Chad's adventures of shaving, officiating, and life

Not making fun of your predicament Chad. This is exactly what happened at my job a long time ago at the factory.
They had a company come in and do a “efficiency study”. Your company has determined they can get by with 50 less people. So as not to get discrimination/wrongful termination suits. They let everyone go. And “re-hire” the ones they want to keep. I didn’t have enough seniority and pull to make the cut (two years). There’s the door. Sucks.

Dude, that blows. Even if "you'll be fine" and will be able to stay if you wish. The stress of the process and waiting for something in writing sure isn't needed for anyone.

Have a look for a new job starting in the next day or so, Chad, after taking today to digest the situation and get over the initial gut-punch. See what's out there before you make any decision, as it costs you nothing but let's you know what's going on in the world.

At the end of the day, you are a person to your direct manager, but often, once you look higher than that, you are a resource, nothing more, nothing less. It's the way the business world has "improved" over the past 20 years and know that it does not reflect upon your value as a person at all.

Bank in the late '90s when I worked at a large Canadian Bank, we used to joke that "if you were able to grow a mustache , you were too old to become a VP." It was an semi-accurate reflection on how they were hiring in MBAs straight from school with zero industry experience to make employee-impacting decisions on efficiency and cost-streamlining improvements. Companies expect full loyalty from their employees but offer little of it in return. It's a big reason why I went as an independent contractor/consultant, as being full-time offered as little job security as a contract, while the latter paid more.

Chad, you’re a man of highly qualified skill and dedication, and that’s not even counting your passion for peanut butter. Seriously though. Praying something pops up for you quickly so you can put that worry aside!

Well the shaves with the Wild West are still going well. (are they closed?) Really enjoying the lather and shave.

As to personal life work sucks I feel like a death row inmate who has lost all his appeal and is just days away.

The two interviews with two different companies last week I feel went well and am hoping to hear more some time this week. Maybe even today for next steps.

Aside from that trying to get on the cadre more if possible. And counting down the days to being able to visit Kyle and Stacy getting families together. Should be a fun trip.

Praying you get good news this week Chad 🙏

A meetup! Nice! Can we expect a two shavers one video followup? 😂

Well it has been a week, and haven't heard from the other two companies I interviewed with. One I felt was a long shot, the other it seemed I was over qualified as that was mentioned during the interview. The external job market sure is interesting I haven't really played this linkedin, indeed, virtual application thing well ever! There's a lot of jobs out there but it seems near impossible to actually talk to someone and get info before they reach out to you. I do have an interview for another internal position next week. I would take that position, but if it doesn't work out I will most likely just take the package on April 6th. I really have no desire to continue working for this VP in the "new org" they are creating. In my personal opinion the whole way this thing has gone has been completely unprofessional. Something will land I am sure, but also looking forward to some time off and just re-evaluating things. But also admittedly I am in an EXTREMELY grumpy mood as of late and just off.

Other than that I maybe have like 2 -3 shaves left on the current soap I am using so get ready for another update to the empty tub thread soon.

So had a really good friend who works in HR recruiting for a large company review my resume and provide feedback. Apparently resumes are sent through an auditing software, and my resume is getting kicked out most likely for using the word "experience", and having two spaces after a period. Apparently both those uses are signs that the applicant is over 40. That's the type of BS that's out there! Ridiculous!

Also was advised not to include the year I graduated from colleges. Because since I graduated from high school with a degree in math it's making me seem older than I really am. So frustrated right now!

That is so stupid. I might understand, if that particular opening was getting hundreds of applicants, maybe it is? Still...I’d think hiring should be a lot more of a personal process. I can’t begin to imagine how many excellent and highly qualified individuals they’ve passed up because of machine screening...
