Thanks guys...I'm still working out some tweaks in a revised scoring metric. I have a couple of options. Today's scoring is close to what I want to achieve, but it does mix in some measures that aren't really "performance" related (packaging, value for example). So what I might do is a "performance" rating and a preference rating, or using the older chart, but revising the scores based on a 20 point scoring system and eliminating the "stability" score, rolling it up into the total lather score.

BTW, congrats on 50 subscribers. Other than your rugged movie start good looks, what are you doing to promote your channel?

Forgive me, I am an investment manager, "value" is something I spend my days trying to quantify and understand. In its simplest terms a shave soaps "value" is about price per experience ...more of a ratio than a definitive number. If I were trying to provide a numeric representation of the "value" of a shave soap I might start by getting an average of the other 9 categories (the experience) then adjusting that value according to a given baseline. A simple adjustment might just be the price per ounce MINUS the baseline value.

Example:
Using the scoring for CBL today...
Total score for the first 9 categories =76
The experience score would be 76/9=8.4
Price per ounce of CBL soap $18.50/4= $4.63
Adjustment (assume $1.50 minimum price/ounce) $4.63-$1.50=3.13

8.4-(4.63-1.50)=5.27 (this would make CBL soap's total score 81)

If the experience were better (higher)... 9.5-(4.63-1.50)=6.37
If the price were lower... 8.4-(3.5-1.50)=6.4
If experience were greater and price lower ... 9.5-(3.50-1.50)=7.5

Thanks Dave. I'm not doing anything other than posting the videos, and using the tagging option embedded within the upload page to increase search term hits when people look for things on Youtube.

Speed shaving. Nice review Josh

Thank you Dave!

Outstanding as usual. I always enjoy our vids.

Thanks Rich!

Excellent break down on the possible ways that metric can be utilized, Chris. The price per oz is extremely simple and rudimentary. I think price per usage would be a better metric to use, but with limited time to take accurate measurements, it's not something that I can honestly afford at the moment. Another point which was brought up in a comment on my Youtube channel was that people are willing to pay a premium for soaps which utilize a higher grade of ingredients, which yours most definitely does. A simple price per oz does not take that into account. This is why I am still looking to tweak the measurement scale to something that will more accurately depict what someone can expect from a soap. Splitting it into two separate measurements, one objective (how a soap performs) as well as a more subjective scale (scent preference, strength of scent, perceived value, packaging/presentation, etc..) might be one way. Or going back to something similar that I did before with five categories rated from 1-20 and being more critical.

Just a few things that are percolating in my noggin...

Just when you've gone and redone your scale.... go ahead and redo it all over again!

For me it's more simple:

So there's no Dis-Like? Just a "like less than the rest"?

Great final review Josh! Glad you were able to revise your scoring system. I won’t say it was bad that the Icarus base scored perfectly, but you are right in that it seemed most things scored rather high; but then you do use a lot of quality products and sometimes we just love something for no real reason.

Nice video. My concern on that scent would be if it is too strong on the cherry scent. Can you go into the scent a tad bit more?
