CBLindsay's brain droppings

Great set up Chris. You inspired me. I was waffling on which soap to use today. No longer, HeV it is.

So, this weekend i decided to shave with the Henckles Safety Razor. While not technically a straight razor the blade used is essentially a hollow ground straight razor blade cut to fit the width of the safety razor...think GEM with a real straight razor blade. The last time i used this razor the edge was great, this time it was clear i should plan to strop the blade pre-post to ensure continued greatness. Since i have a blade holder doing the required honing and stropping isn't a big deal. A short run on the FeOX balsa and some stropping returned the edge to it's previouse glory and i was rewarded with a great shave on Sunday. For what it's worth, these kind of razors might possible be the best shaving razors EVER. The closeness and longevity can NOT be beat. The only real drag is the need to hone and strop etc.

TODAY's shave was an all SV shave. I may just make this whole week an all SV week, the products are so wonderful. The LDV razor is a beast, with a grand smile and a bellied full hollow 7/8 blade. The soap was a breeze to load and lather (use the SV method) and the aftershave is spot on. I decided to go without any cologne spray and i can still smell the aftershave that was applied at 6am.

wonderful shaves, Chris. I saw a couple of those Henkles SE/GEM style razors with the proprietary blades. They looked interesting enough I almost went in on a set. Heljestrand made a few of them as well.

Great software and hardware selection Chris!

SV soaps, aftershave, and brush I can attest to, the razor, well hopefully one day!

I’m trying to picture that razor in my head and it keeps looking very bloody and dangerous. Great shave my friend.

Nice SV shave Chris, but don't let LdV grow on you it is only 6/8, ROFL

YOURS might be 6/8... but mine’s bigger. Definitely a hefty blade whatever size it is. Hard believe these are made by hand and honed in such a simple manner.

Ive seen a couple of safety razors like that and came close to pulling the trigger only to see the price go beyond my window. They did look pretty darned neat!

Another SV day in the old CBL den. I just love how easy the SV brush and soap are to use. With so much going on between forum admin, personal things and work at the office, my mind wondered a bit. After my first pass WTG i began my second pass but with my mind elsewhere i started in the ATG direction i normally do on my third pass. Today's shave was quite nice despite my momentary lapse of attention. Early in my learning curve i experimented with alternating XTG and ATG and found the results are basically the same in the end, so I wasn't worried about the slip up.

Here’s a little hint at what’s ahead.

Nice read Chris and you have the ultra special one, LOL Talked to Ulrick today and he confirmed your eyes are 7/8, LOL
