Doug's Journal of Shaving Happiness v2.0

Now that is really surprising Doug because the Body Shop is super big on making irritation free products. I have a newer and older tub of the Maca Root stuff along with the AS gel and face protector and it is all really good for me anyway. Can't be the glycerin....maybe the cream turned on ya...?????
That's really bizarre since you've been using it. My vote is the wife playing a practical joke.
Sounds like a good plan. Enjoy your shaves!
It is bizarre. I have been getting more irritation lately with this cream than I was with the previous soap. I am kinda clueless on this. I suppose there could have been some sort of residue in the brush I used today from something previous, but I always rinse my brushes until the water runs clear after the shave. Maybe it is just bad razor burn since this cream isn't the best performer in the world? The burn did last for over an hour after the shave. But, I did use the Maca Root ASB post shave. I don't think it was the blade or the razor.

I am going to shave with a different soap and aftershave tomorrow but keep everything else the same and see what happens.

I'd look to the Astra SP as the culprit...some days I have a good time with them and other times not. Might be simply the combo of soap and consistency with the Astra didn't go this time...

Shave Quality
A vastly improved shave today only changing the cream and AS. The shave was BBS-. There was still a little bit of heat in my face afterwards. I think it was just really bad razor burn yesterday. The feel that I had after the shave was similar to yesterday, but so much less bad. It was a superior shave.

Gear
Proraso is amazingly good shaving cream. So much better than the Maca Root, which even with added glycerin, lacks cushion and protection. I think I know what to do.

Calvin Klein Eternity for Men is a classic aromatic fougere. It is the 1990s in a bottle. This fragrance was everywhere in the 90s. I think it is still good today, even if the younger crowd doesn't.

Other Thoughts
Had a do nothing day. I really need to make progress on the house tomorrow and Sunday. My parents will be here on the 21st.

Thank you for reading and commenting on my journal. I hope you have a great day and stellar shaves, Cadre.

The shave would have been better with a better cream. The KMF helped some, but the lather would have been better with more KMF and less Maca Root I think. There was significant and lasting razor burn today. Part of that was the fact that my edge on the GD66 isn't the greatest. I believe part of it was the cream. I am going to be very glad when this one is gone.

Gear
Back to the stones with the GD66.

The WCS Latigo strop is really nice. I like the heavier draw that it has compared to my Tony Miller.

What more can I say about this cream? I used to really like it, now it doesn't work well. I am really not going to miss it when it is gone.

The Azzaro Fun is very nice stuff. It is blood orange with rhubarb and some woods. Mainly what I get is the blood orange. It is a really pleasant summer scent that has really poor longevity. As long as you don't mind spraying a ton, you will enjoy it.

Other Thoughts
I should have gotten more cleaning done today, but I got enough done to feel accomplished.

Today's shave was enlightening

Except for the hard touchdown (yes, you can have them with safety razors) it was a really good shave. There was a slight tingle in my mustache area after I applied the lather for the first pass. I guess we will see if that happens again. The shave was BBS- since there is one area that is still a bit rough. My skin feels soft and there wasn't too much residual irritation.

Gear
Today's shave convinced me to bin the Maca Root cream. I am going to keep the ASB, however. Even with the addition of some KMF it wasn't giving me the cushion and protection that my skin needs. I guess I will try to finish out the month with the SV. Then I will be doing Speick-tember. We will see if I can kill a Speick shave stick in a month.

The General is still one of the best SEs that I have used.

Loving the English Fern.

Other Thoughts
Feeling achy today, but the house is in much better shape. It still needs work, however, but it is probably good enough for now.

Shave Quality
Today's shave was excellent. I used a bunch of water and got a thinner lather that would have been good for straight shaving. It was more than slick enough for The General to get me to BBS with almost no irritation. The shave was fantastic. There were no tingles from the shave soap that I could detect, so that is a good sign. It is certainly heads and tails above the Maca Root cream. Also, I think my technique is a bit different now than when I first tried the SV, which is helping. My skin is kinda dry and definitely sensitive, and getting more sensitive as I get older it seems. (I am sure the eczema doesn't help.) Shaving has been a bit of a challenge for me lately. It feels like my skin is changing as I lose weight. This will probably be a good thing in the long run, but it is causing me to question everything about my shaves.

Gear
Excellent performance from the SV today and no signs of allergic reaction. I am happy. It really works well with The General and a Feather Pro AC blade.

Vince Camuto Homme is good stuff. Definitely a summer scent.

Other Thoughts
Looking forward to Speick-tember and Tabac-tober! I have actually never used a Speick stick or the AS before.

Another good one. Am I on a roll?

Shave Quality
I did a bit too much buffing today, but that didn't seem to matter too much. There was feedback from the alum block, but it wasn't outrageous. An hour later and my skin is feeling great. The shave is BBS. My previous impression of the SV Felce Aromatica appears to have been wrong so far. We will see what it is like after a few more days of solid use.

Gear
The SV is producing great lather. I am loading heavily and using a bunch of water. The results are speaking for themselves so far. I hope that this continues.

I have been sticking with The General because it is one of the best razors that I own. I might switch out to something different tomorrow, however.

A&F First Instinct Extreme is a great fougere. The note of star fruit makes it a bit more youthful than many fougeres, but it is really working for me today. I definitely recommend picking this one up.

Other Thoughts
I can't wait for my new glasses to arrive.

The razor felt rough on my face today, but there is no felt razor burn, unless I am touching my neck. This is a vast improvement over the Maca Root since the irritation was radiating off my skin after a few of those shaves. The SV is giving me much better results. BBS today.

Gear
The SV is great.

The Prismatic razor was aggressive and a bit rough, at least with today's blade. Perhaps my angle was off a little, or something.

Loving the Versace Eros. This is a fabulous fragrance.

Other Thoughts
Beating my head against a project at work and making little progress. Grr.

I had something similar earlier this summer. I think it was triggered by face lathering with a synth bush, my skin hates them. Then I just remained sensitive (ok NurseDave, there’s your joke opening.) But some soaps that had been long time favorites also started giving me irritation out of nowhere.

The cure, for me, was to go back to bowl lathering less stuff rubbing on my face I guess was what was needed.

Today was a little scrape-y during the shave. It was still really good, however. The shave is BBS. My neck was a little tender afterwards, but it is much better now. Good stuff on a Friday off.

The Mergress goes well with the SV but not so good with the Ladas blade. This blade used to be much better on my face. It has been disappointing this time around.
