For the Love of Old Spice - Illini's Shave Journal

I love my Kindle!
I love mine too! It's gotten quite a lot of use over the last 9 years especially when I was traveling overseas 75% of my time for work.

I remember lamenting incessantly to my wife how incredibly painful it was passing a kidney stone. She told me to contemplate how my sons were brought into the world.
My wife said the same thing. The stones are genetic and my mother said the pain for her was "on par" with childbirth. Not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing but it's not pain I'd want to experience ever again if possible.

Happy Friday Cadre, we made it! Looking forward to a weekend of friends and family, as I'm catching up with some buddies tonight and have a family birthday party tomorrow.

Got a nice box of cologne samples from Macy's yesterday, so trying out Burberry Hero today. It is a nice woody scent, inoffensive and great for an autumn or winter day. Once again, think that fragcomm is too hard on these designer releases because they're not "daring" enough but I have to imagine 9 out of 10 guys walking through a Macy's or Bloomindales would smell this and enjoy it, perhaps enough to pick up a bottle at full retail. Would I? Probably not, there are cheaper bottles out there that deliver the nice fresh wood scent, but I can see why Burberry went this direction and it's not bad!

Hope you're having a wonderful weekend Cadre!

After 10 or so years, my wife's Macbook Pro was mostly unusable. She still has the full Adobe suite (back before you had to pay a subscription and could purchase the licenses outright) so she's been milking that machine as much as possible. And while it still boots and can be used for her Adobe needs, just browsing the internet had became a chore. So I did some research and determined she really didn't need anything more than Chromebooks offer. Outside of her Adobe needs (which even if we bought another full-fledged laptop she wasn't going to subscribe to) she really just browses the internet and uses the Google workspace apps (Sheets, Docs, etc.) I owned the very first Chromebook offered a decade ago and as an early adopter, wasn't impressed. As it turns out, they've come a long way in 10 years and I found one from Lenovo for $300 that reviewed extremely well, had an Intel chipset and a nice long battery life. Arrived on Friday and we're loving it so far! I really didn't want to boot up my work ThinkPad on weekends so I'm loving having this for browsing TSC with my weekend morning coffee.

Spent Friday night down in the city with some of my buddies, as one was in town for an appointment on Saturday morning. This was the first time we were out together at a bar in over 2 years and it was great to catch up like old times. Yesterday we celebrated a family birthday which was very nice too. Planning on watching football today as it's the first Sunday we haven't had plans in a while.

Have a great Sunday!

Very nice, Ryan. What do you think of the SC Balm? I’ve tried the quality soap, but not any of their post shave products.

I've been very impressed with the SC balm. It doesn't leave my skin overly oily (which is much needed since I have naturally oily skin that needs just a touch of help in the cold months) and has a nice little "zest" of menthol in this one. I did figure out the need to give the bottle a good shake before use as it can separate a bit if left to its own devices for a while. Wouldn't hesitate to re-purchase once this bottle is gone.

Spent yesterday morning volunteering at a local forest preserve clearing out and burning invasive buckthorn and honeysuckle. Our Japanese holding company owners are very into giving back and the environment so we are allotted 3 days a year to go and volunteer. Weather was beautiful and couldn't ask for a better way to spend a morning away from the home office.

My home office has been a disaster for at least a year as it became the catch-all for crap we wanted to keep away from our son as we babyproofed the rest of the house. My wife spent much of the day yesterday organizing and putting everything away in here, as well as getting a bunch of stuff hung up on the walls. It now feels like a proper home office which is very much appreciated. She is a saint, I tell you!

Last couple of shaves have been nice. Nothing too exciting but sometimes that's simply the best thing to report. Bluebird blades continue to perform as I've come to expect from any respectable DE blade, in that it's giving me no-muss no-fuss results. The JPG Le Male Le Parfum sample continues to be a nice and warm EdP, and I'm liking it more and more as I use up the sample vial.

Ryan, it's cool that your company supports volunteerism and that you got to spend the day doing something fun/meaningful. My company did likewise, and I had the opportunity to be a middle school math mentor for a few years.

Kudos on the home office cleanup! I did the same thing awhile back, and it feels good to be organized. I worked on my garage yesterday and plan to get out there again today. I may open a hardware to store with the stuff I'm finding tucked away. :)
