Straight Razor Shave #245
Razor: Allegany Instrument Corp. WP
Brush: Paladin Chief 26mm Brair
Soap: Declaration Grooming / Chatillon Lux La Forêt de Liguest
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Booster Barber Shop Classic Oriental Spice After Save Lotion

To kick off the week I choose another new to me scent. This is a collaboration between Declaration Grooming and Chatillon Lux. The scent is a deep dark fougere scent. Very woodsy, not the normal greener fougere. This is the scent from deep in the forest. I don't really pick out any individual notes, but I do like the scent. Looks like this is no longer made at this time. Strength of scent in the tub is a 2.5 of 5 and a 3.5 lathered. No problem at all whipping up a great lather with the Paladin Chief.

3 passes and some clean up with the AIC. A couple of small weepers and just a tad bit of alum sting. BBS shave.

Finished with the Booster Oriental Spice. This a very nice Oriental spice type scent. I detect just a little bit of cinnamon in the scent, maybe some nutmeg and cedar too. It's nice clean scent with just a hit of powder. I like it!

Setup 1-14-2019

Well last Friday I thought I had chipped or cracked a filling while munching on some popcorn. The pain wasn't too bad so I just waited till Monday to call my dentist. Well guess what? I managed to crack my tooth to the root!! It had to be extracted. My dentist numbed me up good. The smaller cracked part came out easy. The rest of the tooth didn't want to leave its home at all. About 30 minutes or so later, it finally came out. My dentist had sweat on his brow and I had sweat on my upper lip. It wasn't a painful just became very, very, uncomfortable after about 10 minutes or so. He gave me a prescription for some pain pills and strongly suggested I get them. I did. I have taken a lot of pain pills in my life, but this didn't knock me out almost the opposite. They did relieve the pain, but I didn't get any sleep Monday night, and was still in pain Monday morning, so I called in took the day off, and took another pill and went back to bed about 5:00am. I did manage to sleep some this time and woke up about 11:30am. I was able to eat solid food if I avoided the area Wednesday night. It's still a little tender, but much better.

Straight Razor Shave #246
Razor: Allegany Instrument Corp. WP
Brush: RazoRock Plissoft Disruptor Synthetic
Soap: Oz Shaving Co. Foxville
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Oz Shaving Co Foxville Post Shave Tonic

This soap performed as expected and inline with the other Oz Shaving Co samples that I've used so far. This is a great performing soap. According to their website:
"It has a dark base of oak and clove, warm mid-notes of pepper and allspice, and top notes of lime and anise." I can't really state it any better than that. I do like the scent. The strength of scent is a good 2.5 of 5 from the sample and a 3 of 5 lathered.

3 passes and some cleanup with the AIC. Did get on slight weeper. No alum sting to mention. A nice BBS shave.

Finished with the matching Tonic. The scent is a dead on match and the face feel is excellent. I get about 3 to 4 hours longevity.

FYI: Oz Shaving Co. has this soap and tonic on sell now for about $22.50 for the pair, plus shipping.

Straight Razor Shave #247
Razor: Klas Tornblom Eskilstuna
Brush: Simpson Duke 3 in Pure Badger
Soap: RazoRock What The Puck Lime Burst
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Booster Barber Shop Classic Oriental Spice After Save Lotion
Cologne: Florida Water Cologne

So since I wanted to use the Booster Iced Lime After Shave I choose the What The Puck Lime Burst soap. Typically great RazoRock performance as expected. This is a very nice lime scent. More of a real lime that a soda lime.

3 passes and some cleanup with the Klas and I'm BBS with no nicks, weepers, or alum sting to speak of.

The Booster After Shave performed as expected. Not sure what the Iced part is, there is no menthol or cooling effect. The scent is more of soda/candy lime scent but it is still nice.

Razor: Rockwell 6S (R4 Plate)
Blade: PolSilver Super Iridium
Brush: Saponificio Varesino SV 2.0 Shaving Brush in Ebony Wood
Soap: Geo F. Trumper Eucris
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Paladin Shaving Aftershave Balm
Cologne: Geo F. Trumper Eucris EdT

I ran across this soap while looking for another one and realized it had been a while since I had used it. I really didn't want to have to fight this "water proof" soap today, or any other day, but I love this scent and today was a rainy and turning colder, dreary day so this was a perfect scent for me today. The scent is a dark musky, mossy, sandalwood, with some honey and pepper spice, with a hint of jasmine and what I'm told is blackcurrant. Strength of scent is a 2 of 5 on the puck and a 2.5 to 3 lathered. I have a hard time getting a good lather out of this soap. I did finally manage to get a usable lather. This is one of those soaps that the scent makes up for the performance.

I new I wasn't going to be a straight razor mood after fighting the soap. I haven't used the Rockwell 6S in a while, so I choose. Even with the lackluster performance of the soap, the 6S delivered a very nice BBS+ shave with no nicks or weepers and just a barley noticeable alum sting on the chin, which had a patch of very stubborn stubble today.

Did the "Eucris Shake" and put a few drops into the Paladin Balm. This balm emulsifies very well and is a great performer. I used it alot to mix colognes with that I don't have a matching after shave for. Some more shaking and a few drops on the pluse points of the EdT and I'm good to go!

Good shaves Craig! Sorry about the tooth, ouch!

So, one fine member here has proclaimed that their SV brush is preferable to their Paladins. What’s your take?

Thanks Chris! Ohhhh that is a tough question. Both are excellent brushes and top performers! I would be hard pressed to choose one over the other really! Both have their pluses and minuses, compared to each other. Both release the lather and have great flow. Both have great backbone. I'd say the Paladin has just a tad more scritch, and the SV is a little softer. I really can emphasize enough that this difference is minimal.

Awesome!

Sorry to hear about the tooth Craig! That definitely does not sound fun! I am huge fan of the Foxville soap and scent...it's definitely a winner for me! I think I have a tiny bit of Eucris EdT somewhere. I really like the scent and have no idea why I don't have a full sized bottle. After all...if it's good enough for James Bond...it should be good enough for us all! Great shaves this week!

Some great shaves in there, Craig. I love the scent of Eucris! It was one of the first full fragrance bottles I bought after I started traditional wet shaving, and it is downright fantastic. I have heard that the soap is not the best in terms of latherability and performance. I have a tube of the cream, and it is passable.

Hope the pain heals up. I had one like that I thought the dentist was going to lift me out of the chair pulling. He finally used a drill to cut it in pieces and remove slivers at a time.......

Mercy, that tooth experience is enough to set the reader on edge!
Not how I had planed to spend the next 36 hours or so for sure!

Thanks Dave! Yeah he was about to that point, one of the problems was the "remaining" tooth kept splintering off.

Straight Razor Shave #248
Razor: Harvard Cutlery Co. Pearlette
Brush: Wolf Whiskers Bishop "Party on Bourbon Street" with Elite Razor 28mm Manchurian White Knot
Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Booster Barber Shop Classic Polar Ice After Save Lotion
Cologne: Giorgio Armani Acqua Di Gio Pour Homme EdT

Whipped up a great lather with the Wolf Whiskers. Mitchell's is a really great preforming soap! Excellent slickness, great cushion/glide, great residual slickness, and no stability issues. It can be a little finicky to lather, but I had no issues today.

Haven't used the Pearlette in a while and it delivered an okay shave today. This blade has a slight smile and it really does need a trip back to the stones, but I'm just no ready to attempt a rolling X stroke yet. Still was able to get a BBS- shave in 3 passes and some cleanup with just a few weepers and little to no alum sting.

A good splash of the "Polar Ice" to finish the shave. This scent is very Aqua Velva/Floid Blue like. Not to put them in the same class, but it does remind me of both in some ways. I like the scent and the face fell is great! This one does have just a slight menthol effect to it.

A few vasilis of the Acqua Di Gio and I'm good to go!

Straight Razor Shave #249
Razor: Buck Salient #138 of 250
Brush: Stirling Soap Co. Finest Badger Shave Brush - 26mm
Soap: Black Ship Grooming Co. Davy Jones
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Black Ship Grooming Co. Davy Jones Aftershave Splash
Cologne: Olivina Men Bourbon and Cedar Cologne

I was in a bourbon kind of mood today, so I went with a bourbon scented shave. Black Ship Grooming Co. makes a great performing soap. This soap is easy to lather and the lather has great performance in all areas. The strength of scent is a 2.5 of 5 in the tub and lathers a 3.5 of 5. I get some bourbon, vanilla, woody notes, and a hint of amber and moss. Very nice scent!

3 passes and some cleanup with the Buck and aside from a slight Mr. M visit on the left law line, a great shave. BBS+ results even with the nick. Only real alum sting was on the nick and lower neck.

Finished with the matching aftershave. The scent is a dead on match to the soap. Strength of scent is a 3 of 5 and I get a good 4 to 5 hours longevity. Paired it with the Bourbon Cedar Cologne. A very nice pairing indeed! The scent of the cologne is just as named, bourbon and cedar. Nice! 4 of 5 strength of scent and about 6 to 7 hours longevity.

Soap: Oz Shaving Co. Polychrome
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Oz Shaving Co. Polychrome Post-Shave Tonic
Cologne: Pinaud Clubman Citrus Musk Cologne

What a wonderful scent. This soap's scent is according to Oz's website: "...a citrus and musk blend with bright and fresh top notes like lime and Italian lemon, mid notes of neroli, and jasmine, and musky base paired with oakmoss." I do like this scent. The TSC brush whipped up a lather without any issues. Same great performance as I've come to expect from these samples. Smeared some in the bottom of the scuttle dribbled a little water on it and let it bloom for a bout 10 to 15 mins.

3 passes and some cleanup with the Twinworks. Aside from removing the scab on yesterday's Mr. M. visit, no nicks or weepers. Just a very little bit of alum sting. A nice BBS+ shave.

Finished with the matching scent Tonic. Same great performance as the other samples from Oz. Now what to pair a citrus musk scent with? Duh. Pinaud Clubman Citrus Mus
k. A very nice pairing for sure!

Soap: Speick Shave Stick
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Speick After Shave Lotion
Cologne: Penhaligon's Endymion EdT

Was inspired to use Speick today. Shave sticks never cease to amaze me. You wet your face, wet this stick, and rub on your beard. You really can't see much there, but then just as soon as you touch your damp brush to it, BOOM lather. Love the scent of Speick. It did have to grow on me. The 1st time I used it, I didn't like or dislike it. The performance is great!

Decided to go with a DE razor today. The Mentor/MR5 combo, along with the PolSilver blade delivered an excellent shave. 3 passes and some clean up. BBS+ Just one teeny tiny weeper, like a pin head on a stubborn patch on my chin. No alum sting even on the weeper! Weird! I was expecting some there and on the chin in general.

A good splash of the Speick aftershave. This is a great after shave, the face feel is excellent. The strength of scent is a 2 of 5 and fades within a couple of hours on me. A few vasilis of the Endymion. Yeah I'm smooth faced and smelling great!

Razor: Union Razor Cutlery Co.
Brush: Stirling Soap Co Synthetic 2-Band 24mm
Soap: Humphreys Handmade Makin Bacon Pancakes Soap
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Floïd Black After Shave Lotion

I ran across this maker on Etsy some time back and this scent intrigued me for some reason, so I ordered it. I haven't used it in a while, so I selected it for today's shave. This is one of those scents and you just want to lick the lather as you are shaving. To me the scent is not so much bacon, but it sure it maple syrup and pancakes. The strength of scent is a 2.5 of 5 on the puck and 3.5 lathered. For what appears to be a melt and pour soap, it actually performs well. Easy to lather, good slickness, glide/cushion, residual slickness, and no stability issues.

3 passes and some clean up with Grandad's Union Razor and I'm BBS with a little bit of alum sting on the chin and lower neck.

Finished up with a good splash of the Floïd Black. I do love the scent of this after shave! And it is a great performer also both face feel and longevity. I get a good 5 to 6 hours. The scent notes I can detect are citrus, vanilla, woodsy, musk, amber, and I think some patchouli.

Setup 1-28-2019

Well they had predicted 1 to 3 inches of now for my area last night, and if you are from the south you know that is a lot and as per the norm they shut down where I work. Guess what, no snow, not even a flake. So even if I didn't want to have it I got a day off, so another vacation leave day that I had to take, but didn't want to. So no shave Tuesday.

Soap: De Vergulde Hand Shaving Soap

After Shave: Suavecitio Premium Blends Black Amber Aftershave
Cologne: Jimmy Choo Man Intense EdT

This soap was mentioned on a face book group. I had never heard of this soap before, but it appears to be, from what I can find, one of the oldest branded soaps in the wet shaving world. This brand dates back over 460 years. It was founded in Amsterdam in 1554. Now whether or not this is the same formula as the original soap, I have no idea. The scent of this soap to me is mainly well soap, with just a slight citrus note. Performance wise this soap performs great. I used the SV method and whipped up a great lather with ease. Great slickness, good glide/cushion, good residual slickness, and no stability issues.

3 passes and a little clean up and I'm BBS. One slight weeper that I think was a small bump that had showed up. No alum sting to speak of.

A good splash of the Black Amber Aftershave and the a few spritzes of the Jimmy Choo and I'm good to go!

As I was contemplating what to select for today's shave, I thought to myself, "Hey it's the 1st day of February, so F for February, F for Fine, yeah why not. So I kicked off this month with a "Fine Shave". The soap produced the typically great lather that Fine Accoutrements is know for. The scent is their take on Yves Saint Laurent's Rive Gauche Pour Homme (2003). It is a pretty good match IMHO. The scent is an Aromatic Fougere and I do like it! The strength of scent on the soap is a 1.5 of 5 and lathered maybe a 2, but it does last for the entire shave.

I wasn't in straight mood, so I selected the Tech. What a great shaving razor, even if it's a mild shaver. 3 passes and some clean up and I'm BBS+ with no nicks, weepers, or alum sting. An excellent shave!

A good splash of the after shave and my face feels awesome. Then some spritzes of the EdT and I'm smelling good. The after shave and EdT scents are dead on matches to the soap. I get about 3 to 4 hours longevity from the after shave and 7 to 8 hours from the EdT.

Continuing with the "F for February" theme, I chose another Fine soap for today. Platinum is their take on Creed Aventus. It's a very nice scent. I do like it! Typically great performance from the soap as expected.

3 passes and just a little clean up with the Wacker. No nicks or weepers and just a little above noticeable alum sting on the neck. A very nice BBS shave.

Finished with the matching AS and EdT. Yeah I'm smelling great!
