Chad's adventures of shaving, officiating, and life

Here in the Baton Rouge Metro area we have about eight places or so that perform "straight razor" shaves. Two of them I KNOW use actual straight razors...the barber I go to...and the barber my wife goes to...yup that's right...my wife goes to a barber. Another one I am sure uses a shavette...and the AOS place I think uses a shavette and finishes with a multiblade modern system. I have no idea what the others use. One of the places is a Just 4 Him which has the reputation around here of having eye candy...but horrible hair cuts. Another place is pretty new. It's a chain called Roosters...I think.

Razor: Razorock SLOC
Blade: Gillette 7 O'Clock Yellow (2)
Soap/cream: Cherry City Shave Products Oatmeal Stout
Brush: Envy Shave Ute Brush
Aftershave1: T.N. Dickinson's Witch Hazel
Aftershave2: Avon Windjammer

Well I recorded the shave today and it is going to be a must watch. This soap I am at a complete loss! This one lathered like a tier 1 soap! Actually instead of doing my clean up pass I grabbed the pineapple slush lathered them side by side. Hopefully the video is up today. Watch it and let me know what you all think. I am so confused.

Oh this scent is a 5/5 in all counts strength, and likeness! It is good!

Headed into church soon. It is crazy hot here I am praying froa cool down or rain. 85 degrees at midnight is no fun! 105 highs is also no fun! At least humidity is only at 15%.

Have a great day cadre I'll play catch up later too!

Oh...15% humidity...I have no idea what that is. But 85 at midnight is ridiculous! We have 105 heat index here almost everyday now...but actual temps of 105...

With the Cherry City soap...I am wondering about consistency between batches. Not to knock the soap maker at all...but this does happen...even with some of the more established soap makers. I will definitely be watching the vid!

I hate when the heat doesn’t dissipate fully come evening/night. It’s like your trapped in an oven and can’t escape. Miserable!

Looking forward to the video!

Thanks Don. And yup it's just hot!

The video should be up after I return from church. Leaving soon. I am at a loss on this one.

Oh it's horrible. I am dreading my electric bill. The A/C seems to run non stop. And we are just trying to keep it at 76 during the day and 72 at night.

I’m HOT! Went out to eat Friday night and on the way back the temp was 108. We are also getting some hints of thunder boomers but unlike Dave we don’t actually get rain from them. My swamp cooler was no help yesterday but by 6pm my ac had frozen over and was useless too. I suffered through the night and have the swamp running now to blow out the heat but I am hoping to get my ac back on track soon.

As to the cherry city stuff. I tried looking for ingredients but he doesn’t post them. If he uses actually stout beer in the recipe it might be a contributing factor. Beer had several things about it that can improve a soap. The sugars in beer, milks and honey also up the natural Glycerin a bit, which can significantly improve a lather of the soap has a smaller amount to begin with.

I am actually holding back one of my 200th anniversary guiness’ To make a beer batch, I think I can make a fun soap with it. ...guess I could use the dollar store light beer but that would be less fun.

Sounds like you are miserable too. Our AC is an old one and it would be smart for me to buy a new one. But I keep it running.

The ingredients are posted on his Etsy shop fyi.

Different results with the same soap base? Interesting.

It certainly is!

76/72....! Dang. I keep my thermostat between 80-84 during the summer when it is super hot outside. Still way cooler than outside, and you just get used to it. Much cheaper on the electric bill. I run a fan in my room at night if need be.

Now it is miserable.. 110 yesterday, 108 today with 60 degree dew points which is about 50% humidity UGH!!!!! it has been trying to spit a little but no more than a tease. We have lightning though which a like a match to tinder right now. Will be seeing fires soon if we do not get some rain.

I personally could keep the thermostat there but my wife might leave me if I did.

50% humidity in AZ that must be MISERABLE! And yea our state in on fire.

Well used a new soap again today and a video should be up soon. This is a fun soap for sure. I really enjoy this scent and am also really enjoying this brand. I will need to look closer at the other scents and see if any other pique my interest. I got a very nice shave but did get a small nic. After using this soap a few times now I feel comfortable rating this soap at a solid Tier 1 Box 4 soap.

Homefront:

We really relaxed this weekend aside from a trip to Costco that was almost $300! I will be happy when Sadie is out of diapers. I am also very behind on the journals and will be catching up with everyone's journals today. Union dues and testing is ready for football season so I will be taking care of that also this week. It doesn't appear a lot of new rules for this season. Just an emphasis on blindside block and a new signal to use when calling one. But thankfully since I am not a white hat and don't plan on being one anytime soon I don't have to worry about that.

Hope you all have a great day Cadre!

Chad, you got confused....... it's Mountain Rain, not Mountain Meadow. Your YT video is titled that as well.

Just put a Variant on my Amazon wish list. We'll see what my birthday and Christmas bring this year.

It is near heavenly not to have to bother with diapers any more! All three of my boys were spaced out so that I had to wipe butts for about 8 years straight. I’ve pretty much seen it all at this point from am expelled fluids stand point. What’s more, my wife always had a hard time doing it, she claimed “gag” most of the time and passed em to me if I was present.

Glad the soap was a solid win!

They’ve been getting a lot of praise since their QC adjustments a bit back. Still not convinced I need one, but they do look nice!
