CBLindsay's brain droppings

Some very excellent shaves and reads to catch up on, Chris! I am very interested in the performance of the soap using the hemp oil. I know my wife's favorite skin lotion uses it, and that stuff is very moisturizing. I am also looking forward to the test results, as I know that some varieties of hemp oil can lead to a positive test for THC when they are ingested.

I have a soap at home made from hemp oil and it lathers and by all accounts looks like a puck of Col. conks. I dont remember the name though but it is very low tier 2 soap for me.

From my early testing I can confirm the added hemp oil contributes to the post shave conditioning. The added oil also changes the hard to soft oil ratio enough that, try as I might, the finished product is quite soft (bordering on TOBs). An interesting feature of this batch of soap is that is becomes quite solid when exposed to heat but softens once cooled to or below regular room temp. Fortunately, the lather is as easy to make and as luxurious as any other good soap. I will certainly let you know when i have it ready to be distributed.

I am not sure i can choke down much more of the stuff so the test will have to occur soon. My expectation is that this Canadian sourced unrefined oil has as close to zero THC and/or CDB in it as is naturally possible. While I think i can say that about THIS bottle, my basic Googly research suggests other sources may be contaminated enough by plant material to have at least some THC/CDB present, but not enough to matter one way or another.

Additionally, my wife and i have both been using a hemp oil skin product I picked up from Marshalls. I have enjoyed using it as a beard oil while she has used it on her face and body. The skin oil is a refined hemp oil with added lavender and safflower. If ingesting and applying topically via direct application and regular lathering can result in a positive result ...i better not have any government inspections in my future.

If I recall correctly, a RazoRock soap sold last year had hemp oil in it. Of course the conjecture as to whether it would cause a false positive or not was rampant but few made any comment as to whether the soap was worth the effort. From my experience making soaps and my basic understanding of what each oil might contribute to the lather, the hemp oil should be plenty conditioning but not very much different from more "normal" oils such as grapeseed or sunflower and safflower. Perhaps it's benefit is as label dressing. I do know that, if used in too high a concentration it (like grape, safflower and sunflower) theoretically will kill a lather. The fact I have made a soap using about 1.5% added hemp oil that lathers well and stable proves it can be used at that level.

mine was Kell's Original brand. Came in a nice metal tin and was very translucent vegetable based soap

Nice shave and read Chris. The vintage soaps are quality for sure. I still have some of the vintage Williams that you sent me, and might have to break it out again soon.

Just here to say that the Razorock Soap is AMAZING

You have a tortoise? That's so cool. Don't tell Badger Babe, or she might come steal it!
We do indeed have a torti, it is about 6 years old now. Until this spring it was an eating machine and gre quick. Now it is completely off food (other than what we force feed it) and is wasting terribly. No idea what is causing it because the usual potential causes dont seem to be the issue.
My wife and I both worked in the veterinary field many years ago. She worked with an exotic vet which often meant we had various large tortoises (California Desert Tortoises) doing their rehab in our home or garage. One had its leg forcibly removed by a rototiller so we cut a cue ball in half (more or less) and glued it to the bottom of his shell. The cue ball provided the support needed to keep him level and was smooth enough to allow the other 3 legs to propel him around. The unfortunate thing about my wife working with an exotic vet was that she never knew what was going to get loose or be tucked away in that laundry soap bucket. She opened one container thinking it was partially filled with soap and found it filled with 3 Diamond Back rattlers. The guy who put them their almost didn't make it home with his manhood intact, she was MAD.

Sorry it's not doing well. Hopefully the oil treatment helps.

I know a guy in Florida that breeds them. I'd love to have one, but I don't live in the right climate to keep it outside year round.

Straight shave 857

Stirling Boar
Random unknown puck of OLD soap
Genco Henry's X
Avon Tai Winds
Pierre Cardin

Had a very nice shave today. By the second pass I knew I was in for a treat, my face already felt SMOOTH. After the final rinse it was clear I had achieved a glassy smooth BBS. The soap used this morning is one I ended up with when i bought a cup and razor on ebay, no idea what it is because it was unboxed and sitting in the cup. It was/is all yellowed with age and had shrunk to a small dry puck. I bloomed it overnight by floating it in enough water to barely cover it then poured the bloom water off and loaded with a damp boar brush. By loading and lathering in the old spice mug I was able to quickly achieve a rocking lather that only got better with some face time.

The Razor is one I re-honed over the weekend because it disappointed last time I used it. I did a bevel set on the Norton 4k and did all the remaining work on a couple of Coti's ....I love the feel of a good Coti edge! I did manage to video the coticule stage of this re-hone but I was interrupted near the end (creating a portion of video that is NOT allowed to be shown) and the distraction ultimately resulted in a pretty severe injury to my left thumb. Having shave with this edge I am a little less upset about the injury.

I'll work on editing the video so it can be posted.

nice shave with the mystery soap and new coti edge, Chris. Sorry to hear about the honing mishap...

Video? I want to see a pic of the nub...come on...we know you took that finger clean off!

Really, though...I wouldn't wish thaton anyone. Sounds like a pretty darn good shave!

When superglue won’t hold it together you know you’ve gone a bit deep.

And do the video is edited and ready to role ...I think it will end up in the honing section tomorrow.
