Straight Razor Shave #173

Pre Shave: CBL Pre Shave
Razor: Clyde Twinworks 50¾
Brush: TSC Brush
Soap: Soap Commander Connection
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Clubman Reserve Whiskey Woods After Shave Lotion
Cologne: Cremo Bourbon and Oak Cologne

Went with a wood theme today. Wood soap, wood aftershave, wood handle brush and razor, and a wood cologne.
The TSC Brush whipped up a great lather with the Soap Commander Connection with is a woods and berry scent. Kinda more berry than woods but very nice.

3 passes with the Twinworks and some cleanup. Picked up a few weepers, nothing major. Just a tad bit of alum sting. A nice BBS shave.

Finished with a nice splash of the Whiskey Woods ASL and then some spritzes of the Bourbon and Oak cologne. A very nice pairing!

Another bike ride Thursday, really felt the hills.

Unwinding at the cigar lounge tonight as per norm. A good end to the work week!

That’s a sweet mail call you got there. I still need the Opuntia AS.
It took me a bit to see what the red thing was in your pic. Those must be some pretty special knives.

Excellent shave, mail call and ride Craig!!! Love the glass skull...
Thanks Josh!

Thanks Dave! That is a set of Burl Walnut Collection Case Knives. This was a SFO (Special Factory Order) made for Shepherd Hills Cutlery in 1995. There were only 500 sets made and this is number 017.

Very cool

Got a bit behind but I am rather envious of that full set of burl Cases. I can never catch those sets of SFO knives in Case. I’m already in way too deep collection of knives wise that I can’t display them anymore because I don’t have room for all of them and I can’t choose what not to display. Great shaves as well my friend.

Love that Suavecito bottle!
Thanks Don! I thought it was pretty neat also.

TJ I passed that point a long time ago. I don't really collect knives at this point anymore. Just maintain the ones that I have, but always keep an eye out so to speak. Thanks!

Straight Razor Shave #174

Pre Shave: LAB Series PRO LS All-In-One Face Cleansing Gel
Razor: Klas Tornblom Eskilstuna
Brush: Paladin Chief Briar 26mm
Soap: Wet Shaving Products Formula T Olympus
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Wet Shaving Products Olympus Tonic Splash
Cologne: Wet Shaving Products Olympus EdP

Late afternoon shave.

Inaugural shave with the WSP Olympus. I've only used a sample of WSP soap before.

1st of all the scent, LOVE IT! Is it an Creed Aventus Clone? Well it doesn't match the decant that I have (Batch 16A01, which is supposed to be pineapplely according to Creed Aventus Fragheads). It's not as pineapplely, more of a woodsy and smokey scent. SWMBO agrees, but said she liked it. To me it's more musky and smokey than Fine Platinum. Smokier, woodier, and not as fruity as Stirling Executive Man. Much more musky and woody than the Al Haramain L'Aventure. Club de Nuit Intense Man is much more pineapplely/fruity.
But don't get me wrong this is a Great Scent! I've had about 8 or 9 other guys smell it and they all love it too!

The soap strength of scent is a 2 of 5 in the tub and a good 3.5 to 3 lathered. The scent did dissipate some to a 2.5 during the shave. I bloomed the soap using the SV method and dumped the bloom water into the scuttle. As I almost, always do with a new soap, loaded the Paladin for 30 seconds. Then took to the scuttle. Not a very thirsty soap, maybe just a tad more than a teaspoon of water produced enough lather for 3 shaves with ease. The slickness of this soap is a good 4.5 of 5, cushion/glide, WOW 5 of 5! Residual slickness a good 4 of 5. No stability problems and the heat from the scuttle did not effect the lather.

2 passes with the Klas and I consciously choose to use a DE (Gillette Tech with Parker blade) for the ATG pass just to get a better feel for the cushion/glide of this lather. Really this is one of the best I've used.

Ended with some buffing with the DE. A nice BBS+ achieved. Just a tad bit of alum sting in one of the buffing areas.

The Tonic splash is a match scent wise for the soap. The strength is not much, a 2 of 5 on the skin. Not sure of the longevity as I also used the EdP. The face feel was excellent.

A few "glug" spritzes from the fire hose of a nozzle on the EdP and I'm good to go. The EdP strength is a 4 of 5 on the skin with a decent spillage I would say. Longevity was well over 5 hours, I actually forgot to check after that. After 9 hours when I went to bed it wasn't noticeable at all though. Really as others have stated the only thing I can fault the EdP on is the nozzle.

We had another one of our Whiskey Gathering last night. This was the offerings that were brought.

Bike ride and yard work today made for one tired wet shaver tonight!

Great shave and reviews Craig! That WSP description put my AD antenna up! I do love woodsy/Smokey!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Olympus. WSP soaps and scents are not anything I have gotten into yet...YET.

That Basil Hayden's Dark Rye is some VERY good stuff!

Craig your journal always makes me jealous. Mainly because of the spirits!

Also now I need Olympus!

Great mail call the other day, Craig! And I didn't realize that WSP had an "Olympus" scent now - very interesting.
