Pre-shave: Hot Shower & Jack Black's Face Buff
Razor: Dbl Duck 11/16
Blade:
Brush:
AP Shave Co. Ruby SynBad
Bowl: PAA Scuttle
Soap: ETHOS GE- Dragonsbeard
Aftershave: Osma Alum & Stirling Tea Tree, Witch Hazel, Aloe splash & ETHOS GE SFS- Dragonsbeard
Moisturizer: CeraVe Moisturizing Cream

Results:

Went with my all time favorite scent for my shave this morning because yesterday was a bummer of a day. So hopefully this is a great start to a great day...
Straight shave with the Dbl Duck went decent. I need to figure out why my chin is nearly impossible to shave without tugging. The alum hardly gives me feedback on my cheeks, but the chin always gets lit up. I felt the soap had great slickness to it especially when hydrated while on my face, but the chin just won't shave nicely. Still a great shave because everything else went smoothly and the scent is awesome.

Homefront:

So little man was born at 5 pounds 3 ounces and left the hospital at 4 pounds 13 ounces. In 2 ½ weeks he has gained 25 ounces. He is getting chunky which my wife and I are happy about. Even the pediatrician was impressed with him. Other than that life is going good!

Thanks for reading Cadre and I hope y'all have a great Tuesday!
the chin is kind of a jerk when you are learning a SR. the extreme angles and the general direction of hair growth make for a tough combo. the key for me at least was very short strokes. still one of the easiest places to get some post shave irritation.

Glad to hear the little one is doing well!

Great update Pat!

I’ll agree with Kyle, the chin was a pretty tough spot when I was learning too. Don’t be afraid to experiment with your strokes, as long as you’re exercising care, there’s no wrong way to do it!

Thanks Chris! Honestly I'm starting to wonder if it is my stropping. I've been thinking about it all day and I know my technique was good today and I kept my face and lather hydrated throughout the shave. I am thinking it is either my stropping or the razor isn't shave ready. I'll inspect my strop when I get home and see if it needs to be conditioned.

Pat
Map the growth on the chin and do only WTG passes for a bit until the irritation subsided then ease into a ATG and XTG that way you can isolate which pass is causing the problems, it is also one area that can exacurbate with ingrowns, but as stated above short methodical strokes you are doing great!

Thanks Dave I will do that!

Pre-shave: Hot Shower & Jack Black's Face Buff
Razor: Occam OREN 2 dot plate
Blade: Feather ProGuard (1)
Brush: Eric's AoG PIF #5
Bowl: PAA Scuttle
Soap: A&E- Teritus
Aftershave: Osma Alum & Stirling Tea Tree, Witch Hazel, Aloe splash & Maggard- Tobacco and Leather splash
Moisturizer: CeraVe Moisturizing Cream

As I am sure y'all can tell the OREN came two days early! It arrived yesterday while I was at work and I could hardly wait to use it. Yesterday I took the day off to give my chin a little extra healing time and I am happy I did because I got to test the OREN on 48 hours of growth. It came with the 2 dot head on it and I did not feel like changing it so that is the one I went with. This was the first time I have used a SE razor and I have to say I was very impressed with it. The handle at first glance was a little wonky and I must admit that when I took it out of the box I thought it may be too uncomfortable. However, once I started shaving I hardly noticed the handle. The only thing I would improve about the handle is adding texture to it to give it a little more grip. The shave itself was pretty fantastic. The OREN took off the initial scruff without any problems on my WTG pass. Even my chin hair was no match for it. Then I went with two XTG passes and I can comfortably say this is a DFS+ shave and I am happy. The biggest surprise was the post shave. I did my normal post shave lather and as I was cleaning up I could feel a little burning on my usual problem areas. But then I used my alum and there wasn't any sting! I was pretty surprised and so much so that I went in the bedroom and told my wife. (I don't think she cares though.)
The soap I used was Teritus by A&E. I have the sample of it and I wanted to revisit it because my first use with it was a little mixed. My first pass was rough, but passes two and three were great. This time all three passes were great. I hydrated the "you know what" out of this soap and it became very slick and had nice protection too. Definitely on the WTB list now.

All in all the shave was wonderful and it was a great way to start the day! Also starting today I figured I would start keeping a better record of my shaves so that is why under the journal number it says I have only used an SE. Thanks for reading Cadre and sorry I rambled a little bit today. Hope y'all have a great Thursday!

Welcome to the wonderful world of AC SEs! It’s a mighty tempting rabbit hole...and there’s much better (IMO) than the OREN if you can believe it!
