Chad's adventures of shaving, officiating, and life

Happy Anniversary Chad. Great shave with an incredible soap. SV's 4.3 is downright amazing.

Thanks Eric. Lots of anniversaries going on right now around these parts.

Razor: Parker Variant
Blade: Gillette Nacet (6)
Soap: Proraso Green
Brush: Maggard's Synthetic
Aftershave1: T.N. Dickinson's Witch Hazel
Aftershave2: Proraso Green

Well there is a good thread out there about BBS and when to grade. Since this conversation started a while back on another board I have been paying more attention to it. Because I always graded right after the shave. What I have learned is that after 1 hour, there is a spot where my jawline meets my goatee on either side, that is not staying BBS, so I have been paying more attention there. I am happy to report that I think I nailed the angle today. See, been wetshaving for 4 years straight this way and still learning something new everyday. I got an exceptional shave today form the Italian King Proraso! I am also calling it the Parker Variant isn't just my favorite adjustable it is my second favorite DE in my den right behind the Timeless. And honestly while I love the Rockwell, I can see myself selling it, that is if I wanted to down size. Now I know I do have two soaps for sell in the BST maybe my pricing is off I never know how to price these things lol, I am not downsizing, just trying to focus on soaps and brands that I will keep in my den long term. Anyways the shave today is a BBS+ or dare I say Heel clicking good, or maybe dolphin smooth? And it happened on the 6th shave of a Nacet blade! These blades are AWESOME. I did toss it after today, as I am ready to use a different razor tomorrow.

Yesterday was a BEAUTIFUL day 74 degrees while driving home. So when home we grabbed Connor's bike, put Sadie in the stroller, dog on a leash, and went for a nice family walk through the neighborhood. It was wonderful and just felt good to be outside for awhile. Well last night the winds shifted directions and it is howling still. A storm front is moving in and it will start raining very soon if it hasn't started already. Tonight through tomorrow morning it is expected to switch to snow and bring roughly 3 inches. UGH! Why does mother nature do this to us? An update on the trailer we are so close! Ordered the stuff to update brakes, replace bearings, and replace tires. After that it is literally just putting gear in and then hitting the mountains! We have the itch and are ready to go! I can't wait!!!

Have a good day Cadre!

Awesome shave today Chad! I think you've about sold me on the Variant...just like you did the General. LOL. I haven't tried the Nacet blades yet, but will be picking up a tuck to sample here in the next order, hopefully.

Looking forward to reading about your adventures in camping in the new camper!

Excellent shave Chad. You're making the Parker sound pretty tempting, even though I rarely shave with a DE anymore. I'll have to order a tuck of the Nacet blades as well, and see how they do.

We had the winds from hell Tuesday night and all day/night yesterday but right now things are calm. No word on a storm or precipitation but the winds definitely had a story to tell.

as far as when to judge I guess it’s important to know where you stand befor your leave the den (no more touch-ups once you’ve gone) but if results are markedly different an hour later you have an issue. One thing I found out early on was that if I prep too well I get false stubble in areas along the jaw line. Prepping too well is defined as spending too much time Face lathering or with wet lather on my face. I think I over hydrate my skin which leaves some areas feeling rough when rubbed against the natural grain of my facial leather. Once aftershave has been applied and allowed to dry down for a short period the false stubble disappears.

Facial leather?? There's a guy that MUST use GTB!

Thanks Josh. We are also looking forward to camping LOL. I honestly probably would be fine with just the General and the Variant. But alas I like a variety and I like shiny things.

The Nacet blades are worth looking at.

Interesting take on the the grading

So good you had to say it twice!

Straight Shave #172

Razor: Weck
Blade: Personna(1)
Soap: Fine Santal Absolut
Brush: Fine Stout
Aftershave1: T.N. Dickinson's Witch Hazel
Aftershave2: Fine Santal Absolut

What was I thinking? Grabbing a straight on Friday the 13th. Oh boy! The Weck has been eyeballing me as of late and I knew I wanted to use it soon. So I loaded it up and and whipped up a lather. First pass went well, second pass felt a little dry towards the end of the pass so in my mind I was saying add water idiot, on the third pass I didn't add water to the lather. The third is my ATG and I tore up my neck. No bloodshed just a lot of irritation. The witch hazel was so soothing, but then it was time for the splash! YOWZERS!!!! Here I sit 90 min after the fact and it still stings! I hope I heal enough to have a nice easy shave tomorrow before our dinner date.

Homefront:

Another early day at work, and then I have to go pick up my parent's dog. She is staying with us over the weekend as they are driving to Jackson Hole for their 30th wedding anniversary. Sadie has her 1 year check up today, so the poor girl is going to have some sore legs after her immunizations. Thankfully she doesn't seem to run the fevers like Connor does. She just gets grumpy because she doesn't like sore legs.

Also this evening I am working the tournament and I am so excited to get back on the court again! Doing 4 games! This is AAU style so each game is quick about 45 min, so should be fun. My gear is all set out and I am ready to get out there! So excited. I also registered for a Basketball referee clinic that is in June up at the University of Utah. So even though I am trying to switch gears to football I do have a few basketball items coming up.

Happy Friday Cadre

Great read Chad, sorry to hear about the neck burn, though. Looking forward, though not as much as you I would imagine, to hearing about your experiences on the court this weekend!

That Weck sure looks like it means business! Also looking forward to tales from the court!

Not sure how I got so far behind. Great reads Chad. Glad you got the OK from the doctor to get back on the court. Good luck tonight, can't wait to hear about it.

See what happens when you mess with S.V. It is worse than Murphy. LOL

Sorry about the Ouchie, but I would break some pasta and throw it over your shoulder and apologize to the SV Gods, or it wont get better ROFL

Oh Dave lol.

Catching up Chad!

Great reads, pictures, and shaves, well except for the last one, bummer about the irritation!

Well folks I'll get to my basketball talk out of the way now. I have a haircut in a few hours and I have to shower after a haircut so my shave hasn't happened yet.

So basketball... First I am a little sore in the foot and heel but not anywhere near where I was at a little over 6 weeks ago. It clearly is still healing.

The games went well very competitive! This was a high school AAU tournament so I recognized about 75% of the players due to officiating them in High School. In one of the games the HS rivalaries carried over to the court. Nothing crazy happened. But my partner did throw a technical. Then later in the game we had a player on the bench talking smack to the opposing team on the floor. So another technical was given here. Funny thing is both of these teams aren't very good in the HS setting where there is more structure to the way the game is played. Yesterday they were more concerned about playing like it was street ball.

I only had one interaction with a coach but it went fine. Coach was upset that I called a 10 sec in backcourt on her team. I just explained that while yes the ball was lost per se it never changed possession so the ten second count never reset. She disagreed with me but didn't push it and went about the game.

Sorry nothing more crazy didn't happen... But hey football is right around the corner.

I'm also behind on journals... I'll play catch up later
