Brew's Foul Concoction

Some really nice entries as of late Larry! And man those are some fine boots! Congrats on the new job too!

I'm not sure which photo you refer to Chris, but the Old Gal is and old 6/8s Bengall in painted horn. When I bought it, I thought it was tortoise. Here she is:

The razor I used yesterday (and will again today) is also a Bengall, but is barely 5/8s. It was rescaled by Alfredo in some tortoise scales I salvaged from an old Keen Kutter razor that was originally manufactured with real tortoise scales (there's a secret model number). It was their top of the line model.

I have two other Bengalls. They're all super hollow razors and great shavers. Even I can keep them sharp.
I started questioning my sanity last night when I saw the Bengal photo because it looked nothing like the Old Gal and my newly proclaimed “tortoise”...alas, what I have IS still horn. At least I can claim to have identified it correctly, even if I wasn’t willing to own my call.

I was disappointed to learn that TOG was horn, until I shaved with it and a new edge from Alfredo. It was instantly my favorite, and still is. I'll use it tomorrow, its rightful day.

Kinda lost energy for this journal. Work has upended a whole bunch more than just a new career and job. A whole bunch of personal stuff has had to change too, which has been a real pain. Another week or so, and I'll have that all squared away and will be feeling much better about all of this. "Unsettled" is the word I'd use for now.

Years ago my dad caught a big bonefish and had it mounted. It's now on my home office wall, watching me and my head spin.

I thought Brian Brown would tell me I'm nuts when I asked him if he could do this.

But he didn't hesitate for a second.

I hope you’re starting off every email with “I’m new here”. Hope to hear back from you in a month or two that things have settled down and you’re enjoying what you do.

12k touch up to one of the #13 Filis last night. The edge looked a little spotty after stropping, so I figured a few swipes on the finishing stone would clean it up. Looks great, can't wait to shave!
Sure looked good in today’s pic! Still has the filigree work...very nice!

Thanks Chris. That's an older pic, though. I love the size of the the #13s. And like all Filis, they're real easy to keep sharp. I think that's just because they're thin and straight, but even I can keep one comfortably sharp.

Just ordered hair clippers. Looks like it will be a while before a trip to the barber will be safe. Saw a piece on dangerous jobs. Barber was near the top.

Best to you and yours.

Huh, been cutting my hair for a few years now. Hadn't considered I was helping to stop the spread of diseases. Barbering means close encounters with people's heads/faces, so it makes sense they are at risk for diseases that spread via respiratory means. Stay safe, Larry.
