Charlie's Shaves & Shenanigans (not necessarily in that order)

I have some incoming razors from the estate of @Somnos. Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to meet Ed. In reading some of his posts, however, he was truly a kindhearted man with a sweet spirit. He had a deep knowledge of vintage Gillette razors and a knack for finding some real beauties. I hope to enjoy my new razors for years to come. I extend my prayers to his family.

Gillette Tuckaway 1921
Gillette Aristocrat 1934-35
Gillette Sheraton 1938-39
Gillette NEW LC

A big thanks to @woodpusher for organizing this effort on behalf of Ed's family and for his kindness to me.

Those are stunning, Charlie. The OC ‘Crat is worth losing the bet for alone!

I still think Jason should use Tabac for 30 straight shaves in January (would have been required if I had made it a year) as a sign of our friendship

especially because I'd like see him continue winning.
3 for 3 so far...you might want to start rooting for the underdog.
After 15 days, @JTSpartan would probably be hooked on Tabac
Possibly. By day 20 I might be sharing it with my new divorce lawyer too...😇😂

Parker SRX
Gillette Silver Blue (1)
MrEE bead blasted red anodized aluminum handle w/30 mm Maggard's SHD two-band fan knot
Stirling Arkadia
Alt-Innsbruck
Aramis

This was my first open blade shave in a few months. The Parker SRX is my razor of choice, and it just works for me. I shaved more slowly and thoughtfully than usual and ended up with a fantastic two-passer. The 180 gram handle coupled with a dense wall of badger hair is a literal soap destroyer. I loaded the Arkadia more heavily than usual, and I could have loaded even heavier. Loading this monolith with soap like it owes you money and is 30 days late is always a good idea. It's a fun brush to use, but it's not one I select often. I finished up a bottle of Alt-Innsbruck...love this juice...and thankfully I have a couple of unopened bottles in inventory. I used Aramis for the win, and all things considered, it was a great shave.

I enjoyed a relaxing day at home with my Bride. I recently organized and de-cluttered the garage, and I made progress today in the unfinished area of the basement. We also put up the Christmas tree, ran some errands, watched the Louisville Cardinals & then Apollo 13 (love seeing the actors rock all those cool watches), napped, ate some home cookin', and even enjoyed some liquid refreshments. I hope you all had a fantastic day as well.

Grace and Peace.

Lovely shave, Charlie! I have the same handle in anodized gold, but mine is set with a Tuxedo synth. I’ve been slowly but surely moving away from badger. The new synth fibers are amazing compared to what was available yrs ago.

Thanks Jeff! I hope you're doing well.

I agree regarding the synthetic brushes, but I still like using my badger and boar brushes too.

Weber DE
Gillette Silver Blue (1)
JR # 160 Louisville Slugger handle w/Omega 10098 boar knot
Stirling Executive Man
Fine Platinum

I brought out a couple of favorite items, the Weber DE with the bulldog handle and a brush crafted by a friend, Jim Roe, out of bat wood from The Louisville Slugger Museum and an Omega boar knot.

For the past couple of years, I've been using up old aftershave and soap inventory in my quest to the get to my "Top 5" of each. I'm down to two open bottles of aftershave, Fine Platinum and Fine L'Orange Noir. After these two are gone, I'll open up a few favorites and put them into the rotation. I did the same with soaps, and I'm currently rotating between Tabac, Stirling Arkadia, Stirling Executive Man, and MdC Original. Yesterday I ordered a few pucks of Mike's Natural Soaps Hungarian Lavender, and I'll add it to my rotation as well.

I'm currently Black Friday shopping for a spare bottle of Aramis Tobacco Reserve. Colognes last me forever, but this one is a favorite and has been discontinued, so it makes sense to grab another bottle. A big thanks to Frag Daddy @primotenore for turning me on to this juice. You gotta be on your guard with him, as he never misses an OperaTunity to enable.

I was inpsired by @BarberDave to bring out my Weber. It is my favorite modern DE razor. It is medium agressive and is perfectly balanced in hand. I actually had two of them and gifted one to a friend. I wish I had picked up a couple more when they were available for $75 each.

We made a road trip yesterday to have lunch with some long-time friends. We hadn't seen each other for months, so it was great to catch up. The supply chain crisis got real for us when the server said they had no fresh bread rolls. Definitely a first world problem, but it further illustrates our strange times. On a positive note, I didn't need all those extra carbs anyway.

Grace, Peace, and Happy Thanksgiving.

Great post, Charlie.

Great journal entry Charlie! Glad to hear you reconnect med with some friends.

Really cool about the Louisville brush handle! That’s gonna need a picture posted!
Thanks Chris.

A few years ago, my Bride and I toured the Louisville Slugger Museum. All the visitors received a wooden end piece trimmed off of a bat as it came off the lathe. I thought they would make great shaving brush handles :p, so I asked for a few. The museum generously gave me all I wanted and told me to come back if I needed more.

I sent them to my friend, Jim Roe, and he soon turned a few different handles. I picked one, and he finished it and put an Omega 10098 boar knot in it for me. Jim is quite the gentleman and craftsman. He's made hundreds of brush handles for folks around the world. I'm blessed to have a couple of them. Both are shown below. I've also had him turn some handles for several friends.

Happy Thanksgiving, my friend!
