For the Love of Old Spice - Illini's Shave Journal

Had a very unexpected gift delivered to my door yesterday afternoon from an extremely generous @MilkCrate : a tub of 1960's Old Spice! This type of generosity, sending someone a vintage tub of soap just out of the kindness of their being, is truly why this place is the best little corner of the internet. Thank you so much Tim, I'm planning to lather it up this morning!

Nothing particularly exciting to report yesterday, continue to be super busy at work. Congestion seems to get better with each day though, so I'm thankful for that. Looking forward to getting back on the indoor spin bike once this head cold subsides.

Had me an absolutely stellar "vintage" shave today thanks to Tim! The amount of scent left in this Old Spice soap is a wonderful surprise. Performance was top notch - they really don't make mass produced soaps like this anymore. Had to use a 60's era Gillette so threw the Astra SP in my '66 Gillette Slim. Effortless lather, great performance, and no complaints around postshave feel. Chased with vintage Shulton OS and then Grey Flannel and it felt like I stepped back in time. Surprised my wife didn't take me for Sean Connery! Thank you again @MilkCrate for your generosity!

You are more than welcome my friend. I’m glad it worked well, I never tried it.

Hoping to sneak in a day off tomorrow, so barring any last minute meetings or requests, today is my Friday! Looking forward to the weekend, especially Halloween now that my son is old enough to walk around in his costume and go to a few houses for Trick or Treating. Should be fun!

Nice "fruity" shave this morning, CBL's iColoniali never disappoints. Had to whip out the "Italian Face Broom" after @August West 's thread, and chased the shave with Vintage from Shiseido which has a nice citrus burst as well as TdH EdT.

Awesome! What's he dressing up as? Are you dressing up as well?
He is Buzz Lightyear this year. The little guy LOVES Toy Story more than anything else. I am not, adult costumes were not a priority in the budget this year and are shockingly expensive!!

Yes! Send out the cute little guy to collect candy for dad! 😜
Good news at 18 months old, we'll end up with most of the candy because he doesn't know any different!

Reese's are my all time favorite too!

Fantastic. Have Fun with Buzz Lightyear.

Happy Monday, Cadre, I hope you had a wonderful and festive weekend!

I was able to take Friday off which was much needed after a rough couple of weeks at work. We spent a lot of time together as a family doing festive Halloween activities including my son's first time carving a pumpkin and Trick-or-Treating yesterday. Although this was technically his second Halloween, he was only 5 months old last year and due to Covid we didn't get to go around at all, so was great to head around then neighborhood this year. His Buzz Lightyear costume was a huge hit and mom even let him have a few pieces of chocolate last night. All-in-all a wonderful extended weekend.

Glad you had a good, family weekend Ryan! Sounds like the little guy had a blast. Well done!
Thanks Chris! Good times had by all!

awesome! Glad your family had a great Halloween!
Thank you Brian! My wife just showed me the trailer for the new "Lightyear" movie coming out next year and while I'm not sure my son will be quite old enough to go to the theater, I'm fairly confident he is going to love it once it's on Disney+!

Got what I anticipate to be one of the last mows of the year done on the lawn today at lunch. Was a tough summer and it doesn't look as good as it did last year, but so it goes. I live to fight on next spring! Productive day at work today which is always a welcomed way to start the week. Planning to get back on the spin bike tomorrow morning for the first time in over a week thanks to the head cold which will be nice. Might have to enjoy a nice pour of bourbon tonight after the kid goes down for bed.

First shave with a Bluebird blade today and it wasn't one of the best. Nothing terrible, just not particularly enjoyable either. The Schick Krona is my first stop in evaluating a blade since there are few blades I've found that don't work in it. We'll see how it progresses over the next few shaves and blades but things not looking so rosy for them right now!
