Doug's Journal of Shaving Happiness v2.0

Happy belated birthday! I love the stats you put at the top of your entries! Very cool. Glad you got to spend some time with your friend. So how would you describe Floris #89? Is it comparable to anything?
Thank you!

The Floris No. 89 has that old-school gentleman's cologne/barbershop style of scent. I don't have a good comparison, but it probably bears a little similarity to something like Dior Eau Sauvage or other similarly old-school gentleman's fragrances. I suggest picking up a sample.

I had almost forgotten what a painless shave can be like. Today's shave was marvelous. No irritation in two passes to BBS. The lather was great. Speick-tember & Single Edge September are off to a good start.

Gear
This was my first time ever using a Speick stick and Speick AS. The AS is really great stuff. It feels awesome on my skin. The soap, however, is the real star. I am quite impressed with how it performs. I might even call it Elite Tier, but we will see how I am feeling a few more shaves in. But, on day 1, I am super impressed.

The Parker 3-band Pure from @jbreakfield's PIF is probably the best Pure Badger brush that I have ever used. I won't call it soft, because there is a good deal of scritch to it, but I will say it is probably the softest Pure knot that I have encountered. It did a great job face lathering the Speick stick today. I think it will get a few more uses while I am cleaning/conditioning the knot in my TSC SV brush, which I started last night.

Burberry is definitely my favorite designer house. They make some really excellent fragrances. They aren't the highest end, or the most inventive, but they are very high quality and well made. Burberry Touch is an excellent fragrance. I am really enjoying it today.

Other Thoughts
Back to work and feeling good. It is amazing what a freshly shaven face will do to one's outlook on the day. The shave really gets my day started right and I definitely feel different on those days that I don't shave. It has also been nice having several 4-day work weeks in a row.

The extended birthday weekend was a good thing.

Overview
Great shave, but not as great as yesterday

SOTD Pics

Shave Quality
There was some irritation during the shave today. Perhaps I should consider dropping to an every-other-day shave routine? We'll see what tomorrow's is like. I love daily shaving and it would suck to have to change, but that is maybe what my face needs.

Gear
Same shave setup as yesterday. Still good.

Tommy Bahama St. Kitts is good. It is a citrus aromatic with some aquatic and woody notes. There are much better offerings in this area, but this one is good for everyday casual wear.

Other Thoughts
Putting in another long day today and I am still behind for the week.

Shave Quality
I am not a face lathering kind of shaver normally, so I haven't dialed the lather in yet. The first pass was way too dry. It was still decently slick. The second pass was much better. I need to get more water in earlier on. The soap is great, however.

Gear
Loving the Speick stick. The matching AS is very nice too.

The SV brush is really soft. It is not as soft as some of my synthetics, but it is really nice.

Perry Ellis 360 Red is really, really good. Inexpensive and quite enjoyable. Also, it is still going strong at the end of the day.

Other Thoughts
Friday was nice and low key. Happy to have a 3 day weekend.

Shave Quality
I think I am getting the hang of face lathering. The first pass was definitely wet enough. I have to say that I am not a fan. I really like bowl lathering. I suppose I could smash the Speick stick into a container, or I could try smearing some into a bowl, or on to the brush then into the bowl, to see if I like the results better. But, I am getting really nice results with the stick on my face, even if the process of face lathering is less enjoyable. The razor left me DFS-ish.

Gear
The vintage blade was less rough than a modern Personna but still a bit rough and felt like it was tugging a bit. Maybe shave number two will be better.

I am enjoying the SV brush. It feels very nice on my face. With proper hydration it is equal to my synthetics in softness and performance. I have to give it several more uses to break in, but so far my synthetic synthetic brushes are as good or better.

Summer Vibez by Authenticity Perfumes is really good stuff. It opens up a bit pineapple-y. I also got some hints of banana early on, but that could have been the hump and vetiver contributing earthy notes. It is a very pleasant fragrance.

Other Thoughts
Watching Lucifer on Netflix. It is an interesting show. There are a few plot holes, but it is entertaining.

It was a good shave. Let's call it DFS+ in two passes. There were a couple small rough spots afterwards with a tiny bit of irritation, but less than yesterday.

Gear
The handle of this brush is very nice. It is quite comfortable to hold.

Other Thoughts
It was a decent day.

A great dahve

Shave Quality
The shave was almost full BBS after two passes. There was a bit of my neck that was not quite smooth. Overall it was a really great shave. A light touch with the razor was all it took. The lather was decent. I loaded the brush from the stick and used the bowl to help build it. The lather was easily as good as face lathering with the brush.

Gear
The Injector with light pressure worked well.

The lather bowl worked well.

Other Thoughts
I like three day weekends.

Shave Quality
The shave was almost BBS. There is a tiny bit of tenderness left afterwards, but that should go away soon. I am very pleased with the results.

Gear
The vintage Personna is turning into a decent blade. I think it is still a little rougher than the Chinese Schicks, but it will do in a pinch.

The BHPC Blaze is cheap and good.

Other Thoughts

Great shave, great fragrance

SOTD Pics

Shave Quality
Went a little faster today and got great results. I am calling it BBS due to a smooth neck and face. There is a little bit of tenderness, but that is normal for my sensitive skin. The lather was good, but too dry on the first pass. I am not a fan of this face lathering thing.

Gear
All good on the shave gear.

Scuderia Ferrari Forte. An Oriental style fragrance that is spicy plum up front. Kind synthetic, but really enjoyable.

Other Thoughts
Getting lots of Instagram love today. Unexpected, but nice.
