For the Love of Old Spice - Illini's Shave Journal

Made it to Hump Day, journal friends. Another cool and crisp autumn-like morning here, with highs only expected in the mid-60's. Really went from summer to autumn here in just a few days. Won't catch me complaining, this is my favorite weather. Would enjoy a little bit more sun but at this point I'm just happy for cooler weather. And the grass is loving the damp and cool days.

Another great shave with Macduffs Coast to Coast, which although I think could be used year-round, really evokes some autumn vibes not only with the beautiful label but also the maple and ginger notes. Haven't tried another soap like it that's for sure. Chased with a sample of D&G K EdP I got from a Macy's mailer - now that I'm on their "list" I get tons of promotions on Instagram asking me to sign up for samples. Won't find me declining free samples of things I haven't tried! This one came alongside Prada Luna Rossa Ocean and Carolina Herrera Bad Boy EdT. Nice little trifecta of samples I hadn't previously tried.

I'm not sure why K gets the hate it does, or at least, not this EdP version. It's warm and just a bit spicy to my nose. Don't get a lot of the citrus or dill people talk about over on Fragrantica but that's okay. As it has settled down into the mid definitely getting the woody and sage notes more. Interested to see how it performs over the next 6 hours or so, as I'd expect longevity to be pretty good at the EdP concentration. Not something I'm jumping to add to my future purchases list, but a nice scent nonetheless and feels like it fit well with today's cooler weather.

Glad you found the sample bandwagon! It’s really quite convenient 😂👍
Especially when they're free!

Today is actually my Friday, as I'm officially on PTO tomorrow and all of next week. I cannot wait to throw up my OOO this evening in Outlook this evening. Part staycation, part small trip over to Cuyahoga National Park for 3 days next week, it's going to be glorious.

Wonderful Old Spice themed shave this morning, chased with the sample of Bad Boy EdT. I know this is another one of those that gets flamed and I can't say I love the look of the kitschy bottle, but the scent is nice! Another warmer spicy open, settling down with some vanilla and amber. Feels like a nice date night or autumn scent. I get that it's not the most unique scent in the world but again, I just want to smell good and not be "challenged" by a scent! Not one I'm throwing on my to-buy list but a nice way to end my Old Spice shave this morning!

In keeping with my Bad Boy persona today, I just cracked a beer while working to celebrate the White Sox clinching the division. AL Central was a total cake walk this year and they haven't exactly instilled a ton of confidence since the Break, but I'll be damned if I'm not going to celebrate while I can! First time clinching in 13 years and the first time in club history they've played October ball two years in a row.

Congratulations on the job. And thanks for sharing your feelings on your friends suicide. Crushing the stigma of mental health has been a lifelong passion. I have also seen first hand what the stigma has done in the Veterans community and my community in general. To ask for help takes courage and thanks for speaking out.

I’m jealous of your team!

Been slacking in the journal updates, but the PTO started on Friday and continues this week so trying to soak up the non-working time as much as possible! Was a great weekend full of family and friends which was fantastic. Today it was almost 90 outside so I spent the afternoon powerwashing the front and back porches, giving the cars a wash and then winterizing the engine and pump for the season. Tomorrow morning we hit the road to head to Cuyahoga National Park over in Ohio for a quick little getaway. Hopefully the foliage is nice but regardless the weather is shaping up to be great for some casual hikes and bike rides with the wife and little guy. Should be some nice R&R.

Hello Cadre, it's nice to be back!

Had a truly wonderful week off with the family. Staycation around the house was relaxing and much needed R&R. The 3 days we spent over in Ohio was lovely as well. Unfortunately the foliage hadn't really turned yet, but the national park was lovely and we enjoyed some light hiking and bike riding. This was our first true trip away from home with the little guy, and he did great both on the 6 hour drives to and from as well as in the hotel.

Last night I flew out to Charleston, SC for a quick 3 day internal conference. My wife and I visited 3 years ago and I loved this city, so I'm happy to be back. First time on a plane in almost 2 years so that was a little surreal. Carry on travel required me to break out the air travel dopp for the first time in equally as long. No problem, I have no issues getting a perfectly acceptable shave from the TracII cart and Barbasol.

Great weekend there Ryan! Car rides often knocked out kids out like a light when they were little…so if nothin else, they’re good for that!😂

Safe travels!

Our little guy really doesn't like napping anywhere but his crib, so we were a little worried about a 6.5 hour drive. The iPad headrest mount coupled with Toy Story 1-3 kept him entertained until his afternoon nap so all in all, a big win for us!

Nice update and welcome back!
Thanks Tim!

Glad you had a great stay-cation. :)
Thanks Mark! Sometimes it's nice not to trudge through the airport and just relax

Enjoy! I love the beaches there and the Haunted Tours lol
My wife and I visited Charleston and Savannah probably 3 or 4 years ago and while we loved both, Charleston was the winner for both of us. It's just such a beautiful historical city.

First day of meetings were fantastic. Dinner and cocktails last night with the team at a restaurant I would never spend the money on myself which I suppose is a huge benefit of business travel! Might have some downtime this afternoon to squeeze in a walk around downtown which would be nice.

Same travel setup, and I have to say I'm really liking this sample of YSL L'Homme Le Parfum. Not sure why it gets the flack it does!
