Chad's adventures of shaving, officiating, and life

I like Connor’s enthusiasm! I remember camping with my parents and relatives when I was younger, great memories!

Nice shave Chad...I'm one of those who can't get MW to maintain a stable lather to save my life. I'd love to be able to, as I love the scents I have (coconut sandalwood and Barbershop)...I'll have to revisit here shortly.

Our daughter (youngest), gets like that sometimes when she gets a little over excited...she takes things to the n'th degree, which is strange for her as she's normally extremely laid back. Our 10 y.o. is the one who is normally over the top dramatic...but that's a constant...no ebbs and flows there. LOL

In fact so much so I have considered selling my tubs and replacing with sticks.
Why not just take the soaps you have and mash them into a shave stick container? You could reuse some empty deodorant tubes, or just buy empty shave stick containers, and you'd still be better off than selling and rebuying in stick form.

The Avon leather was a nice scent. See past tense... yup I think it lasted 30 min! That has to be the shortest longevity I have ever experienced from Avon. What a shame, it really is a nice scent.
I'm baffled that you don't get any longevity from these aftershaves. Most of them last all day long on me. Even the lime lasts several hours. I guess it proves, you're just a hot head!

I'm with KJ, most Avon scents tend to last a long while. I think the Tai Winds is probably the shortes of them all. K.J. suggested to me that i find the cologne version of whatever i like, it will last longer. I have a couple different Avon colognes, other than Oland they seem to be rather obscure or maybe even unisex. I really don't care for Oland but it seems to be the one i find being sold most.

I can see MW being difficult, I would say I am borderline. I notice the lather being more difficult and often find the lather wants to dissipate. I just drip more water on the puck, swirl and go back to my face and all things come together.

We used to end up packing after the kids would go to bed, it was just too much to work around them and ensure everything made it in (and other stuff never made it in). The kids would be so wound up they wouldn't want to goto sleep...but we were ready for them to BE asleep. The first trailer we had had a radio/tape player in it and had a great sound set up so we put a tape in for them to listen to. The only tape we had at the time was Barney, and we never remembered to pack any other tapes so it was ALWAYS Barney. Damn it if the kids don't remember to this day every single song and story on that tape. ...."rice ball, rice ball, rolly polly rice ball..."

Catching up Chad, good reads and don't think I wont remember the "old man" comment remember I have Vatican ties, LOL

Great shave.

The only MW that I have is the first run of the Coconut Sandalwood, but it is a great performer for me. With all the MW love going around the past few days, I am tempted to pull it out.

Bummer that the Avon Leather didn't last longer.

Mystic Waters is a great soap. I will always have some in my den, and the coconut sandalwood is a great scent!

We are hoping to build a lot of memories as a family.

Have you tried it in stick form? It really makes a difference.

Okay who told KJ he could use logic? Just kidding it is actually a much better idea.

It has only been this one and Everest. The others have had the same longevity I have come to expect. The lime lasted I think 5-6 hours. That is perfect for an aftershave, and the longest lasting Lime I have used.

Very cool! Looks like Connor is excited. Have you guys have a good trip.

Thanks Tom.

I really enjoy the Oland.

Great story on the kids. And probably a good idea to load up while kids are asleep. We were trying to beat a storm yesterday.

Thanks Dave... and I was sticking up for you... telling him not to call you old. Geez you senior citizens are picky.

Razor: Razorock SLOC
Blade: Gillette Nacet (3)
Soap/cream: Proraso Green
Brush: Stirling Finest Fan
Aftershave1: T.N. Dickinson's Witch Hazel
Aftershave2: Proraso Green

Well today was another Proraso shave, and I really have this soap dialed in. I get superb lather every single time and it just delivers an excellent shave.

Not today

Homefront:

Well the trailer is almost all packed, we ran to the store yesterday to get what I thought would be just a few small things. Like utensils, plates, etc. Well Megan started acting like she was decorating a new kitchen and bedrooms. So $180 later we now have what I feel are literally all the comforts of home thrown into that trailer LOL. But a rule has been instituted. NO TV will ever enter the trailer. I want this to be about camping and doing things as a family NOT just driving 3 hours away to watch TV. Really looking forward to our trip tomorrow. I do have to work tomorrow but will be leaving early.

Edit: I forgot to add we also met with the allergist. And he said he is concerned on a few levels. So here is the chain of events. Sadie gets eye infection, drops kill infection at least we thought, he believes it transferred to ear so pediatrician prescribes 10 days of cefdinir since last time on amoxicillin was not good. We did all doses of the antibiotic. On day 13 so 3 days after the cefdinir she was not acting normal again and showing signs of ear infection in same ear. So back to the doctor. Yup infection still there so he prescribed augmentin, which has some penicillin in it I guess. (not a doctor folks) She begins throwing up same way. So then we had to bring in 3 days in a row for a antibiotic shot. Yesterday was follow up to ensure it is gone and figure out course of action and figure out if allergic. Allergist determined she has a penicillin intolerance, basically meaning a dose won't kill her but she should not have it as it wreaks havoc on her system. He is also concerned that the cefdinir did not kill the infection. So it was recommended that we do ear tubes to try and prevent future infections because he would prefer she stay from all antibiotics for awhile. So now we are waiting for the referral to go through and get an appointment with an ENT. This also means poor Sadie will have to undergo a very minor surgery.

Have a good day Cadre.

Catching up Chad and great reads. I'm baffled also about the longevity of Avon Scents. Avon Aftershaves seem to last most of the day on me.

I’ve been there Chad, the trailer becomes the new decoration project AND all your old kitchen/bath stuff goes to the trailer so she can buy new stuff for the house. You might need those 652 kitchen towels and 41 piece kitchen utensil pile while camping at the KOA. Good call on the TV, I always kept mine in the truck...

believe it it or not many “infections” are viral rather than bacterial. No amount of anti-biotic will treat the viral cause. Even if the underlying cause is viral or initiated by allergies like hay fever, a true bacterial infection can follow so it is possible to have or have had both. I wonder what your doctors would say to the question “how do you know she has a bacterial infection not a viral one?” If they do a CBC (complete blood count) with a manual (not machine but actual tech) differential, it is possible to note possible viral vs bacterial. Then again, if she’s been given antibiotics she has reacted to, the count may show evidence of that response not her original issue. The blood test doesn’t always show clear evidence but it often hints at what’s going on. None the less I’ve heard tubes recommend and used with great success. I’ve never had them nor my kids...and none of my docs every even spoke of them. Clearly Sadie’s ear problems aren’t the same as what my kids typically had or my docs would have at least mentioned tubes.

you know me, I am not one that blindly follows the homeopathic route BUT I will say that the teething tablets were effective (I’m thinking it was the belladonna that isn’t really in them). I don’t recall if we ever used or tried anything for ears specifically. I had one mom swear to me that blowing cigarette smoke into the ear cured ear aches....and that’s why you don’t go trying everything you hear.

Nice write-up Chad...glad to hear that you got the trailer loaded for bear! Not taking the television is the way to go...

Sorry to hear about the issues with Sadie...thankfully that is a very routine procedure, and it hopefully will clear up much of the current issues she's having.

Funny you mention that, because I asked that question to the allergist and his response was, "most ear infections are bacterial which is why they most doctors today always recommend doing antibiotics." He also said that based off her short history with antibiotics he wishes they did a simple blood draw and/or would recommend NO antibiotics. He likes to see how the child recovers on there own with an ear infection. He did say however that ear tubes in her situation will probably really help her. We have an appointment on June 1st to meet the ENT and then go from there.

Thanks Josh, and yes I agree. The procedure is quick and pretty simple. The ENT we are using Megan's mom is his nurse and he is highly rated in the State of Utah.

Nice shave Chad, and enjoy the camping..err I should say RV trip. Let that KC stuff take a back burner and concentrate on fun & family. I know you wont take that advice, but at least try not to let it get you down. Have Fun

Dang, that poor girl is going through the ringer! I’m so sorry. I hope things can hold together enough to enjoy the trip and give you a little peace for a a bit. Extra prayers sent your way!

Wow, that was a lot of catching up to do Chad. First, enjoy your camping weekend. Second with respect to Sadie, I hope that you are able to get her to the ENT and get this straightened out. Lastly with respect to KoC, I will first comment regarding Dave's comment on the hypocrisy. I knew a Pastor that was doing couple counseling. They were both members, but she was the only one of the couple that attended regularly. He was a Christmas and Easter guy. When the Pastor inquired to the husband as to why, he talked about all of the hypocrisy of the members, etc. The Pastor replied, "there is always room for one more."

The human condition is broken Chad, has been since the garden. This is just as true inside the Church as it is outside the Church. Good luck in your discernment process regarding running.

Bring on the camping pics!

I will definitely include some!

Thanks Dave. And hey it isn't an RV. It doesn't even have a toilet. The beds are just off the ground LOL. One step above tent camping... that's what I'm calling it. The focus this weekend is the family. Nothing else!

Nice shave.

I hope the ear tubes work for Sadie.

Thanks Doug

Thank you sir. Always appreciate extra prayers.

Walt as always thank you for the comments, and insight. We are confident that we have a good ENT, and will be at the University of Utah Primary Children's center considered one of the best hospitals in the world, and some of the best surgeons. So I feel we are in good hands. My approach on the church and KofC items is, God's will will be done.
