CBLindsay's brain droppings

Usually Laurel. I have to not be focusing on the sound when it’s played to hear Yanny; it still sounds totally unnatural when I do hear it.

I strongly suspect there is a Laurel recording and a Yanni recording ...not one recording that people hear differently. I have listened to one linked clip and clearly hear Laurel (with the "L" sound being dragged out a bit) and another clip posted elsewhere that is Yanni clear as day (with NO hint of an "L" sound anywhere in the clip). As for that dress photo (it's a dress right?), I see white or baby blue and gold.

Straight Shave #850

Rubberset 400 w/24mm TGN finest
CBL deluxe croap (made last night)
Radium frame back
CBL Bay Rum / Capt choice CO9T
CUBA Red

I made a batch of soap last night that I am calling "delux croap" (not CRAP) but I could just as well call it the Arizona Tea of CBL soaps because it is made with the finest stuff on earth. It includes Wagyu beef tallow, organic cold pressed Hemp seed oil, shea butter, aloe and allantoin. The formula and process are proven so I have high hopes for this batch once it is well and properly aged. The test lather and shave this morning proved it was quite serviceable.

The blade for this mornings shave was the Radium frameback, which I believe has a damascus steel blade set in a steel frame. The edge on this razor is a wonderful mix of keen and smooth, making for a lovely shave. This razor was a christmas gift from someone I knew from another forum and it came pre-honed.

The AS and frag for was a spicey mix of goodness. When i first came to this hobby several years ago, i brewed a batch of bay rum. The batch evolved a bit over time as i kept adding things to it, until it ended up being what it is now. It is a classic bay rum with some citrus and added Oakmoss. The base includes Vodka, dark rum and glycerine which makes for a very comforting face feel. To add a depth of scent to my own bay rum I splashed on some captains choice CO9T (mine burned more than his) and finished with a few sprays of CUBA red.

New soap sounds interesting; and thanks for mentioning the hemp seed oil, as that is an ingredient that I avoid at all cost.

Never thought about it, but I never considered the alcohol in aftershave could be actual drinking alcohol.

I assume you avoid it because of your job and the risk of testing positive for THC?

I did a fair amount of research on whether hemp has enough THC to cause a positive test result and if so, can it be absorbed at a rate that would actually result in a positive test result. The topic is not easy to "research" because EVERYONE and their dog claims to be an expert and/or have first hand knowledge of someone whose friend knows someone who has a friend that did or did not test positive.

I did find a few useful tidbits though. One is that the US Air Force (and most other branches of military) explicitly prohibit the ingestion of hemp/hemp seed products or supplements in the interest of maintaining combat readiness. At one point (in 2004) the USAF issued a clarification that topical use of lotions and soaps was not intended to be prohibited, only those products that could be ingested were prohibited. Since the issue is whether hemp products will yield a positive THC test result (not really whether hemp really impacted combat readiness) the assumption would be the USAF doesn't/didn't believe hemp lotions and soaps will result in a positive result. unfortunately I have not been able to find a more recent comment on the use of topical lotions and soaps from the USAF but i did find more recent "reminders" to not consume hemp products.

Another bit of useful information is that "hemp" contains less than 0.3% THC and that THC (and most other drugs) don't readily absorb through the skin. The problem with these two "FACTS" is that they only matter when they are indeed true. True, Hemp by definition contains less than 0.3% THC...if it contains more than 0.3% THC then it can't be called hemp. And True, without the help of other substances the lipid soluble THC doesn't easily pass through the skin ...but a little carrier oil or some other benign substance can pave the way for easier absorption. Despite these two truisms it is possible the product being sold or labeled as HEMP has a higher THC content and that the skin care product is made with substances that help speed the absorption of the THC that is present. The most obvious question i had i was unable to find an answer to "is hemp oil a suitable carrier oil for delivering THC and/or CBD through the skin?"

I am pretty confident using a shaving soap made with 1% added hemp oil is not going to produce a positive result. Then again, I am not going to get court martialed or sent to jail if I am wrong. ...but my friend's sister knows a guy who saw on a seinfeld episode that hemp will make you sterile, especially if you wear socks made with it.

Anyway, I will also be making a batch with Wagyu beef tallow that only has grapeseed, shea butter and sunflower oils as the superfat. I like the way the hemp oil feels (particularly as a beard oil) but i don't think it is adding anything the sunflower oil doesn't add.

Never thought about it, but I never considered the alcohol in aftershave could be actual drinking alcohol.
Remember that drunk on the Andy Griffith show was always being told to lay off the aftershave. the problem i have with vodka and run is that they are typically only 40% alcohol and that isn't enough to give me the burn I am after. In fact, if you only used vodka with added oils and glycerin it would feel quite a lot like water. I ended up adding some 90% rubbing alcohol to the batch.

Thanks, CBL. Yes, you assumed correctly. I know that the chances are practically nil, but I just don't take a chance. I also don't eat anything that has poppyseeds. Just not worth the risk for me. And before anyone mentions it, yes, I will hastily depart an area if there is any wacky weed smoke detectable.

A long while back I worked in the local emergency room when some of our younger medics brought in a few guys that had partaken of the wacky weed that happened to be laced with something bad. Those two medics spent enough time in that house that they obtained a contact high like none I 've seen. To avoid the troubles that a positive test would have produced we had to treat their exposure like a work-place accident and place them on leave until such time as they tested negative.

This indeed sounds like a very interesting soap. You will have to let us know how it works out.

Strange put true. My mom makes a type of cookie that has a dollop of poppy seed filling in the middle and a holiday bread that is filled with poppy seed filling. I love the stuff. When I was younger, as a treat from time to time I'd buy a can of poppy seed filling and just eat it straight. I wasn't putting two and two together and had just had half a can one day and the next morning I needed to go for a urine test for a new job. No positive results there. So I would say 100% one muffin or so isn't going to show anything.

Great read, information, and shave Chris!

So it's safe to say then, that this soap won't give you the munchies?

there are several foods that when consumed in high enough amount can induce one effect or another. Apparently nutmeg, when consumed in a “more than normal” but not excessive amount is capable of producing intense hallucinations.
Strawberries contain enough estrogen like compounds that allowing sheep to graze a strawberry field can totally mess with their estrus.
Warm weather grasses in the sorghum family produce a toxin when they are exposed to,freezing temps. That toxin is prusic Acid...also known as hydrogen cyanide. Yup, munching on sorghum after a frost would be like being gassed with cyanide.

Straight Shave 851

Rubberset 600 TGN Finest
Tabula Rosa "Steampunk"
Feather SS Proguard blade x5?
Steampunk post shave gel

I had planned to do a recording of a feather ss shave but I switched the memory on the camera to a smaller SD card and it turned out to be too small to catch the last couple minutes. I'll work on that later, might be helpful to others to see a little different technique.

I grabbed the Tabula Rosa from the drawer last night, just had a hankerin for that intoxicating scent. The performance of this soap really is quite stellar, it provides a fantastic slickness and incredible residual slickness. My only objection to this soap is the price, it is very much like a tub of whipped cream cheese. You grab the tub and it looks full but feels empty. I have used this soap maybe a dozen times (if that) and it looks like I have made a good dent in the tub...just feels expensive. At $30 a tub I really want to feel like it will last forever.

The proguard blade didn't disappoint, smooth as ever and plenty efficient. The shave was a pretty simple 3 passer with a tiny bit of touch up just to get that uberBBS feel. I decided to apply a bit of my homemade post shave salve before adding the TR post shave gel, it was probably overkill but my face feels pretty good.

I feel the same as you about Tabula Rosa, it goes to quick for how much it is. I love the scents, but I don't find the performance all that great .
