Straight Razor Shave #170
Pre Shave: Bulldog Original Face Scrub
Razor: CBL Gold Dollar Mod
Brush: Maggard Razors 24mm Black & White Synthetic Shaving Brush, Black Handle
Soap: Haslinger Schafmilch
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: LAB Series Razor Burn Relief
After Shave: Don Draper Green After Shave Lotion
I hadn't used any Haslinger in a while and I wanted to use a pretty much unscented soap today so Schafmilch got the call. Man this soap just rocks! It's easy to load and lather. The performance is top tier for sure. Slickness, cushion, and residual are great! No stability issues at all. The scent is just a nice clean soap smell a 1 of 5 maybe.
3½ passes with the CBL Mod yielded a BBS-. One slight stripe from a bad approach angle on the neck on the ATG pass. The neck whiskers were being really stubborn today and that caused some pretty good alum sting.
To be shave I rubbed in some of the LAB Series and let it dry then applied a healthy splash of the Don Drape After Shave.
From what I've been able to find out, it is or was labeled and sold as Dapper Dan and for some reason relabeled, maybe to appeal to the younger crowd? Don Draper was a character in the now canceled show "Mad Men". Anyhow is made by ALPA, according to the label. The
website
Don-Draper.com just takes you to a facebook page. Seems to be mainly sold in the European countries.
Performance wise, HOLLY Menthol!! This stuff is pretty intense. The cooling effect is pretty quick and lasted a good 15 minutes or longer. The to me is a nice fougere, kinda Bruttish, but different. I don't really pickup any stand out notes. I do like the scent. Face feel was very nice. The strength of scent is 2 of 5 and it only lasted about 2 hours or so. FYI there really isn't a restricter on this bottle so be warned!

Had a My Fathers Cigar Event at the lounge tonight so I picked up a few sticks for the locker. Enjoyed a couple of them with some High West Double Rye and some Wild Turkey 101 bourbon.
On another note. I made a new acquaintance at the lounge a few weeks ago and discovered he was a Brother Wet Shaver. And had recently decided to purchase a straight while visiting an Art of Shaving shop. He didn't remember what the brand was. Said it was kit that had a strop and brush with it. I cautioned him to be sure it was a shave ready edge. Well tonight he brought the kit to show it to me. I've never seen an AOS straight or brush that didn't have the AOS logo on it. This strop, brush (cheap badger I think, really kinda hard to tell), and razor had no names on them at all. Anyhow the razor would not even attempt to shave arm hair. I felt NO drag on the thumb nail test. And yes he had attempted to shave with it. Fortunately he had enough DE experience to know it wasn't right and aborted the attempt. I'm not sure if he got the razor kit at AOS, he did have some unscented AOS Cream and ASB. Said he got the kit there also. I wish I had thought to take a picture of it. I have invited him to join use here. I told him to send the razor to a professional honer. I'm just not ready to attempt to hone someone's razor yet.
I relate this story to ask the question. "I wonder how many other have purchased said kit, or similar kits and attempted to learn to straight shave with it?" Most uneducated shavers would assume that AOS was only selling quality stuff. Then you get home with this thing and FAIL. You just spent a lot of $$ and now you just don't get this whole Wet Shaving thing. Sad really. I wish everyone would research it before they just dove in head first! Hopefully in doing so they would wind up here at TSC and get some great guidance!

Straight Razor Shave #171
Pre Shave: LAB Series Pro LS All-In-One Cleansing Gel
Razor: CBL Gold Dollar Mod
Brush: Envy Shave 24mm White Supreme 2 Band Badger Alluminati Classic - Blue
Soap: MVM Beta 1.0
Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse Alum Block, and Dickson's
After Shave: Don Draper Blue After Shave Lotion
While digging for the Haslinger yesterday, I uncovered the sample of Walt's soap and realized I hadn't used it in a long time either. So it was chosen for today's shave. Walt really did an excellent job with this soap. Great performance!
3½ passes with the CBL Mod and a nice BBS shave, just a tad bit of alum sting, and I did manage to reopen yesterday slice. Nothing major just some red in lather and an OUCH moment.
The Don Draper Blue is also made by ALPA. The scent is more of a "Barber Shop meets Aqua Velva" clean scent. Very nice! Menthol didn't seem quite as intense as the Green, but the cooling effect did last as long. Face feel is excellent.
The descriptions I've found of the Green and Blue aftershave basically say the same thing about both scents. They are very different to me.
Blue
: A traditionally manufactured after shave lotion in the style of US American after shave lotions of the 1950s. It is blue coloured, cools with icecold menthol, with an alluring fragrance going from a powdery sweetness, to a sharp methol mint freshness and finally to woody and spicy notes.
Green:
A traditionally manufactured after shave lotion in the style of US American after shave lotions of the 1930s. It is deep green coloured, mentholated, with an alluring fragrance going from a powdery sweetness, to a sharp methol mint freshness and finally to woody and spicy notes.
Both say:
is made in the tradition of great classic from an era when men were really men and smelled like men.
Finished up with some of the Versace Pour Homme EdT. It plays well with the Don Draper Blue.
