Chad's adventures of shaving, officiating, and life

On the shaving front I am still on the 3017 journey and really enjoying it. Don't really see a reason to go away from it.

Did you just say you finished another soap?

Good to hear Connor is liking the soap, and I hope it helping his dry skin some. I don't know about blueberry, I might still have muffin scent on hand so maybe he would like that.

Oh geez here we go another update. First the shaves, the Soap Commander Vision continues to provide great shaves, but man it LASTS forever. Also it is 6 oz of soap. I do really enjoy the simplicity of the SC formula but I am going to have to seriously consider when and if I go through another puck. This one has maybe 20ish more shaves, or it could be 100 who knows! The last little while I have been re-visiting my Muhle R41 and really enjoying the aggressiveness. 1.5 passes gets me a solid DFS.

Beyond that here's some updates:

Work - It sucks. Not a fan of my new position honestly. But the job market is so competitive in the banking industry here in Utah it's slow going. But I am looking at other opportunities and hoping something sticks.

Summer - We have gone on a few camping trips already, and have like 5 more planned before the kids go back to school so we are busy all the time it seems but we are making memories and it sure beats sitting at home playing video games, i'd much rather have the kids out in nature. The heat though is becoming a real problem. We are in a serious drought and driving past our reservoirs they are at the lowest points I have ever seen them this time of year. We pretty much are required to have a yellow lawn now due to water restrictions. And what does our government do? Oh just keeps developing high rises, and apartment living because an abundance of people in an area that might run out water by August is a great idea!

Kids - My boy is signed up for basketball camp that will happen over the next month twice a week. I am excited to see him play. This was my sport! I played HS and college so seeing my son finally showing interest and wanting to play has me pretty excited. But being a referee I have learned not be that Dad, or force your kids. Sports are supposed to be fun, but honestly I am hopeful he takes to it and really enjoys it. My daughter wants to do dance, so we are trying to find a dance studio.

Officiating - My injury is fully healed, and the GDFL games are going well. I have another game this Saturday and am watching a lot of film to get ready for HS and College seasons.

Knights - Being elected Grand Knight has us super busy but so far in a good way. I am really enjoying and we have a good group of guys this year in office that I am hopeful we can get a lot accomplished in this post-covid world.

Cruise - Well our 10 year anniversary cruise was cancelled last year due to Covid. We re-booked an Alaska cruise for this July but that was cancelled because Canada won't allow us refuel in port. So we took the money, gotta pay those crazy gas prices in the motorhome. But we also booked a trip to go do some Napa Valley wine tours. Flight and hotel are booked just need to book the tours. Should be a fun trip at the end of July.

Anyways there's my update. Hope all is well Cadre!

Well…sorry the new gig hasn’t been so great. That’s a let down I’m sure.

Great family updates though!

Your eyes do not receive you I am reporting on a shave. Taking a break in July from the 3017 as I have some new soaps I want to visit. This is my first use of Heritage Hill coming as recommendation from @dkeester
The performance of this soap was really good for first use, and it's a good formula they are using. Like most modern shave soaps there's a lot out there that our good and a few that are spectacular. This is a good soap. I wish the lime and bergamot shined more but the patchouli is the predominant note to my nose. All in all a good shave

Homefront:

It's hot! Heat wave like much of the western US. Even when camping at 7000 to 8000 feet above sea level it's not up there. We have plans to go to Park City today to tour High West Distillery and it's supposed to be 98 up there! Just crazy honestly! We have a lot of trips coming up this month one to Lava Hot Springs Idaho, then Currant Creek in the Unintas at 8500 feet so hoping maybe it'll be cool, and then a trip to SF which I'm looking forward to hitting up some Napa Valley wine stops.
Football season is right around the corner and I am ready. Injury seems fully healed and I can't wait to get back out there.

Have a great holiday weekend Cadre.

Well today I used the Washington soap from Heritage Hill, seemed fitting as it's the 4th of July. Pay a little homage to a founding father. The soap from this company is good, real good actually. If the scent is to your liking definitely worth picking up. Not crazy about this scent honestly but might like it more in the fall. Patchouli... Man I don't care for that scent.

Nothing crazy to report. Had a very nice date day visiting Wild West Distillery and walking around Park City with my wife. Wild West is going good things with bourbon, and now that some of their own barrels are coming to age I personally think the mountain spring water is complimenting their whiskey nicely. I look forward to seeing how this distillery grows as they hope to eventually not have to source whiskey from others eventually and strictly be proprietary but they are still a few years off from that. Patience is key with whiskey though.

Today we are having a little bbq at my parents house. Just simple burgers and brats and ice cold beer.

Have a good day cadre

Well today I used my third Heritage Hill soap. And guess what another great shave. BUT it had more patchouli. Ugh why the patchouli??? Oh well the shave was good. And if I ever saw a scent I was interested in and it left out patchouli I'd probably give it a go.

Had a fun holiday bbq yesterday. And with today being the paid holiday at work, I went golfing with a brother knight. It was a beautiful day up in the mountains on this course, but it got hot fast! 93 degrees when we got off, and near 100 when we got home. We head out camping on Wednesday. So the one day work week starts tomorrow.

Well on my quest to use the new to me soaps I grabbed the Victory Shaving Angels 12, I have had this one for awhile and man what a scent! The Tobacco, mocha, and mint really combine wonderfully and this is a killer scent! And guess what NO PATCHOULI! Sad that here soon Victory Shaving is closing his doors. I really enjoy his soaps! Shave as great!

Well back to work after the long weekend, and then vacation starts tomorrow. So one day of work! Here we go! But it started with some bad news. A really good friend of mine at work, we have worked together on MANY MANY projects over the last 10+years. Apparently on the 3rd he was admitted into the hospital was vaccinated but tested positive. He passed away later that evening. Honestly just in shock a little bit over it all. Have a good day Cadre, stay safe and healthy.
