For the Love of Old Spice - Illini's Shave Journal

Between our staycation, my work trip to Charleston and a family wedding down in Austin this past weekend, it's been a wild couple of weeks but things are finally back to normal around here. Had a great weekend celebrating my cousin's wedding down in Austin. My son stayed with my in-laws and it was great to see and spend time with the family. Looking forward to catching up on journals and the rest of TSC this week. My White Sox avoided the ALDS sweep but today's game was rain delayed due to some pretty big storms that are supposed to be rolling through later this afternoon. Don't think they made it to the ALCS since they have just looked outmatched for most of the series but crazier things have happened I suppose!

Shaves have been infrequent over the last week but hoping that today is the last 80 degree day until next summer. We'll see! Was a great chance to try out a brand-new-to-me tester of TdH that I acquired during a trade of software with a fellow wetshaver. He said he had only used it a handful of times and it looks basically full to me! TdH is just a wonderful scent and a fantastic addition to the den.

Genuinely nervous for the Sox's 1pm game today to stay alive. Here's hoping they have a little more magic in them to push it to 5 games. Shave this morning was just nice and easy. Nothing fancy, nothing special, just great scents and a great result.

Happy Hump Day Cadre. Work week is going quickly which is always nice. Looking forward to a weekend around the house as it feels like it's been ages since we've done that.

Lovely shave with SC Endurance this morning. Always feels like they get lost in the shuffle with all the "newest and greatest" artisans on the scene. Great soap, great post shave, what's not to love?

Really starting to finally feel like autumn around here. Been cool and wet the last 3 days or so which has been great for my lawn. Just saw that we haven't hit the 40s yet this season which officially makes it the latest in the season we've gone without hitting it since record keeping started in 1914. Wild!

Nice shave this morning with the 45th Parallel set and chased with Grey Flannel since cool and wet weather seems to match perfectly with its scent.

Great shave Ryan! Our area weather can’t make up its mind either. Our last couple weeks have ranged from low 60s to low 80s and back again a couple times.

Still a bit shook up from the news our TSC brother Ed passed away, so don't have much to say over here today.

Hello Cadre, it's been a little bit! Life has been moving pretty fast this past week, as I'm firmly doing the old "dual hat" role at work until they hire a backfill for my old role. Not a fun time but unfortunately something we all deal with if there isn't someone lined up to backfill you. On the home front, our little guy is firmly in the "run around the house all day every day" phase now that his confidence in walking has reached a new high. Exhausting but wonderful all the same. Weather was picture perfect this past weekend and in the 70s through today. Looks like that was probably the last time we'll see 70 this season, which I'm okay with as I love the cool autumn weather.

Shaves have been a bit more intermittent with all the hustle and bustle. Had the chance to break out my new bottle of LNDL Bleu Electrique this morning as it was in the 50's and felt like a great excuse to use a warmer and spicy scent. Wow this is great stuff! Definitely no traditional blue notes, but just LNDL turned to 11. I've read people equating this to what LNDL was before reformulations. I don't have any of that juice but nonetheless this is a great EdT from YSL!

Hope everyone is hanging in there. Thanks for stopping by!

Well Cadre, it was a solid 18 month run, but my little man finally caught his first sickness last Thursday. My wife stays home so he doesn't go to day care, and as a result of Covid his interactions with other kids his age are a bit more intermittent than normal since we aren't seeing friends and family nearly as much as we normally would have. What that lead to was him not catching anything, not even a cold, for the first 18 months of his life. A pretty great run if you ask me! But this past week he spent a couple days at some toddler playgroups at our library with my wife and caught what appears to be a head cold. Which he then promptly gave to both me and my wife by Friday evening.

Of course, he was acting perfectly fine after 12 hours but my wife and I were both pretty miserable on Saturday, both having low grade fevers and tons of sinus pressure. Thankfully both of us were feeling much better on Sunday and by yesterday it felt much more what I remember typical head colds feeling like. Not sure if it had just been so long since either of us had been sick too and our immune systems just went into overdrive or what. We didn't think it was Covid but I got a test Sunday just to close that loop and it came back negative lasts night so all good there. Happy to be back on the mend with just a little bit of congestion left today.
