Ben, Dave, and I were talking about soaps yesterday and this soap came up so I decided to use it today. I really do love the scent and performance of this soap. I think Todd considers this scent as a Barbershop scent which I can definitely see now. Also I wanted to evaluate this soap again because I remember debating whether or not to include this soap in the original elite soap experiment. So what I gathered is this soap scored a 27.5/30. Very close to being elite, but not quite. What does intrigue me though is KoO is not in the Buffala base or Siero, so I am curious how those two bases would score. Either way it was a great shave with no weepers or touchdowns.

Thanks for reading Cadre, and I hope y'all had a great start to y'alls weekend!

This is interesting. I never would have considered KoO a barbershop scent. I took another sniff just a minute ago and now that you mention it...I can smell more powder than I originally had thought. So I can see where someone might call this barbershop. But to me...it is much sharper than that. Spicy actually. I would say that this is borderline oriental in scent. I would almost put it in the category as Dragon's Blood or Nag Champa...but sharper and not nearly as sweet. Just my thoughts.

As far as the oud being synthetic or not...I think it is an interpretation of...and not a direct representative...here is what the website says:

Oud - Originating from Southeast Asia and South Asia, Oud is rare and widely sought after in traditional perfumes. Natural Oud is said to cost more than its weight in gold. We used a blend of essential oils, aroma chemicals and resins to create an interpretation of Oud. King of Oud combines the freshness of Bergamot and scents of Rose and Pink Pepper sitting on a bed of Oud, Patchouli and Vetiver for a fragrance that is both fresh and richly aromatic.

Top Notes: Bergamot, Lemon, Clary Sage, Rose, Aldehydes and Pink Pepper
Middle notes: Angelica, Rosewood, Galbanum
Base notes: Agarwood or Oud, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Patchouli and Amber

I think the top notes are what is bringing barbershop to mind??? I dunno. Never smelled it, but it's now on my list of things to smell which will be fixed on Friday. The spiciness/oriental is what intrigues me.

Moisturizer: Hyaluronic Serum drops

After seeing everyone use their SV soaps I had to use mine. Cosmo is definitely a darker scent more suited for fall or winter, but I don't care. A great scent is a great scent. Decided to use the OREN today because there was a little irritation from yesterday's dumb call of going ATG. Well that dumb call just resulted in more stupidity. I raked over a few bumbs and drew blood. I got upset with my chin hair and went ATG again for BBS. They will conform or there will be blood every shave. I guess that is what a pandemic will do to a person.

Have a great Sunday Cadre!

WARNING: LONG POST

After @bentheduck used Red Cabin in the Woods by HCSC, which is a artisan located in Lubbock, TX, I had to check them out. I looked up the scent profiles of the soaps they had available and Red Cabin in the Woods and Aegyptus really stood out to me. Since Aegyptus hadn't been talked about yet on the forum I figured I would use that one first.
I used the same set up that I used when I tested out ETHOS, CBL, SV, PAA, and Nuavia Rossa. I used the same procedure from those tests and this is what I found:
Strength of Scent- 4.5/5.0 This soap was very strong off of the puck, but the scent calmed down a bit once I started lathering. The scent is very nice. I get clear whiffs of the Leather, Sandalwood, and Tonka. Which to me that really reminded me of incense, which could be the musk too. When I smelled the aftershave it immediately took me back to Palm Sunday Mass.
Ease of Lather- 4.5/5.0 This soap does require a bit more water, but it explodes in creamy slick lather. It took 5.0 mL of water and two brush dips.
Cushion- 5.0/5.0 The cushion on all three passes were great. Zero blade feel and very protective throughout the shave.
Slickness- 4.5/5.0 This soap was very slick, but I did not feel like it was quite as slick as CBL. It reminded me a lot of ETHOS's soaps.
Residual Slickness- 5.0/5.0 This soap's residual slickness is up there with the best of them. Just a rinse and it is as slick as CBL or SV.
Post-Shave Feel- 5.0/5.0 This soap really surprised me on its post shave feel. After my post shave lather I rinsed and waited 5 minutes and my face felt great! It felt soft and moisturized like I had just put lotion on.

All in all it was a great shave and it scored 28.5/30.0 which is what I would consider an elite soap. This is a relatively new artisan, but HCSC has obviously done their research and consulted some professionals because their soap was incredible. I would highly recommend this soap if you are looking to branch out to another artisan.

Also I was not able to take a picture because I forgot, but as always everything used during the shave was purchased by me with the exception of the brush which was made and PIF'd by Eric.

Thanks for reading Cadre, and I hope y'all have a great day!

Your phone ate it, it's cool. :ROFLMAO: Good review, Pat. Thanks for taking the time to write it up.
Thanks Ben, and no problem!

Good review Pat! With you and @bentheduck recommending it, I may have to check it out. Man, I thought I had settled on my rotation.
I can send you a sample Tim, and also I looked up the scent notes and it does have Patchouli in it and I think that is where some of the incense smell is coming from.
