Brew's Foul Concoction

It is good to be home. A week of soul-less, but otherwise perfect Feather shaves. Nothing to write home about. Hence the radio silence. The trip was to bring my elderly mother down to Florida for a week to see her even older sister and BIL. It was a bittersweet visit. I traveled for 13 straight hours yesterday, leaving the Keys at 7 am and pulling into my snow-covered driveway at 8 pm. No shave, so I'll be real glad to shave shortly. It's good to be home.

I've got a couple more days of being between jobs. My new/third career begins on Monday.

Hope TSC has been well.

That's a killer pair of boots, Larry. Your footwear is always on point.

What a whirl-wind week. I started the new career/job on Monday. First two days were an orientation down in Virginia. I took the Feather with me and had some great shaves. Every time I use that razor, I walk away from the mirror wondering why I use anything else. I certainly can't keep a traditional razor that sharp, and as long as I use zero pressure, just removing lather rather than trying to shave hair, the shaves are near perfect with zero irritation. A great, easy to maintain razor, imo.

I got all new tools and work toys to play with, so when I got home I had to set up my home office. Getting their new cell phone to work properly with all of their new applications and equipment was a nightmare yesterday. The shave this morning with my little Bengall in turtle shoes went a long way towards making that mess a distant memory. Nice how a good shave can do that. Today I'm going to try and knock out some admin stuff that will make my week a whole lot easier. This new position is going to upend a bunch of personal stuff for me, do to the nature of the firm and my position. But once I get through it all and make the necessary changes, I'm sure this will be a great place for me. I'm very optimistic, despite the foot of snow that fell yesterday.

Hope TSC has a great weekend.

I hope this job ends up being the perfect match for you.

On the shave, would love a picture of your turtle.

Sounds like the new job is breathing a little excitement into your old routine, like you said...nothing changes if nothing changes. About the shaves with the feather, I hear you. I have been giving a Feather SS clone made for me by a Chinese factory a good shake down these past few weeks and the shaves have been a real pleasure. I have only used a schick proline and now a Kai captain in it but, as you say, keeping a light hand and a slick lather ensures nothing but a great shave. It sure makes you aware of the blades you have been using that you thought were still sharp enough.

After you posted a photo of TOG and her Turtle shoes I was able to recognize that I DO have at least 2 razors with turtle scales. I had assumed they were horn that had become dried and hazy but upon comparing to TOG I’m guessing a good polishing would reveal their turtle nature. Add that to my to-do list.

I'm not sure which photo you refer to Chris, but the Old Gal is and old 6/8s Bengall in painted horn. When I bought it, I thought it was tortoise. Here she is:

The razor I used yesterday (and will again today) is also a Bengall, but is barely 5/8s. It was rescaled by Alfredo in some tortoise scales I salvaged from an old Keen Kutter razor that was originally manufactured with real tortoise scales (there's a secret model number). It was their top of the line model.

I have two other Bengalls. They're all super hollow razors and great shavers. Even I can keep them sharp.
