For the Love of Old Spice - Illini's Shave Journal

Thank you for all the kind words on the house - while grabbing the mail yesterday evening, one of our neighbors said the house looked like it belonged in one of those Hallmark Christmas movies. If that's not one of the highest compliments a 40-somethings woman can give me, I'm not sure what is!
Actually, Ryan, I have a neighbor in a small house with a small yard who has their lawn, yard, tree, and roof all lit up. I don't know how the neighbors can sleep.

You photo reminded me of a Hallmark Christmas card. Very nicely done.

Happy Hump Day, Cadre! I had an unexpected afternoon of time with my son and wife as our internet cut out around 2:30. What was originally supposed to be "momentary" turned into 9 hours of an internet-less neighborhood. You'd think the world was ending based on the state of our neighborhood Facebook group! I actually very much enjoyed being forced to disconnect. We baked cookies as a family and after my son went to bed, my wife and I played a couple rounds of Carcassonne while listening to Christmas music. It was lovely. Technology is a wonderful thing, but it's times of forced disconnection that always make me step back and remember how nice and simple life can be.

As the calendar flips to December, I am fully into the Christmas spirit and am looking forward to shaving with my Christmas software with a ton of frequency over the next month!

I have some outstanding board games, but I can never get my family to commit to playing. :(
Settlers of Cataan
Vintage Hotels
Pillars of the Earth
I am ready to play!!!!
My wife was hesitant at first, but I think she's warming up to games, especially those that play well with 2 people. Rather than sit in front of the TV at night, we've been having fun playing some ones I've picked up from our local library. Carcassonne was the first, but last night I also picked up Love Letter which although seems like it'd be better with more people, was still a blast!

Better late than never post today - almost to Friday! Been busy at work today but we're heading to the zoo in a little bit for "Zoo Lights" with the little guy. I'm sure mom and dad will enjoy it more than him, but he's almost at the age where these things are fun and his enjoyment of activities seems to vary day to day so we'll see!

Another great shave with my other Christmas themed soap, Frankincense & Myrrh. Reminds me of the old QCS Basilica soap for anyone who's been around long enough to remember that one. Definitely a unique one but lovely nonetheless. Chased with a sample of Spicebomb Infrared which is as lovely at home as it smelled when I tried it at Sephora. Definitely some spicy cinnamon on the nose so I get the "fireball whiskey" or "red hot candies" that seem to be the trend on Fragrantica. A new release so will wait for it to hit better prices at discounters but definitely going on my list to pick up as a wonderful winter scent.

Very fun to try new frags! Have you tried the other Spicebombs already?

I have sprayed the entire line at various times at Sephora, but this is the first time I've had a sample of the line to try at home. The wife loved Night Vision in the store, which I know gets a lot of flack for being a generic crowd pleaser, but it has that title for a reason! At some point I'll either get Macy's to send me some of the original and extreme or settle for decants because I definitely need an at home try of those!

Happy Friday, Cadre! We made it! Last night was a wonderful night for Zoo Lights, with the unseasonably warm weather we've had. Still got a little chilly after the sun went down but still warmer than normal. The kiddo seemed a little unimpressed by much of the lights, until we got to the giant tree in the front with all the lights synchronized to music - we spent a lot of time dancing at that tree! It was a special night.

Shave this morning was a nice barbershop one, chased with Clubman and Nautica Voyage since it's sunny and almost 50 here again today! Have a fantastic end to the work week friends!

Fun night indeed! Hard to tell sometimes if ever they are cognizant of certain things. There’s been days they’ve said at the time were great that they never talk about again and others that it seemed there was minimal interest that later they’ll say was the greatest thing ever 😂🤷‍♂️

Happy Tuesday, Cadre. One workday down, 4 to go! Or in my case, our leadership team gave everyone this Friday off as a holiday thank-you, so only 3 left!

Weekend was wonderful. Saturday was our annual "train crawl" organized by one of my best friend's sister and her husband. This was the 9th year (would have been the 10th but last year didn't happen for obvious reasons) and we ride the local commuter rail and make stops at local bars near various stations. It started off small but grew to over 100 friends and family in years past. There is also a raffle of donated items with all the proceeds going to the local children's hospital. It's a truly wonderful event and while no where near as rambunctious as it was when we were 10 years younger, is still a blast of a day and now the only time we see some of these folks. Not nearly as big a crowd this year either, but it was nice to get those who felt comfortable together again. Our little guy stayed with my in-laws and met us at the last stop, which turned into a playgroup of sorts as many of us now have kids. A fun and festive way to kick off our December!

Sunday my wife had a baby shower so it was Mr. Dad for most of the morning and early afternoon. We don't get a lot of 1:1 time together without mom, so while exhausting, it was great bonding time. It's amazing how much he's grown which despite still being full-time WFH I don't think I get a chance to appreciate as much as my wife. Yesterday was crazy busy at work, and barely had time to get a shower in so no shave.
