy couple of days at work so really looking forward to some holiday R&R this weekend. Our weather has been wild the last 48 hours, with crazy wind and temps above 60 degrees. Had me reaching for the last of my CBL iColoniali project soap this morning and chasing with TdH to capture a bit of a warm weather shave. I decided I was tired of reforming the remaining soap so officially called it on this puck. Despite how soft the soap was in this new project base from Chris, I still only averaged around 1.7g of soap per shave which is very low for me. Never had any issues with lathers either, so just a base that goes a long way! This was a project puck he sent with an order over the summer and I know I need to add a tub of the final product to my next order. The green tub is already loaded up with the next CBL victim, Hombres!
