Bourbon Country Shave Journal - Dave in KY

Dang, sorry about the irritation, whatever it may have been from.

I’ve not tried Mohammed’s duck renderings, but the beef tallow ones are elite for me. Hope the next outing is better!

....I understand they (WCS) have arranged to have another artisan make soaps for them...great move on their part....
That's the understatement of the year thus far! It's because of who makes their soaps that I haven't/won't try it.

Razor: Rockwell 6s Plate 5
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (4)

Brush: Paladin 26 mm Butterscotch Moe

Soap: Pdp 63

Aftershave 1: Humphrey's Alcoholado Maravilla
Aftershave 2: Avon Spicy

EdT: Pdp 63

So today as much as I want to try another GD soap scent or the Earl Grey Gelato again, I chose a known non-irritating soap that smells great to wait for more face healing from the torture blade. Had an awesome shave and feel great. Just enough pain on stroking my face against the grain to lead me to a 90% belief yesterday was leftover blade damage. I'm left wondering why I am so easily sucked into these challenges against my better judgement. Chad we need a "Cadre Shirt" with "Survived the Graham Field Blade Challenge" in the Zazzle store !!!

Hopefully be able to try the Gelato tomorrow and see how it feels. If a no go for me, it can be Pif'd
Have 2 more GD soaps inbound and a Stirling order with Brush and Bonaparte Soap and Splash for Monday or Tuesday.

Have a Great Weekend Cadre !!!

I'm just now getting to your journal again Dave...and it appears that the GF is a stinker of a blade. I guess I too have been recruited into this challenge. Anyway...sounds like some soaps are giving you some problems. Hope you can figure it out because those are some really good soaps you are trying!

Yay, Don's in town!! Miss ya man. Looking forward to the video. Soap may not be the issue. May be leftover effects from the blade...........yes, it's THAT bad.

Bummer you had to wait to try out another new soap, but it sounds like the soap wasn’t the culprit so that’s cool. I had a similar situation a while ago with a rough shave and then trying a KShave Worx soap. It took about 3 or 4 days before everything calmed down from the bad shave, and luckily the soap had nothing to do with issue.

Glad the shave today was much more enjoyable!
Thanks Chris

That's what I'm hoping
That butterscotch Paladin is an awesome looking brush!
Thanks Chris

Ohhhhh PdP 63, man that’s a great scent. I also think that blade did a number on you. Hope you heal up soon.

Razor: Timeless .68 OC
Blade: Gillette Rubie (8)

Brush: Paladin 26 mm Lemon Drop Falstaff

Soap: Grooming Dept. Elan

Aftershave 1: Thayers Cucumber
Aftershave 2: Aqua Velva

So I think I still have lingering damage from the Graham Field blade but it is well enough to try another GD soap and I couldn't resist trying Elan to see if I had any reaction skinwise. NO issues. What a nice fresh pleasant and reasonably strong scent without being overpowering. Listed on their site as Scent Notes: Citrus, Juniper Berry, Cypress, Cardamom and Woody Accord. I am a face latherer but read how most bowl lather to get all the water this thing needs in it so I did a load off the tub and proceeded to bowl lather and with a little time adding water slowly got a gorgeous lather consistency and an awesome shave. You can really feel the good skin nourishing ingredients in the creaminess of the lather. Great slickness too. Enough lather left for a nice facial treatment after the shave as well. Good lather stability throughout the shave and after for the facial. Will reserve final thoughts on the soap until I've had more shaves with it and tried other scents of which I'll have 5 total including the sample he sent. It will be several different bases and I want to try face lathering it as well. Pics of lather pre and post shave from a 15 second load off the tub.

Glad I have 1 without irritation at least. I may try the Earl Grey Gelato tomorrow again to see about it again now that I'm healed enough to know. Have a swell day Cadre !!

Glad the shave was much to your liking! Elan definitely sounds like a winner in the scent category!
