Clyde72's Shaving Journal

Great catch-up post Craig, as per usual! Surprising that the Ambition soap was so weakly scented.
Thanks Josh! Yeah surprised me too!
Nice shaves Craig. Thursday must have been your Aretha Franklin Tribute Shave
Thanks Dave! Yeah I guess so, really didn't think about that, just wanted to use the Splash.
Loving your pics and some good shaves too!

Make sure you get in on my College Football Pickem PIF!
Thanks Don! I just posted my choices.
Great stuff Craig! Enjoy the staycation and good hunting at the flea market!
Thanks Tim!

For one reason or another this was this 1st shave since Saturday.

Also I'm way behind on reading journals. I'm going to work on that over the next few days!

Straight Razor Shave #198

Pre Shave: Urth Face Wash and Scrub
Razor: Clyde72 Twinworks 50¾
Brush: Maggard Razors 24mm Black & White Synthetic Shaving Brush, Black Handle
Soap: Soap Commander Ambition
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Pitralon Swiss

The soap today was the August limited edtion Soap Commander release, "Ambition" supposed to be Sandalwood, Verbena, and Citrus. Well this is the weakest smelling scented shaving soap that I've ever used. I really didn't smell anything but soap, and so far I've let 7 other people smell it and they all agree too, just smells like soap. Disappointing! Other than that the performance was typical great SC performance.

3 passes with the Twinworks and some touch up on the chin, a couple of weepers and some alum sting on the neck and chin, this yielded a BBS- shave overall.

Finished with the Pitralon.

Today was my Friday for this week. I'm taking off till next Wednesday. Just planning on relaxing and hitting the big flea market this weekend. Also I'm planning on attending a new event to me, this Saturday. I'll report back afterwards on it. For now it'll stay a secret.

Straight Razor Shave #199

Pre Shave: Bull Dog Original Face Wash
Razor: Clyde72 Twinworks 50¾
Brush: The Shaving Cadre Legacy Brush
Soap: Soap Commander Respect
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Soap Commander Respect Aftershave Splash

Took the Twinworks back to the Trans Ark for a touchup. The edge was a little tuggy the last outing. Much smoother now.
3 passes and I'm BBS with a couple of weeper and one slight love bite from a bad approach angle. Yeah almost 200 straight shaves and I'm still learning. Some alum sting.

Finished with the Soap Commander Aftershave Splash. This is a dead on match to the soap scent. The strength of scent is a good 3.5 of 5. The face feel is great! My face feels nice! Longevity is going on 4 hours now and it's pretty much done. Just a faint trace of something.

Setup 8-30-2018

Enjoying the 1st full day of my staycation. Slept in this morning and watched a few DVR'd shows. Enjoying a cigar or two at the lounge tonight. A little warm on the patio, but nice.

I think that respect photo may be the best one of the week! Beautiful razor and excellent shaves

Bummer that the "Ambition" SOS was so weak. But I'm intrigued with the new aftershave splashes.

Yeah it was disappointing, but I've contacted SC and they want to smell it, so we will see. The 2 splashes that I have are dead on matches to the soaps. The performance is great!

Great to hear they’re going to take care of you!

Straight Razor Shave #200
Pre Shave: Bull Dog Original Face Scrub
Razor: Allegany Instrument Corp. WP 5/8 cira 1920 to 1940
Brush: RazoRock Plissoft Disruptor Synthetic
Soap: Tabac
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse Alum Block and Thayers
After Shave: Dove Men+ Care Post Shave Balm Hydrate+
Cologne: Giorgio Armani Acqua Di Gio Parfumo

1 year, 4 months, 9 days ago was my 1st straight razor shave. This is exact same setup that I used for that shave and my 100 straight shave. Really hard to improve on this software performance wise. Tabac is a excellent performing soap! Some have issues with the scent, but the performance is excellent!

Mr. M of course had to show up today, 2 weepers and somehow I managed to nick the mole on my right cheek. I've only done that maybe a total of 4 times now. Other than that a nice BBS- shave was achieved in 3 passes. Some alum sting on the neck and chin, but it was expected.

Finished with the Balm and the a few vasilis of the Acqua Di Gio. Overall a very nice 200th shave.

Setup 8-31-2018

Enjoying some Basil Hayden Bourbon and a Liga Privada No. 9 cigar on the patio at my cigar lounge. Nice 2nd day of the staycation.

Boom! That’s neat that you know exactly how you started and duplicate it. Great idea.

I guess it was long after I started that y’all started keeping track of Shave numbers. I’m baffled every time I see that in a journal. I have no idea how many DE or straight shaves I have...

But congrats on your milestone, 200 is awesome!

Congrats on the 200 mark. I'm with KJ, I never thought to count shaves with razor types and there is no way I can remember back to 2009 what I did. Maybe that will be my envy in the 7 sins video I do eventually

Well I can go back to the other place I guess and take a look at how many straight shaves I have (there were not many of them) and I guess I could keep up that way...but I have no idea how many shaves in total I have...

Congrats on the 200 Craig and what a way to celebrate...Basil Hayden's is one of my favorite Bourbons!

2 200s on the same day!

Buy a lottery ticket guys!
2 200's haven't seen the other one yet.

That's what a journal can do for you.

I have no idea on DE shaves, but I have logged every straight shave. Thanks KJ!

Congrats on #200, Craig! And Tabac - yes!
Thanks Chris!

Thanks Don! It is a great bourbon!
Congrats on hitting #200 Craig!!!
Thanks Josh!

I finally just said screw it and quit counting shaves. I realized i get much more enjoyment from it when my mind doesn't target a specific number.

9-1-2018
Pre Shave: LAB Series Pro LS All-In-One Cleansing Gel
Razor: Gillette Super Speed Black Handle Flare Tip S4
Blade: PolSilver Super Iridium
Brush: Envy Shave 24mm White Supreme 2 Band Badger Alluminati Classic - Blue
Soap: Soap Commander Honor
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Soap Commander Honor Aftershave Splash
Cologne: Salvatore Ferragamo Acqua Essenziale Colonia Eau De Toilette

Just a nice and easy shave today with the Flare Tip and the Soap Commander. 3 passes and some clean up yielded a nice BBS+ shave. No nicks or weepers. Very little alum sting.

Finished with the matching AS, this is also a dead on scent match. A good 3 of 5 on the scent scale. I put on a frag today so I can't comment on longevity.

A few vasilis of the Salvatore and I'm ready to head out to my 1st ever Wet Shavers meet up.

New adventure for me today. Several weeks ago I learned of a local facebook group, well local if you are in the Southern states called the Dirty South Shavers. I also learned that they were having a Meet Up at Soap Commanders HQ hosted by Darren and Carrie.

I was able to attend this event today and I must say I had a great time! Got to meet some brother and sister wet shavers. We shared stories experiences and a few of us brought software and hardware for others to see and smell. A great time.

One of the highlights of the event was Carrie had selected 4 top notes, 4 mid notes, and 4 base notes fragrances for us to smell. We then got to select 2 top notes, 1 mid note, and 1 base note each and the notes with the most votes were then put into a shaving soap that was made there today and each of us got to carry one of the tubs home with us! All I'm going to say at this time is the winning scent combination is AWESOME! This soap will be available on a limited release on Soap Commanders website soon.

Here are some pictures from the event:

This is the scent selection station.

Here is the wining combination and proof what it was the scent combination that I selected on my ballot.

Carrie packaging the soap.

Our most gracious hosts for the day Darren and Carrie aka Mr. and Mrs. Soap Commander

Oh and of course you know I couldn't go to a soap maker and leave empty handed.

This is what I purchased:

And this is what I either won in the raffle (Dapper Dragon Signature) or was given today. The Renewal was given to me, because I can't smell the Ambition scent. The big cake of bath soap is the Recreation scent. The others are partials that Darren had in a big box and said for us to help ourselves. The 2nd from the left on the bottom is the soap that was made today. The ones that they willl sell will have a normal Soap Commander label. This was just a temp label that Carrie made to put on the ones that we took with us today.

Yes I'd say this was worth missing most of the Alabama Crimson Tide's opening game today!
